no, Edith isn't killed by that she was able to escape unharmed. She didn't die until the beginnining of the second season of archie bunker's place, she died from a stroke.

Edith was raped in the episode, "Edith's 50th Birthday", but she never died in it. Today, this episode is one of the most constroversal, and in fact one of the least popular of the series, because of the whole plot, people didn't want her to get raped. Death threats went to the man who played the rapist.

Edied died on a spin-off of AITF, called "Archie Bunker's Place". She died of a stroke in her sleep one evening, and the whole entire episode was heartbreaking. Just seeing Archie sitting on her bedside, with her dead, was horrible.

Edith was NOT raped in "Edith's 50th Birthday". She was able to escape from the rapist by pushing a hot cake pan into his face and shoving him out the door before he was actually able to do anything physical to her.

I really want to see this episode. I want it added to my collection. I want see how powerful it actualy is, everyone says it is.
It pisses me off how N@N is like that.
I don't know if I could handle the episode where she dies though. It takes alot for Archie to cry, and seeing him do so next to Edith's coffin or grave or wherever would be just too much.

And THAT seems to be the reason why ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE is seldom seen in reruns

You never see Edith dead in bed or Archie at the graveside or at her coffin. In fact little mention is made of her death until the Archie Alone Part 1 & 2 in season 2. What you see is Archie sitting on the bed after all her belongings have finally been removed and he sees one of her slippers. Then he cries. He won an Emmy for this performance.
