Christopher 03-14-2021, 09:15 AM Ross from Friends and Mike from All in The Family are the worst characters I've seen in sitcoms. Ross is whiny and childish. Mike likes to mooch, criticize others, and feel superior to everyone else. They both bring the quality down from the shows they're in. I rarely rewatch Friends anymore because of how bad Ross is and Mike's ego trip is making it hard to watch all of All in The Family for the first time. The last episode I watched was The Games Bunkers Play and it's by far the worst Mike episode yet. Even Edith was fed up with Mike and she likes everybody. I can't think of any others who are as bad as these two.
TVLegend 03-14-2021, 09:42 AM Urkel from Family Matters………I didn’t mind him in the first four seasons but his eventual overexposure and obsession with harassing The Winslow Family, especially Carl and Laura and his annoying, unrealistic, squealing, high pitch voice in the later seasons was too much for me and he’s the main reason I don’t watch later seasons of Family Matters. Don’t even get me started on his cheesy inventions, and his alter egos, who the hell is “Stephan Urquelle”? And the show ends with this annoying moron living in The Winslows house and being friends with them and winning over Laura after years of harassment??!!
Blanche Devereux from The Golden Girls………She was a selfish, hypocritical, harassing, self centered slut. I like how she felt uncomfortable when the dean was sexually harassing her in Season 1 but all through the show she’s harassing and chasing after men, which is often unwanted. She took numberless amounts of Rose’s, and especially Dorothy’s boyfriends. She completely disowned and was disrespectful towards her younger brother, Clayton, just because he was gay and acted as if he wasn’t human and rejected a man and made a big deal out of it just because he was wheelchair bound. She embarrassed herself at The Rusty Anchor and tried to steal the spotlight from Dorothy because she was jealous and envious of Dorothy getting all the attention from the men. Blanche babysitted her daughter Rebecca’s daughter, Aurora, and passed her off as her own just for some younger man. Blanche had her moments but some of the stuff she did throughout the show were just sick.
Terri Alden from Three’s Company………I hardly have to explain. Watch an episode of Three’s Company from Seasons 6-8. She was so boring, dull, dry, uninteresting, and pointless.
Cindy Snow from Three’s Company………I kinda like Cindy but I can only take her in small doses so I’m glad her duration as a regular was only for a season (only to be replaced by TERRI). Sometimes it was like she needed help. She tripped over everything and was clumsy and klutzy, wore wacky hairstyles that didn’t suit her sometimes, and would get in someone’s face and make dumb facial expressions and faces.
Balderman Davis from Good Times………the man was a lying, conniving, two timing weasel. He would always pester The Evans and threaten to evict them and blackmail them. But in the end he knew damn well they couldn’t afford to be evicted and forced them to stay in the ghetto even longer. He helped The Evans in no way. The only times he wouldn’t pester The Evans was when James was alive because he and James were good buddies.
icecream 03-14-2021, 10:55 AM 1. Ray Romano- Everybody Loves Raymond. He makes it to #1 since Ray is the main character who was on the whole show. Supporting cast is fantastic, but Ray is such a whiny baby.
2. Billy on Head of the Class- Billy Connolly is a horrible actor here, a huge downgrade from Howard Hesseman. At least he was only on one season though.
3. T.J. on Head of the Class- such a nasty and rude person. And what an insult to the true geniuses that they made someone who was in remedial several years valedictorian at the end.
4. Sam and Maggie on Diff'rent Strokes- Show is basically unwatchable after they came. Danny Cooksey especially is really annoying.
5. Lisette on Night Court- Her gasping before starting everything she says is irritating.
6. Alex on Wings- Acting of all the other regulars runs circles around Farrah Forke.
7. Reverend Tim Tom on The Middle and Pastor Jeff on Young Sheldon- I hate sacrilegious depictions of pastors.
8. Andy on According to Jim- Show would be a lot better without this creeper.
9. Steve and Barbara on Hazel- CBS was idiots getting rid of George and Dorothy for these jokers. If George and Dorothy had remained, Hazel probably would have been popular enough for a season 6.
10. Jenny Piccalo on Happy Days- She should have remained an unseen character.
merlinjones 03-14-2021, 12:33 PM Ricky (The Partridge Family)
Yes susan was annoying
From Friends, I would have chosen Janice instead. Remember her? ("Oh! My! God!!")
RetroGuy2000 03-14-2021, 02:00 PM Urkel from Family Matters………I didn’t mind him in the first four seasons but his eventual overexposure and obsession with harassing The Winslow Family, especially Carl and Laura and his annoying, unrealistic, squealing, high pitch voice in the later seasons was too much for me and he’s the main reason I don’t watch later seasons of Family Matters. And the show ends with this annoying moron living in The Winslows house and being friends with them and winning over Laura after years of harassment??!!
Yeah, as the years went along, it got worse and worse. Had they kept him as a side player, it would have been much better. But he became the main character.
RetroGuy2000 03-14-2021, 02:03 PM From Friends, I would have chosen Janice instead. Remember her? ("Oh! My! God!!")
The thing about Janice is that she was supposed to irritate the other characters; that's what made her bits funny. And I personally still find this line hilarious: "I'll write you every day. ...15 Yemen Road, Yemen."
RetroGuy2000 03-14-2021, 02:05 PM 2. Billy on Head of the Class- Billy Connolly is a horrible actor here, a huge downgrade from Howard Hesseman. At least he was only on one season though.
Another really good pick. After the first few episodes, I don't think I even watched that final season. Billy was terrible!
RetroGuy2000 03-14-2021, 02:08 PM Ross from Friends and Mike from All in The Family are the worst characters I've seen in sitcoms. Ross is whiny and childish. Mike likes to mooch, criticize others, and feel superior to everyone else. They both bring the quality down from the shows they're in. I rarely rewatch Friends anymore because of how bad Ross is
I don't mind Ross so much in the earlier years, but in the later years, both he and Monica became caricatures of themselves. When Ross started screaming about his sandwich, I wanted to slap the guy.
stevea 03-14-2021, 02:28 PM Stealing a few from above, excellent pick on Ray Barone/Ray Romano!
Stealing with some modification, Mary Ann Mobley's version of Maggie from Diff'rent Strokes. By this point the show was on life support anyway, but Mary Ann was a bad choice to replace Dixie Carter in the Maggie role.
But the BEST pick is Ricky from Partridge Family. He was so bad they had to dump him after a few episodes. He and the bowl for his haircut were GONE! And as a parting shot, who in the world thought this kid could sing?

