View Full Version : Avatars and Why People Choose What They Do

I mostly don't do any. And some groups I've been a member don't even have this function. I see Happy good feeling avatars, I've seen some nasty pretty ugly ones, and many who do none. I didn't even realize I could do one without a smartphone but I found I could here, so looked at the at the choices, I chose a slice of pizza. I like pizza. Nothing else really fit me.

On another group and the members are pretty horrid and that's a mild word, I finally added a Avatar and it's a basket of grapes (grape seed extract)... they have attacked my alternative medicine info since I joined and grape seed ex so when I found the basket of grapes, I thought how appropriate. Has to anger them more and I don't care. They have been so mean to me.

Anyway, want to share. I know here a lot of Sitcoms.

This site seems to have some rather draconian limits as to what file size is permitted (both in terms of dimensions as well as kilobytes) for avatars, and a peculiar limitation that you can only employ a transparent background IF your file size is smaller than the threshold permitted. Odd in that I've never encountered that restriction anywhere else, you can go over the limit, but doing so disables transparency and suddenly you have this stark white aura around you.

SO, I've got a folder full of avatars that I've been collecting for 25+ years, and whenever I get a notion to change I just start uploading at random until I finally find one that fits with the requirements.

I'd prefer animated gifs, but with the file size restriction being as low as it is, I can't really find one that suits my preferences and jumps through the hoopes at the same time.

Here's what I'd probably be using right now, except for the limitations:

Well, I'm happy to be on a desk top and research info and talk to people. I could care less about all the bells and whistles....just started using some emojies which I'm having some fun with....the other stuff, don't need any of it. I know it's the huge generation gap with the tech world, I guess, and then there are those who love gadgets.

I like your Ernest T Bass one. He's one of my favorite characters from The Andy Griffith Show.

Sometimes I use gifs which I generally have to resize for my Avatars. And sometimes I just use small pictures of some of my favorite shows. Depends on my mood I guess.

Thanks! Where I worked the last few years before retiring, we restored antiques. Our "finish guy" was also a collector of camping lanterns

He always kept one hanging from a post near his work area, and had an empty 5 gal metal can just like the one in the video, that he kept near by.

He was fond of going through the routine, anytime we hired someone new, to see their reaction. It's surprising how many people know exactly what he is emulating.

My avatar is currently Janine Turner, and I picked it because the color (purple) goes nice with the forum rank.

It's not me. Janine Turner was in Northern Exposure and Strong Medicine. She's been in movies as well.

I always use Bugs Bunny avatars...Bugs Bunny is my favorite cartoon character. I wanted to use one with Bugs and Pepe le Pew because Pepe is a victim of cancel-culture....

I finally left a group where the members were as gross as their avatars. I had a pail of grapes as mine as it was a choice. There are kind nice avatars and then some, omg, so angry and I'm thinking of one on this forum. Tells a lot about a person.

Hey Gentle man, what is your reply above supposed to mean, what does it have to do with avatars?
