After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let
Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered, I believe this is even more appropriate. Read on, please! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he?


IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- I don't want to hear about it.

I don't even have to say much for this post, except clap for the author of that editorial. Every word was so true. *claps*

I agree with every word in that letter. Especially the part about the languages. patriot:

I agree with this mostly, except for one thing. I don't think we should force all immigrants to become Christians if they don't want to be. I have a lot of friends who have come here from India and are Hindus (like me, though I was born here) and don't want to bother anybody or change any American rules, but just want to go on living their lives quietly. I'm not in the "politically correct crowd" at all, just so you know - in fact, I don't even like them! My only point is that not all immigrants want to cause trouble and only the ones who do are the ones who should leave. I think the rest should be allowed follow any religion they wish and just left in peace. Also, there are many immigrants who do speak English whenever they're in public, at least I know many Indians who do. But I wholeheartedly agree, anyone who hates it here and wants to make trouble should just leave.

I agree with mostly everything, except for kind of the whole language thing. Yes, they should know English, but should be able to speak their own, as well. But for the most part, that author did a good job. patriot:

Yea the language this really gets to me. I mean come on, you know how long it is to actually learn English? My parents have been in America for about 20 years now and are still learning English. It's not the easiest language to learn. Hell, it's about the hardest langugae in the world to learn because of all the exceptions, rules, and the never ending way to say the "ough."

1) it isn't saying that immigrants should become christians, it is saying that our country was founded on religious freedoms, and that our motto is "in God we trust" (although I'd prob disagree with that, but whatever) and to get over and not to push your religion or anti-religion on us.

2) As for the English language. I'm sorry, but 20 years, is MORE than enough time to learn the English language, even with all the exceptions, etc. Also, it is not saying do not use their native languages, but you need to learn English in order to survive in this country. My grandparents (both sets of my parents families actually) were imigrants to this country from Italy. They spoke nothing but Italian when they moved here, so did both of my parents who were 8 and 12 when they came over here. They made a commitment to come to the US and bc of this, they made sure they learned the English language and they learned the way of life here. They spoke nothing but English both in the streets and in the home. They adapted to the American way of life bc they WANTED to be in this country. There are still some, very few, Italian customs that my family still to this day adhere to, BUT, I know, at the most 15 or 20 Italian words/sayings bc it wasn't spoken in the home and my parents and grandparents wanted to make sure that I knew I was an American with Italian roots. So don't give me the crap that its too hard to learn, everyone of them did it, and so can anyone else.

I have noticed, that the one nationality that doesn't like to learn English or the American cultures are the Mexicans. They come to my country bc they want a better life yet they refuse to learn English and then complain and say its too difficult...I'm sorry, but that is a cop out and they are nothing but hypocrits.

First, I must apologize to TJ for there will probably be some mild cussing in this post. Please don't kick me off TJ, I'm usually a good girl! :D

I must say, I find that article highly offensive, and I don't give a rat's ass if you all want to jump on me for it!!!

That article basically just told me, an AMERICAN BORN citizen, who has lived in AMERICA all her life, whose parents have lived in AMERICA all their lives, whose grand-parents have lived in AMERICA all their lives (we've been here many generations, folks!) to get the hell out!

And what bothers me even more is all of you are ok with that. (except for the girl with Hindu friends) Well you can go F*ck yourselves. I'm getting tired of being told that if I don't accept the Christian God I don't belong in this country. F*uck you! I belong here just as much as any other person! I speak the f-ing language, but that isn't good enough for you all. It was awful clever of this journalist to disguise his pot-shots at non-Christian Americans as trying to make you all think that all "those" people are immigrants, but surely you can see through that?!

Since when did being patriotic mean we have to be monumentous pricks to everyone, even fellow Americans?!? That's sure as hell not my definition of patriotism.

I TOTALLY disagree with wot that person wrote. The entire religious thing goes against one of the important things of our country: to have religious freedom. Just because they don't believe in God doesn't mean they don't belong here. And I know it takes awhile to learn English, it took me awhile to learn it. I've visited other countries in Europe, and a lot of the people I've met speak English..well they don't need to learn English then because 'those damn foregin Americans need to learn how to speak [insert language]'..that's pretty much how it would go if it was set along the basis that the person who wrote that set down.

I totally agree, people shouldn't have to be forced to be christian I'm christian..and I don't think they should have to be if they want to change let them...if they want to learn a new language they should be allowed too. Its hard to adjust to a totally new place already without the pressures of converting from different things that you practiced in your old country.

I disagree with the first post too. I don't think that anybody should have to change their religion if they don't want to. As for the language thing the should learn to speak English but they can also speak whatever other language they want and for some people its VERY hard to learn. My Grandmother who has been here for a long time still only knows how to speak only a few words.
