View Full Version : Do you think The Oscars have a curse on them?

Every year that The Oscars have appeared I seem to think that they have a curse put on them and starting with this year's Oscars really proves that there has been a curse put on The Oscars and I have never been able to figure it out. Take for instance the Best Animated Picture Oscar SHOULD'VE gone to Onward rather than Soul because although Soul is really cool Onward should've gotten an Oscar instead and ever since Beauty And The Beast lost the Oscar for Best Picture to Silence Of The Lambs in 1991 I think this was the start of Disney's Oscar curse. Another thing I can't figure out is why was Over The Moon nominated for an Oscar when the movie is a Netflix exclusive in the first place? A second thing that shocked me about the Oscars and I hope this doesn't become a habit for The Oscars in the future is why are they giving Oscars to dead actors because the awards are meant for actors/actresses that are still alive. Why they bothered to include Chadwick Boseman in this year's Oscars is beyond me and having Chadwick Boseman lose an award to Anthony Hopkins is a surprise because Chadwick passed away just last year and this shocker is how they treat him now? If The Oscars would just improve itself then maybe the curse will go away

Hi, Bestie! I think the Oscar curse is the idiots that vote on who gets the Oscar base their vote on everything but talent. Take Obama, he got an Oscar just because he is Obama.
They wanted to give Chadwick an Oscar because he is dead. I am surprised that did not happen. Yes, Onward was a better movie than Soul, but Soul got the Oscar. I will give you three guesses why.
I voted for giving Oscars to living actors because I think you should only give an Oscar to someone who can make an acceptance speech.
Lastly, when was the last time the most popular movie, I mean the one that made the most money, got Best Picture Oscar?
The Oscars have gone the way that most awards have gone. They have little to do with talent and accomplishment and everything to do with virtue signaling and political correctness. The worst offenders are any entities awards given to Obama.

Uh, I'm going to have to agree. I think I read the Oscars have a curse because Beauty and the Beast lost Best Picture to The Silence of the Lambs, and because Chadwick Boseman lost a posthumous Oscar. I would say "make it make sense" but I don't think that's possible.

So if this year's Oscars proves that there is a curse, but you still "have never been able to figure it out", then what good is the "proof"?

Can't make sense out of nonsense.

Do I think the Oscars are cursed?

No

But I think the general public has developed apathy towards the Academy Awards.

I wouldn't be surprised if the televised ceremony of the Oscars is canceled in the very near future.

I wouldn't be surprised if the televised ceremony of the Oscars is canceled in the very near future. There are way too many televised awards ceremonies now. However, the Oscars are still considered one of the four most major ones along with the Emmys, Tonys, and Grammys. (The Emmys once was anyway, maybe not today only going after streaming smut.) What would help Oscar ratings the most is actors not using this ceremony as their political soapbox. But airing on ABC, they sadly seem to push more politics on their entertainment shows than other networks.

The worst of Bestie's suggestions was limiting eligibility to only living actors. Someone shouldn't be discriminated against if their movie was in the eligible period just because they had become dead, that would be totally unfair to them.

I agree, it was pretty much word salad.
