View Full Version : Teacher Comes to Dinner
One like, one dislike.
When the family dining with Ms Landers outside on the patio, beaver raises his hand when he wants to talk. That absolutely cracked me up. It's also telling of how he considers her an authority figure even in his own home.
The infamous Beaver screech. Jumpy and anxious awaiting Ms Landers' arrival, when the doorbell rings he screeches that horrific "Hey Mom! Hey Mom!". It made me literally flinch. I know he does that screech in his earlier years many times, but in this episode I'd want to slam him. Not only would someone outside at the door hear him, so would the across the street neighbors. His scream could shatter June's good crystal.
vitoscotti 03-17-2021, 02:23 PM Didn't Ward or June say "take Miss Landers by the arm to the dinner table?" But then Beaver replies "but Mom there's nothing on it."

Yep, I'm pretty sure it was June, then Wally escorted June out followed by Beaver and Miss Landers.

There are a couple of episodes in season 3 where Beaver is a really annoying little brat. When June's Birthday comes around (tomorrow), check out the scene with him and Wally in the kitchen.
CosmicCharlie 03-17-2021, 08:26 PM Funny to see the camera Zoom In on Ms Landers Toes (any thoughts ?)
Also Ms Landers Top is Very Low Cut, pretty sexy for visiting a student's home.
Even Beaver is not happy having to take Ms Landers Naked Arm !

I'll do that. thanks for the heads-up.
stevea 03-18-2021, 03:25 PM That kitchen scene wasn't as bad as I remember. But that scene with the boys in the bedroom, near the beginning. I would have liked to "clop" him one!
I just watched the 'June's Birthday' episode and yes, Beaver is very much in the throes of "the terrible tens" ( give or take a year ). He's slightly wiser than in the first season, but still very very ignorant of the ways of the world. When combined with his wilfulness, he is the consummate little brat to everyone except his father and his teachers.
Another detail. "Wilma Flintstone" makes an appearance too. The mothter's club meeting where the class is brought to sing is hosted in the house of 'Mrs Harrison', played by none other than Jean Van der Pyle...the voice of Wilma on 'The Flintstones'.
She appears a few times on other LITB episodes.
stevea 03-19-2021, 06:21 PM Little brat, good description, esp. in this episode. That high, loud, yelling voice--ugh!
Vander Pyl was in 2 other episodes I recall--Mrs. Hanson, Alma's mother, whose husband stood by the fireplace and smoked a pipe, and she wanted Alma to see other boys besides Wally. And the lady in the school hall who told June she had the husband who didn't "do anything" (like play the piano, etc.). This was in Beaver and Kenneth, the klepto kid.
Howard 03-19-2021, 06:40 PM Man, you do know your BEAVER-TRIVIA! I thought I was the maven!
CosmicCharlie 03-19-2021, 08:01 PM If it appropriate for Miss Landers to call Whitey "Whitey" ?
stevea 03-19-2021, 08:02 PM As young Ricky Nelson would say, We don't mess around, boy!

Oh! Well, maybe she should call him Hubert. In the first episode Miss Canfield called him Harold.
What would Beaver say if she called him Theodore or Teddy?
TSMIV 03-19-2021, 10:48 PM Teacher Comes to Dinner is one of my favorite episodes.
stevea 03-20-2021, 07:38 AM It really is one of the funniest episodes.
"This is my brother Wally. He's a sophomore in high school and he took a bath." (because I nagged him into it...)
Scrabjan1 03-20-2021, 11:32 AM Didn’t Jean V. also play Penny’s mother in two episodes?
Hey I wonder if that really was Miss Landers’ toes because when Beaver is making a sandwich (Beaver’s Prize) and pushes down on the bread that’s not his hand. Also when Larry is lighting the pipe to smoke that is a right hand and Larry is a lefty. Also they wouldn’t have Beaver’s hand lighting the pipe and smoking it either.
stevea 03-20-2021, 11:39 AM I always miss something--yes, Penny's mom twice--in doll buggy and when the Woodses are moving.
Yes, good catches on all those close-ups. They can be shot anytime later or earlier, and sure, it can be anybody's hand, or toes. And evidently they don't pay attention to handedness.
CosmicCharlie 03-20-2021, 01:40 PM I went back and rewatched - I could pick up i bit of Wilma's voice in it on certain words !
Dude111 03-21-2021, 01:06 AM I remember this episose :)
Miss Landers liked her dinner!!!
vitoscotti 04-21-2021, 04:28 AM One of my favorite LITB episodes. Brilliant performance by Jerry Mathers. Love when comic actors are put in uncomfortable situations. Another bad move by June. All turned out well. Classic Larry the rat. Must be 20 years since last seeing it. Funny bit, Beaver amazed at Ms Landers toes. My only complaint is it went by too fast.
Some funny lines.
Beaver- You look good too Ms Landers. I never saw your arms before
Wally- Miss Landers? Is it true Andrew Johnson was the only President to be impeached?
Beaver- (While raising his hand for permission to speak) Ms Landers? Would you like another glass of water?
Gilbert- What are those things hanging from her ears?
Gilbert- Look she's got toes!
CosmicCharlie 08-26-2021, 08:12 PM So are these Miss Landers Toes or some Sears Toes ? lol
Dude111 08-27-2021, 03:34 AM Ah man!!
