So, what does the finale mean?

That everything that has happened from the Season 2 episode "Happy Birthday" onward has been us, the audience, watching Roseanne Conner's writing? That she really did write manuscripts in that basement office?

(Or have we been watching Roseanne Barr's writing?)

Also, during the episode, Roseanne Conner (or Barr) said that she took things from her life, and if she didn't like them, changed them for her writing.

And what does this mean, that in reality, Becky and David were dating, but that she changed it to Becky and Mark?

What does the "reality" mean? Is the reality referring to Goranson/Chalke and Galecki? Were they dating in real life?

Or is it referring to the characters Becky and David?

What part is the "reality", and what part was her manuscript?

I kind of understand the part where Roseanne's sister was gay in real life, and for the manuscript, she changed it to her Mom. But then that's Roseanne Barr, not Roseanne Conner.

So I'm trying to understand if this episode had the monologue from Conner's point of view, or from Barr's.

And what does everyone think of the finale?

Technically it was ALL Roseanne's writing, even season 1.... it just became more outlandish in the later 2 seasons.

But as reveled in the Conners/Roseanne reboot, it was a story within a story. What we were seeing for the first 8 seasons was true, and Roseanne was writing that she was WRITING a story...confusing I know lol

Thanks. That is confusing, but I kind of get it now.

How does this apply to how she said in "reality" that Becky and David were dating, and in her story, she changed it to Becky and Mark?

Is the story within a story how she changed it to Becky and Mark?

None of that matters and history was re-written in The Conners because Becky was married to Mark, not David and Darlene did marry David, not Mark and had two kids with David.

The lottery and Roseanne's writings were all wiped out and inconsistencies like Jackie never marrying or having a child came about. Jerry has also been wiped out in The Conners.

Yeah that's how I took it after seeing the WHOLE thing together was that Roseanne added the bit about the couples switched as part of the story within the story. It could be that Roseanne wanted to see them the other way around.... in ways I always thought David and NEW Becky would have been better together. David was sensitive, and it seems new Becky would have related more to him.

Yeah, I agree.

Plus NEW Becky had a different acting style. She smiled more, and barely had any fights with Darlene.

OLD Becky and Darlene were great at fighting and insulting.

I ignore the final season, including the finale. It's too inconsistent with the existing story. The Conners wisely ditched that final season... But then weirdly ditched Andy and Jerry as well.

It's almost as if the continuity changed when new Becky took over... I ALMOST get the impression Darlene is supposed to be the older sister and Becky the younger.... Darlene even made some reference, in the finale, to how when Becky was born she had such a "clueless look" and like "Hmm, she still looks like that!" That sounds like something an older sis would say about her younger sis
