Hulu Hands "How I Met Your Mother" Spin-off "How I Met Your Father" Straight-to-Series Order with Hilary Duff to Star, Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger to Run

"How I Met Your Father", a spin-off to long-running CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother", is finally set to make it to air.

Hulu has given the project, which will star Hilary Duff (Younger), a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.




Duff stars as Sophie, who is telling her son the story of how she met his father, much like Josh Radnor (and Bob Saget’s) Ted Mosby did in the original series. The story starts in 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

Duff will also produce the series, which will use a multi- and single-camera approach similar to its predecessor. Original creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will also exec produce the series, which is produced by 20th Television. Adam Londy will serve as co-executive producer.

Duff says she was a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, so that's why she was up for starring in Hulu's How I Met Your Father spinoff. “I knew I had to be the one to bring Sophie to life and share the female POV to this legendary show,” says Duff, riffing on Barney Stinson's favorite word. The Veronica Mars, Private Practice and GLOW alum will play one of Duff's character's friends, Jesse, on the How I Met Your Mother spinoff. Jesse is described as "smart, with a bit of an edge and cynical about love. He’s an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet and lives with his best friend Tom," according to Deadline. Lowell recently wrapped a recurring role on Shonda Rhimes' Inventing Anna.

Pam Fryman to Exec Produce, Direct Pilot for Hulu Spin-off Series "How I Met Your Father"

Pam Fryman (How I Met Your Mother) has boarded "How I Met Your Father" as an executive producer. She will also direct and exec produce the Hulu spin-off series’ pilot.

“My only complaint about my time on HIMYM was that it came to an end,” said Fryman in a statement. “I’m so excited to be stepping back into this world I love so much.”