Dont judge me but I thought she was sexy:lol:
TVLegend 03-14-2021, 03:27 PM Yeah, as the years went along, it got worse and worse. Had they kept him as a side player, it would have been much better. But he became the main character.
After Season 4 or 5 he should’ve dropped down to being a side player again, the show didn’t have the rely on him that much anymore, FM was starting to run it’s course. Instead, we got MORE and MORE of Urkel. How does the show go from The Winslows being front burner with Urkel being a side character to Urkel being front burner with The Winslows hardly appearing?

I don't know? When she wasn't wearing those 80's blue stockings, she did have a nice pair of legs.
Christopher 03-14-2021, 07:48 PM Chandler seemed to annoy me more
Chandler and Monica are my favorites. I never got annoyed by them. I did get annoyed when Ross and Rachel would take away moments from Chandler and Monica. Their engagement, Rachel decides to hook up with Ross. Helping Monica send out wedding invitations, Rachel seduces Ross. The big day for Monica and Chandler is forgotten because Rachel is pregnant with Ross's baby. Then the final episode for Monica and Chandler adopting a baby is overshadowed by Rachel taking Ross back. I wish they had killed Ross off or sent him away in the early years. Ross and Rachel having their on again off again ruined the entire series. If cancel culture ever targets that show, I won't miss it.

Chandler was just so submissive, not masculine at all
1960'sTVfan 03-14-2021, 07:56 PM Steve and Barbara on Hazel- CBS was idiots getting rid of George and Dorothy for these jokers. If George and Dorothy had remained, Hazel probably would have been popular enough for a season 6.
CBS wanted a change in casting when they picked up the show from NBC for season 5. I think Steve and Barbara were OK, not as good of course as the original Mr. and Mrs. B. but they were adequate in their roles. Regardless of what the ratings were, I don't think there would have been a 6th season because Shirley Booth was tiring and having some health issues during season 5 and she was ready for the series to be over.
Christopher 03-14-2021, 08:04 PM Chandler was just so submissive, not masculine at all
Ross wasn't masculine either. Whining all the time "we were on a break" shows how pathetic he is. He could never take responsibility for his actions. I never saw Chandler as submissive. What did Chandler do that made him submissive in your opinion? One thing Chandler did that Ross never knew how to do was keep the woman he loves without hurting her.

