In this charming fraternity ep, Wally concocts a scheme to get their frat house painted. He invents the “tradition” of The Blue Moose and Rick’s frat challenges the Betas: whichever frat ends up with the blue moose gets their house painted.

Ozzie goofs up a couple of times and almost loses it for Rick’s frat but good ‘ol smart cookie Harriet saves the day.

Fun revisiting the ep. A true charmer and the version I saw on YT had the original commercials too! Whatta deal as my Shout! copy didn’t

Rating from 0-5: 3.5

I truly love the eps where the Frat brothers, outside of caricature Wally, are prominent. And of course Harriet is always wonderful, IMO she and Ricky were the real actors in the family. Ozzie, not surprisingly, bumbles things and while giving a passable performance, is nowhere in the same league as Harriet or Ricky. God I wished she had done some movies after the 30s. Such a wry wit and perfect timing! But Ozzie does compensate greatly behind the scenes with stellar production and business acumen—so his less-than-stellar acting is easily forgiven.

Points off for being too predictable (to an avid viewer) — Wally coming up with another”great” scheme. Points on for the ever-great Harriet, Rick, his frat…and the Betas.

One episode I remember liking was one where the brothers found out about a tunnel to one of the sororities. If anyone knows the title for that one, I'll re-watch it.

Other faves are Wally Cox as a professor renting a room, Rick trying to get a record on a cot, and something about the dads and a backyard pool. Also varying snafus involving the dean which I don't recall specifics on.

I'd re-watch any of those if I knew the titles.

Oh, editing to add--will view The Blue Moose.

Secret Passage, mentioned by stevea: Season 14, ep 7 Oct. 1965

Blue Moose: Season 12, ep 6 Oct. 1963

The episode where Ricky has to stay in bed for a week: Bedtime Story Season 13, ep 9 Nov. 1964 (I think I have that on DVD)

The ep with the fathers and the pool is Father’s Night At The Fraternity.

The one with Wally Cox is The Fraternity Rents A Room

Both great eps esp. the second!

I'd give The Blue Moose a 4.5 out 5. It's an absolutely wonderful episode. The only reason for not giving it a 5 is the song was obviously cut at the end.

I can't believe I hadn't seen this one, since I'm more of a fan of the later episodes. It had a small prologue--I don't know if that's routinely cut, or I just hadn't seen one before (THAT'S even funny!). It's an episode I've seen on episode lists for years, thought I'd seen, but hadn't. Ozzie blew it, and Harriet--well, watch it!

I'm anxious to see what others think, so to make it easy, here's the link:

Do you happen to know if the Shout! version has the Rick song?
