To be such a traditional town, I thought it was odd that SO MANY ppl were unmarried..... there was Andy, Barney, Thelma Lou, Helen, Aunt Bee.... ~Was aunt Bee EVER married? ~, Gomer, Goober, Floyd, Howard, etc....

Otis was one of the few married ppl in Mayberry that I can recall

Mrs. Mendelbright, Clara Edwards, Sam Jones, Peggy McMillan, Frank Myers, Elly Walker, Ernest T. Bass, Irene Fairchild, Mr. Goss, the Darling boys & Briscoe, Mavis Neff, Mrs. Sprague (widow), Ramona Ankrum, and Millie also were single. I think Flora Malherbe, the (unnamed) hobo played by Douglas Fowley, and Mary Simpson (county nurse) as well. Others too, like the hobo played by Buddy Ebsen, Juanita at the diner, and of course the "Fun Girls" Daphne & Skippy.

There were lots of widowers on the series: Andy, Floyd, Briscoe Darling, Sam Jones, and Farmer Flint to name just a few. I think the butter & egg man as well, played by the same actor who later plays a character with the organ for the church (potential love interest for Clara). At least one of Bee's love interests was a widower for certain, and likely more.

Interestingly, today's episode of TAGS on my local channel begins with the wedding of Rose, the housekeeper Aunt Bea was soon to replace.

Clara was widowed also. Mrs. Sprague did get remarried.
