View Full Version : Easy Money - 1983 - Deleted Boxing Scene?
cloggedmind 04-19-2021, 02:41 PM Anyone care to share? This bit where Monty has a nightmare at a boxing match was added for cable airings and not present in the theatrical presentation.
Not on domestic vhs, Beta, laserdisc, dvd or Bluray.
Anyone?
Zoinks 05-12-2021, 05:44 AM Have you seen this traded in the past? I might have it, but I need to check a tape.
cloggedmind 05-13-2021, 09:10 PM It was on DailyMotion back when they were good, y'know? Just the deleted scene, not the whole movie. Internets research suggests the extended cut made it to a Greek vhs release with an English soundtrack and all, but which tape? The genius who supposedly had it conveniently couldn't share the barcode or other info.
I had it taped off HBO on a vhs (in glorious slp mode!) with Tim Conway's "The Long Shot". That tape long ago absconded/disappeared after an umpteenth moving house.
Funny, I always thought this one would be easier to track down than it is.
Dude111 05-13-2021, 10:26 PM Ya I think I have seen that..... They did the same to STAR TREK - The motion picture .. In 1983 they made a TV version and added a bunch of stuff that isnt it the original.... (Which makes it not quite as good really) - I got a copy of the original but it wasnt easy to get lemme tell ya! (Mostly the 1983 one is out there)
cloggedmind 05-13-2021, 10:42 PM The one Star Trek change that bugs me is the addition of the faces during the mind meld in part VI. I think Nick Meyer insisted that the change be made as he figured casual viewers wouldn't remember who the characters were by name at the end of the film? But it cuts into the tension and is mostly a distraction that looks like a network movie promo. And, it is the de-facto version, now.
Zoinks 05-14-2021, 06:12 AM Looks like I do have this. Recorded from HBO in 1985. Complete with all the promos leading up to the next movie. I'll try to get it transferred in the next week or two.
Dude111 05-14-2021, 12:43 PM Wow your lucky you have it in analogue my friend :)

cloggedmind 05-14-2021, 07:50 PM Nice. Thanks for the link! Saved. Won't be "lost" by me again! LOL
jeff1990 05-15-2021, 09:18 AM I'll take a copy when it's available.
Thanks,
cloggedmind 05-15-2021, 01:48 PM Would love to have the whole film intact, but the clip will do if not. Fills in the space nicely, and makes me feel less like I’m remembering something that didn’t happen: or something like that!
Zoinks 05-15-2021, 07:55 PM I'm just waiting on blank discs to arrive. It might not even be rare by the time they get here, but that's alright, too.
I'd love to trade for it. Give me a PM.
KyleThaddeus2015 05-24-2021, 08:15 PM If I remember, the 1992 VHS of the movie by budget label Promotional Concept Group was sourced from a 16mm copy and it may have been a TV edit. It might be intact on that version.

I wonder if my copy has the same promos as yours if it was recorded in April or May 1985.
Dude111 12-20-2025, 11:00 AM Looks like I do have this. Recorded from HBO in 1985.Yup I have it now also... Im not sure what channel it was recorded from...

No worries. Take your time. I don't believe so, but I could be wrong.

The deleted sequence didn't make it to any home video iteration. Brief shots were in one of the theatrical trailers, that's about it.
If the tape is in decent, playable shape (as in not done with permanent tracking issues from a misaligned machine) I could transfer it to digital for you and make it available for all of us'ns. I'd even cover the shipping.
"There's a Messerschmitt in the kitchen. Clean it up, will 'ya?!"
Dude111 12-21-2025, 09:22 PM I wonder why they left it out of the official VHS tape??
Is it on the VIDEODISC??
Im wondering if they had a reason for leaving it off.......

Casualty of editing for pacing?
While the sequence does show the inner conflict as the result of Monty's forced lifestyle change, its only purpose is just to show he is beating himself up for no reason as everyone has faults and weaknesses. And all the temptations depicted in that sort of drowsing dream sequence have already been addressed in the regular narrative.
The sequence was not included on the laserdisc, SelectaVision CED, Beta or VHS releases.
Three versions of the film do exist, though: The theatrical with the boxing/temptations nightmare sequence removed and the nudity, swearing and all drug references intact, the premium cable version with all the naughty bits plus the deleted scenes, and a primetime version with alternate takes, no dream sequence and dialogue that is safe for regular tv.
Note that in the standard release trailer, the Kimberly McArthur sunbathing scene is the tame version used for Network broadcast:

There was an alternate, "red band", R-rated trailer with, well, what you get in the movie!
jeff1990 01-01-2026, 12:51 PM It's a funny movie. Although not as great as Caddyshack.
