Amazing only Walter knew, and never mentioned, Arthur had a twin. FOL-FAN-ITA 04-11-2021, 02:20 PM Bonar Bain's filmography on IMDb says differently. You're right, several sites cited him as a guest star but the closing credits of that episode of season 6 ("The Van Drummonds") doesn't include his name. Conrad played both roles  biffbronson 04-11-2021, 02:49 PM Actor Ivan Bonar could maybe have a son, nephew, or brother named... I guess that it was Conrad that played Cousin Anna then. The last time that I watched "The Van Drummonds" was before that I even knew that Conrad Bain had a twin brother. Creepy episode! I agree. By season 6, the show was in its declining years. The Wedding could have been a good series finale Mace Dolex 04-23-2021, 12:54 AM Well, it worked for the guy on Growing Pains :) That was even worse as the characters name on the show was Boner with an 'E' that I'm still amazed how that got past the TV censors. Mace Dolex 08-10-2021, 01:24 AM You're right, several sites cited him as a guest star but the closing credits of that episode of season 6 ("The Van Drummonds") doesn't include his name. Conrad played both roles  I just saw the episode on Amazon Prime and you're right about Conrad being listed in the credits as playing Anna. I'm thinking Bonar Bain did in fact play Anna VanDrummond in just the one end scene in the living room as the lighting is darkened to hide the fact its Bonar as Anna and we also just see Dana Plato as Hans and not playing double duty as Kimberly. Old School 09-06-2021, 10:13 AM If he ever took Conrad's place on a Diff'rent Strokes episode?? https://img.networthpost.org/thumbs/47691_bonar-bain/47691_bonar-bain_1.jpeg Mace Dolex 09-06-2021, 07:32 PM ^ oh yeah I see the resemblance now. TMC 10-04-2024, 01:42 AM You're right, several sites cited him as a guest star but the closing credits of that episode of season 6 ("The Van Drummonds") doesn't include his name. Conrad played both roles  BOTNS Investigates: Diff'rent Strokes: The Search for Bonar (https://www.battleofthenetworkshows.com/2021/08/botns-investigates-diffrent-strokes.html) When exploring the world of SCTV for our episode earlier this season, I was astonished to learn that the Season 6 Diff'rent Strokes episode "The Van Drummonds" featured Bonar as well. I always assumed this ridiculous installment of the program, one that had Dana Plato in drag as Dutch cousin Hans, also had CONRAD Bain in drag as Hans' mother Anna Van Drummond. Yet according to multiple sources, including IMDB, it's twin brother BONAR! OR IS IT? I screened this one when the series landed on Prime Video (in syndicated edits for some reason, but that's another story), and the main thing that hit me was how annoying the story was. Arnold and Willis are blamed throughout the episode for the wrongdoing of Hans, and as a kid I always hated these kinds of plots. The kids are clearly innocent, and everyone knows it except the person disciplining them--in this case, Mr. Drummond, who should know better. Other than that, though, I thought, yeah, it looks like Conrad. Then again, BONAR looks Conrad. They're twins! https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihStWpnEoJkasWYy5fYaxyPEPrSDNjloBh5Cnam5MqLvCBEPYetuQGLH6nSyVabuePB0e7NnvYjkTzND90PrY7ETD_AuISKC7G2bjwhGUE3pK64UtkSVNTRiZ8JSj6I7xtFcT7yZxxaXgE/w400-h311/DiffrentStrokesConradasAnna2.jpg Yet the end credits tell a diff'rent story: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGaMqhCVffYyqaSTOErCh8Wd1azGiIeZM5P-MNJaXGdnzGG0XtAAhRm9W0rgqsOZ0pXt08aKNIjMg8zlbS5Rq8GZam4pBvD46f7CETEktl_u95j3nimiwgACYdDvzC_iJcI2peqE8S01j-/w400-h295/DiffrentStrokesConradasAnna.jpg Fun fact, by the way: This episode was written by multiple-Academy-Award-winning screenwriter Paul Haggis! So why is Bonar given credit for this role? Hey, Conrad worked hard in this Emmy-baiting role. Don't take his thunder! I found this article that explains it (https://www.newspapers.com/clip/80032609/bonar-bain-on-diffrent-strokes/). Many thanks to the kind soul who clipped this and made it free even for non-Newspapers.com subscribers: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxDE0KeS_1Et54pE6ZUK1ys0do-M0L5OcLGdg6Y9-BSKGDAUBjGlcLg-QLQv_-_YcSnK0hOsxErMnD7l3lTyJBMBpdzoY22AJ7dTxaKsxvfid2f1TfDAzk-Kv5cYumTNKrhIexUG0cg61-/w199-h400/img.jpe Bonar was there and on set, but did not appear on camera except from behind as Anna (Oh, BEhave!). And much love to Knight-Ridder for running a story like this on an upcoming episode of Diff'rent Strokes. In fact, if you do a Google search, you will find Getty Images pics that credit Bonar as Anna, and I believe this added to the confusion. Check out this stunner which shows both Con and Bon together (https://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/the-van-drummonds-episode-6-pictured-conrad-bain-as-philip-news-photo/138356991?adppopup=true). https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3RjpRu1ccij9QFdhQjnOawnsQYqU4UmKq0w05Tl5-UzJwv0294vMz6XUNSKaNSkahpQbqNyN16p2YezGreXVbn1PJbBXOhpgqgUiMMW5vDRbsjvhXNhS0BOlolS_z1Axb-Dnj6QYC42dT/s320/gettyimages-138356991-612x612.jpg The confusion is understandable but unacceptable to TV historians! Conrad Bain deserves his due, and Bonar deserves to be honored for his actual work. Yet it's still comforting to know that Bonar was a part of this seminal Diff'rent Strokes episode. The search for REAL Bonar continues! |
