I know the Beverly Hillbillies became a TV show, but I'm watching one episode where Eb is watching Petticoat Junction!!! That was a little too over the top, seeing as how the G.A. ppl interacted with the ppl from Petticoat junction pretty much all the time.... With the Clampetts it was subtle because they were so far away

By the fourth season they had pretty much moved away from their Petticoat Junction roots. Maybe they included this scene just to drive home the point that Green Acres is a separate series and is forging its own path.

I know, that was bizarre! But that was part of Green Acres charm, being way over the top of reality!!:D

One of the running gags in the show was the constant breaking of the 4th wall, Lisa cooking "name cakes", talking to the fife player, names of the production staff on eggs, on bathrobes etc...

Yes lol I guess they could have gone in a TOTAL crazy direction and had them watching Green Acres, and Eb been like, "Oh this is the episode where you first bought the farm Mr Douglas!!" As Oliver sees himself and Lisa on TV and is like, "What the...." then just brushes it off lol

I think Floyd Smooth and Joe Carson..and the other train engineer are pretty much through out Green Acres

Of course having Frank Cady as Sam Drucker with his store on both series linked them inseparably, and Sam continued for the one (final) season of GA after PJ was canceled.

Floyd Smoot and Charley were only in the first two seasons. Uncle Joe appeared sporadically for the first five seasons but was only a regular in season 1.

Of course GA will always be linked to PJ as a result of the cross-pollination efforts by Paul Henning early in the series, but beyond a certain point it became clear (at least to me) that Jay Sommers wanted his show to make a name for itself. Thus we saw a gradual reduction in the PJ references and characters, outside of Hooterville itself, Mr. Drucker, etc. (though the GA versions of these things were more in the vein of GA)

The scene with Eb watching PJ on TV is probably playing into the running gag of other characters mysteriously aware of the fact they're living in a TV show, but I like to think it runs a little deeper than that.

LOL I could see Eb saying something like, "Golly, on this Petticoat Junction show, there's a Sam Drucker who run a General store just like our Sam Drucker and looks a lot like him too!"

I like how they mentioned watching Beverly Hillbillies a couple of times early in the series, then had Thanksgiving dinner with them in a BH episode.
