I have been in Assisted Living for my Physical Therapy and am experiencing Antenna TV for the first time. I like the programming but those Joe Namath Medicare ads are on at every commercial break. Enough already!:mad:

I do everything I can to avoid watching commercials, whether it is using a DVR or switching channels and so on. However even I saw that ad and it was not on Antenna TV. They must run it thousands of times a day on many different channels. I can't stand modern advertising however for some reason that ad did not bother me that much, maybe because Joe Namath is a familiar face going way back.

The ad makers must have a pact that they MUST be as annoying as possible. There's a new one from Post cereal that sends me after the mute button. And some are tolerable but after showing in every break they get old fast.

As far as Antenna TV goes, those endless medicare ads, beg-for-money commercials, and all the other 2nd rate "schlock" ads drive me nuts, too.

What irritates me about current OTA commercials is that most of them run for far more than 30 seconds a piece.

Oh, yeah, there are a few of them, infomercial style, that run five minutes. Typical junk like talcum powder attorneys, tax debt "services", identity theft protection.

Also several of the schlock beg-for-money ones run at least two minutes.

Medicare is a non- profit organization . Who is paying for these ads? I'm sure Joe is getting royalties each time they air.:confused:

There has to be some type of catch or scam. Here is how you know in most cases how something is a scam or just junk. It is advertised on TV these days.

Here is a quick story. I was thinking of buying something, I forget what it was. Then I found out it is advertised on TV. A commercial must have slipped through the DVR player. I immediately assumed because it was advertised these days, it cannot be any good so I did not buy it. And I was probably right. Advertising in general has totally changed in every way. It used to be pleasant and a lot of things advertised were pretty reputable. Within the past 2 and a half decades or so, it has become the complete opposite.

I agree. Modern commercials and really modern advertising is so obnoxious and idiotic. I used to really like commercials back in the days when they were so different and for the most part pleasant. And I agree 1970s commercials were very good. Not to mention of course that back in the day they showed so much less commercials compared to more recent times.

The same people putting on the ads are the ones that illegally (due to violating do-not-call list) robocall about Medicare. These ads definitely should not be on TV because they are 99% sure a scam. Number two reason they're a scam--Medicare enrollment period is in the fall.

A lot of what is advertised these days should definitely not be on TV. A lot of sleazy outfits that advertise these days used to be properly banned from the airwaves. Another thing. You ever see those products that say "As seen on TV" on the box or whatever, as if that is supposed to mean something. All that means is they paid money to advertise their junk.The deregulation of advertising is the reason any sleazy outfit can now advertise and is also the reason there are 4-5 times as many ads compared to let's say 40 plus years ago.

To further add. Advertising was fully deregulated around 1996 or 1997. It took a couple of years to really notice the effects, however I remember by the late 1990s is really when I started seeing an unacceptable amount of commercials on some channels. I also notice television in and of itself seemed to really fall in the gutter around that time( late 1990s). It had been declining for years before that however that is when it just totally fell apart. I am not only blaming unchecked advertising however it definitely did play a part.

Don't fret--I saw her this morning, of course on Antenna TV.

Maybe they were off TV for the winter, and now that spring is here, they figure everyone wants to work on their figure.

I never heard of that organization, but yeah even the broadcasters used to have some standards which most of them obviously do not have anymore.
