I think that they ( Beaver and Larry ) would have had a better chance of pulling off their caper if they had waited longer to return home, boring as it might have been, rather than returning home just in time for their dance class to end.

They would have got static for getting all dirty and reeking of horses, surely, but at least had a chance of having the parents believed they actually did go to dance class and met the horse girl ( Penny! ) on the way home.

Not a great chance, mind you, due to Ward and June's legendary adroitness at cross examination, but damn, they didn't even try!

Agreed. Horse hairs on them maybe, but they look they've been tossed off of a horse. Larry's devious shrewdness could have come in handy cooking up a story, and they'd have time to perfect it. Who knows, it could be a great way for them to learn critical thinking skills and thinking more than an hour ahead. :)