Now don’t include Aunt Fran into your list. LOL. The poor thing suffered enough having dying after choking on a toothpick right in the middle of The Bigger Jigger.
How about Iola?
But seriously, I actually like Aunt Fran a lot and prefer her to Iola. I would’ve agreed with you if you said Blanche Devereux from The Golden Girls.

Well maybe not hate, just I didn't think the character brought anything to the show , I didn't really care for Buzz or Sonia either! I love Iola ! I wasn't a big fan of the original Mama's family. I like the later seasons with Iola and Bubba much better ! ;) And yeah, it was a little harsh having her die the way she did!:D

Fran was a hoot who happened to be spinster
Iola was an annoying pest who couldn’t stand to be more than 100 feet near a male unless it was her father, Vinton, Bubba, or other male family members from her family
I still liked Iola but she got annoying and wore out quick over time. Buzz and Sonia were great. Bubba was okay and had his moments. So I guess I prefer the earlier seasons.

Babalu 03-15-2021, 05:30 AM Why do you not like Betty Jo ? And Aunt Clara is such a sweet old gal ! :(
Aunt Clara's stammering act became tiresome after awhile.
Once Betty Jo was married all they ever did was talk about the baby. I watched when I was about ten years old and for a ten year old boy, babies were boring.
JustaViewer 03-15-2021, 07:57 AM Debra's parents on Everybody Loves Raymond, played by Robert Culp and Katherine Helmond.
I skip over their episodes I have on DVD.
JustaViewer 03-15-2021, 08:02 AM 3. Potsie on Happy Days...........Nerdy and annoying.
Oddly enough Potsie was originally supposed to be the "worldly" character. After Henry Winkler took over the show Potsie became irrelevant.

Obviously the producers must have wished the same thing from the lack of Potsie appearances on the show post Richie.

Seriously, the one that I disliked from that show was Laura.
That girl was so stuck-up and shallow and only rarely was sympathetic to me.
Conversely, Steve was really relatable to me (except that I don't get why he didn't just give up on Laura, who never was worth all of his devotion to her).
Other characters I dislike from otherwise good sitcoms are:
1: both Cliff and Clair from "Cosby Show" - they were stuck-up, and Cliff was not as funny as he thought he was.
2: the two British airmen from "Allo Allo" - they had to be there for plot reasons, but I never found them funny.
3: Judith from "2 1/2 Men" - man, do I hate her guts!
4: Becky from "Roseanne" - she was so dumb and whiny and annoying.
5: Mark from "Kenan & Kel" - I normally just love nerdy characters, but they forgot to give this guy any charm at all.

Urkel just kept pestering and pestering and menacing them. If this was in real life, The Winslows would’ve called the cops on Urkel for stalking. And then when someone would have enough and even ask Steve politely to leave them alone and go away, he all of a sudden would get “upset” and throw a tantrum like he was no older than five. And then The Winslows would apologize and accept him “all over again”. That got tiring and repetitive and sickening after nine years. And poor Laura. She just keeps on being harassed and pestered and menaced by Urkel the most out of the family. Urkel just should’ve moved on after Laura rejected him the first time and realized that there’s other fish in the sea, but no, he just kept on chasing and harassing and pestering and menacing her nonstop for nearly nine years. Bravo to anyone who can endure that. How the hell she was able to forgive him and date him and his lame alter ego “Stephan Urquelle” is beyond me.

