Who here likes Dokken??

I just got the first album (The original 1981 release -- Not that 1983 re-issue that doesnt sound as good (Not as warm))

It was HARD finding this album, mostly the 1983 re-issue or NEW releases were on ebay (180Gram digitally sourced))

Hard finding the original analogue release!!

I had tooth and Nail (1984) and I didnt like it at all...... The first album kicks all!!!!!

Anyone else think thier early stuff is better? (Most groups get worse over the years) !!

I don't know about Dokken but here is something awesome to listen to, melodic hard rock doesn't get better than this. The songwriting is amazing, these guys really had their stuff together when they made this album. Sounds like a mix of AC/DC, Bad Company, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. :)

I listened to a lot of popular stuff back in the 80s so I did remember Dokken vaguely. Thanks for the tip, I'll see what I can find as far as specific stuff I liked.

I find I only like thier first album...... I had the 2nd (Tooth and Nail) but I didnt really care for it..... I havent heard thier EP (The one before thier first) It is probably good also.....

Even if the 1983 one sounded as warm as the original 1981 release,it wouldnt be as good for these 2 reasons:

1) 'We're illegial' being replaced with 'LIVE TO ROCK' (Which is crap compared to the first song)

2) 'PARIS' being replaced with 'WHOS BURNING PARIS' (Live) which is not as good as the studio version of this song!!

When I set out to get this album,I wanted to make sure I got the original 1981 release!!

Its hard to find it....... There is a french 1982 copy on ebay now but thats not the oriiginal like the one I have... (Its got the same songs though)

I'm a Dokken fan. I had a cassette and a CD of them, I still have the CD but the cassette bit the dust.

We were talking about Dokken at work a few weeks ago, looking up songs on our phones. I remember quite a few songs by them from the 80's. One of my favorites was the song from their first album, "Breaking the Chains". It would be totally lame if we couldn't find the original album that wasn't remastered. Record companies seem to think that they're "improving" it by remastering it, when it just over-produces the sound and making it sound dry.

I did see them on Labor Day weekend at the Universal Ampitheater opening for Alice Cooper in 1997.

Here is the link to the video for "Breaking the Chains". Made back in 1983 in the early days of MTV, it doesn't get more 80's than this:

That's not always true, sometimes the remaster is better than the original recording.

However, the majority of current music being made today tends to be over-produced and sounds like garbage.
