Before there was ALL IN THE FAMILY, there were TWO pilots that were rejected by ABC and NBC. The third time was the charm as CBS commissioned a THIRD pilot with Sally Struthers as Gloria.

In this rare interview clip, actress Candice Azzara relates how she was cast in the SECOND pilot for the show, originally titled "Those Were The Days".

It would have been nice seeing that one!

Its sad it didnt last very long but I think if it still was going on in the 80s they might have started having problems :(

Thanks! Seeing those clips is very interesting. It's funny that this lady signed up for a pilot -- not knowing what a pilot was -- for a series she didn't want to do. :lol:

I'm surprise you like Mike over Gloria. I can handle Gloria's whininess. Mike's hypocrisy, arrogance, and treatment towards Archie ruins the show. As if the game episode wasn't bad enough, this last episode I watched with Mike's friend from college has him acting like he's smarter than Gloria. He keeps sending her to the kitchen to shut her up when she's trying to interact with his friend. Mike is an ass. He's almost passing Ross from Friends on my list of worst TV characters.

Everyone on the show had funny moments to me besides Gloria. I am watching her spinoff now and it doesn't even feel like its her show:lol: She comes off as a supporting character.

This ls one of my favorite Sally Struthers moments, which pretty much would have to be all from Season 1. From the series premiere, when Archie comments on the 'show' she's putting on...! (Jan. 12, 1971)

I have that on an official CBS VIDEO LIBRARY tape and its goregous!!

I had one a few years ago and it looked aweful...... Looked like it was behind a wall,looked flat and digital like...

I dont recall any All in the family 50th anniversary celebrations this year in January. Or maybe it was and I missed it

The title says that this is the 'original' Gloria but in the clip she says that there was a pilot with a different Gloria before her so obviously this is not the original Gloria.

Unless she said Lear also mention he offered it to NBC, my understanding it was only offered to ABC only before CBS picked it up.