I didn't really watch "Head of the Class" that often, especially during the last season. Was Billy Connolly's acting really that bad there?
If so, then whoa, what a switch over the following six or seven years:
I mean, if his acting was so bad in the early 1990's, then it's a big surprise to think that he became A-list or near-A-list Hollywood movie-star royalty by the late 1990's, including starring opposite Dame Judi Dench in the historical period-piece drama "Mrs. Brown"! Whoa!

icecream 03-16-2021, 10:51 PM I didn't really watch "Head of the Class" that often, especially during the last season. Was Billy Connolly's acting really that bad there?
His acting was bloody awful on Head of the Class.
TVFactFan 03-16-2021, 11:34 PM He had to everyday. He was a regular cast member!
He was another Mr. Bentley
JustaViewer 03-17-2021, 07:18 AM I will run the risk of angering Cheers fans by giving mine.
Shelly Long as Diane Chambers on Cheers. She was basically the reason I rarely watched the show. Perhaps it's because I knew a person in real life who looked and acted exactly like her. Ted Danson was (and still is) overrated, but he was by far more bearable than Long.
The only episode of Cheers I absolutely love was the one with John Cleese. He told Sam and Diane what every non-fan wanted to say for years.
TVLegend 03-17-2021, 04:35 PM Carl was the cops.
That’s how forgettable Carl’s police job was. I hardly remember he was a police because while it’s mentioned throughout the show, it’s not mentioned much, and we only saw a handful of episodes that featured Carl doing his job.
Gemini_89 05-19-2022, 01:52 PM 1. Myra from Family Matters- She was a psychopath for real and her voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Plus I hate how her fans are always attacking Laura Winslow and even the actress that plays Laura who is Kellie Williams. All because Urkel was in love with Laura and NOT her. Myra fans are so bitter.
2. Rachel from Glee- Annoying and never related to her.
3. Blair Warner from The Facts Of Life- I didn't like her personality and related to her THE LEAST out of all of them.

Really unbearable... and Frasier is my favorite sitcom ever.
Coophawksfan 05-26-2022, 08:17 PM 1. I use to watch rerun All in The Family and then I watch it again, I did not like Mike, always make a smart remark about Politics or religion that he put on people, (Rob Reiner is just like his characters) He should keep it to himself. When he plays the game with his wife, his mother-in-law and his friend Lional Jefferson, even thought that was his idea to plays when they tell him how they felt, he gets mad.
2. Gloria (All in the Family) she is so whined and let her husband do control or something like that.
3. JJ (Good Times) I can't stand him, he thinks he know it all.
4. Urkel (Family Matter) He stalk and obsesses with Laura. I know he is in love with Laura, but she keeps telling him no and he still going after her. I didn't like the end of the show that CBS rush the show to cancelled, it all about Urkel, got two women to quit.
5. Michelle (Full House.) I like Michelle when she was a baby and kid and then at the end of series finale, it all about Michelle, we never see if Jesse and Rebecca move out, Joey finally got himself girlfriend, Danny got remarried to Vicky and move to Chicago with Stephanie and Michelle and D.J. went to college.
Full House, I don't know if Full House move to CBS after ABC cancelled them, if they are, it got the worst series finale and Family Matter got the worst series finale by CBS.

I have to disagree on Rob Reiner being just like his character. I read Cary Elwes' Inconceivable book a few years ago about the making of The Princess Bride. He was full of praise for Rob Reiner's kindness in directing and putting him at ease where lesser directors wouldn't have.
Coophawksfan 05-26-2022, 10:27 PM icecream- Thanks, that's the one I'm thinking, I can't remember which show it was. It's okay agree to disagree. Rob is on tweeter and bashes Trump even I'm not fan of Trump and telling people who to vote for.
icecream 06-05-2022, 09:49 PM I was too harsh on Wings Alex/Farrah Forke in my original post. While she still isn't on the level of the other actors, I don't mind her on the show either.

icecream 01-02-2023, 04:03 AM Cody on Step by Step was highly irritating, show would have been a lot better without him. Seasons 6 and 7 which are not part of TruTV's weekend marathon might be an improvement over the first five seasons with that unfunny loser's absence, the prince episode which is the first without him was already much improved. "Dana burger" was a lousy nickname. And way too much Cody also led to Karen being really underused a lot of the time.

I disagree, since Cody was the most memorable character on the show.
He also did a lot of good things like saving Dana from being attacked by a mugger, and telling off a jerk who mocked Karen for being a virgin.
But I can't expect everybody to like him, and I guess that he can come across as annoying if you haven’t seen all the nuances of the character.
