After an unusually long and bumpy road to the screen, production is finally underway on Disney's live-action remake of the animated classic Pinocchio.

Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis will direct the adaptation, with an all-star cast attached to play the film's various iconic roles.

Tom Hanks as Geppetto

Tom Hanks will reunite with his Forrest Gump and Cast Away director to play Pinocchio's "father" Geppetto, the kindly old man who creates the wooden marionette.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio

After roles in The Haunting of Bly Manor and Disney's Flora & Ulysses, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth's profile will continue to rise with the titular role in Pinocchio.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will voice Pinocchio's conscience and iconic Disney mascot Jiminy Cricket. He previously collaborated with Zemeckis on the 2015 Philippe Petit biopic The Walk.

Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy

Cynthia Erivo will add to her expanding filmography with the role of The Blue Fairy, who brings Pinocchio to life and eventually makes him a real boy.

Luke Evans as The Coachman

A returning player in the Disney live-action remake game (he played Gaston in 2017's Beauty and the Beast), Luke Evans will star as the sinister Coachman who is in charge of Pleasure Island where boys are turned into donkeys.

Keegan-Michael Key as Honest John

The "Key & Peele" star will voice the sly fox Honest John, another agent of temptation on Pinocchio's journey.

Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull

"The Sopranos" star Lorraine Bracco will voice a new character, Sofia the Seagull, who will likely play a role in saving Pinocchio and Geppetto from the belly of Monstro the whale.

I cannot figure out why Disney decided to make a live-action version of Pinocchio because it seems odd to me. Disney in the past had some wonderful films but when they started making live-action adaptions of their animated movies you could tell that they were going downhill. Because when you take an animated and turn it into live action some movies do work while some fail. Another thing is why Disney+ chose Pinocchio to be exclusive to them when it would've been wise to just release it in theaters because I see it as a way to get more money. The only thing that will be the big draw to this movie is Tom Hanks and I think because he is the star he will get top billing and gain money from this movie. If you want a wonderful version of Pinocchio take a look at the movie The New Adventures Of Pinocchio with Martin Landau and Jonathan Taylor Thomas
