Hi. I'm happy to find this message board and hope I can uncover a quote I'd like to reference from an old episode of AITF.
The episode was aired in 1975 under the title of 'THE VERY MOVING DAY'. In this episode (if my memory is correct), Gloria is worried about telling Mike that she is pregant because she knows he is against bringing a child into a world with so many problems. Neighbor Irene Lorenzo shares a quote or a letter with Gloria, which addresses the value of every human life to making the world a better place. Can anyone help me out with this quote? Thanks so much. It feels appropriate to recollect this sentiment, as we deal with the aftermath of the suicide attacks on the World Trade Center, etc. two days ago and consider how we can bring children into the world...

Thanks.
Ellen

I don't remember the quote, but it was written by Allstair Cooke. Edith thought it was beautiful; Archie wondered who cares about the opinions of Alice the Cook.

In the best of times our days are numbered anyway
and so it would be a crime against nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly
that it put off enjoying those things for which we were designed in the first place - the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to hit a ball and to bounce a baby.

Thank you! I think this is exactly the quote I was trying to remember. Can anyone confirm that it was, indeed, Alistair Cooke (a.k.a. 'Alice, the Cook')? Any idea what it was originally taken from? This is a terrific resource...I appreciate your help so much...and what a great sentiment.

Definitly, Allistair Cooke (per the show). No idea where came from originally.
