In an era where franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and others have let their fan bases down and failed to garner any new audiences; Cobra Kai, the sequel series based on the sleeper hit Karate Kid, has done the opposite. It has expanded its audience, and become everyone's favorite show that even Karate Kid fans never knew they wanted, but now can’t live without.
It was a long way there though. In this franchise retrospective, we will explore the history behind Cobra Kai and the Karate Kid, as we cover the original movie, it’s sequels, the reboot, the Cobra Kai revival; and why The Karate Kid franchise succeeded and endures to this day, where other much more prolific franchises arguably failed.
