I was listening to an album of 70's ballads and I noticed that in between the love songs I noticed that some of the ballads of the 70's were depressing and I cannot figure it out? For example I found Robert John's song Sad Eyes and if you listen to the lyrics Sad Eyes is about a guy's crush leaving him and I cannot figure out how in the world Sad Eyes became a hit? Another song I found was Just When I Needed You Most by Randy Vanwarmer and that too is a depressing song about a guy's crush saying goodbye and why it was a hit I cannot understand. Was it because ballads were huge hits in the 70's and they came up with a theme to fit the songs? Another song that was a hit for John Denver was I'm Sorry which was also a breakup depressing song. I was shocked that the 70's had songs like this and i'm glad we don't see many of these songs in music today
