Melissa Joan Hart is a cultural blind spot for me. I was nowhere near the target demographic for her hit tween TV shows, Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. When Hart attempted to jump to the big screen with the teen comedy, Drive Me Crazy, the movie was barely on my radar. I knew she was the girl from that witch show, but there were too many young TV actors trying to make it in movies for me to keep them all straight.
Somehow, Hart made the cover of the August 1999 issue of Movieline magazine to promote Drive Me Crazy (which was titled Next To You at the time). Hart very matter-of-factly states that she makes more money off of TV movies than feature films, so perhaps it’s not surprising that she returned to television after her only starring role.
