I have always wonder why JJ did not apply for college scholarship due to his painting capacity. He could have send photo of his paintings to different colleges and university and I am sure he would have got a scholarship to pay for his tuition.

Given that his grades was not good and he almost flunked 12th grade, but with little push from his teachers and parents he could easily become eligible for scholarship in one of fancy Art schools in Chicago, NY or LA.

With painting like this, schools probably would have fought each other trying to recruit JJ into their school.

Even for an ART school, one would need good grades from other classes. Otherwise, getting in art school would be a breeze for many creative people.

Although good grades is required for majority of scholarships, but there are also other criteria for scholarship eligibility such as financial need and/or extracurricular activities (such as painting a mural for bank).

JJ would have made a good student in a 4 year art school since only 1/3 of classes are non art related. And 2/3 are art related classes which JJ probably would have made A in those classes.

I blame that on the bank manger. JJ was there for whole week painting, and manger could have take a peek once in a while to see what he was painting.

But I agree the painting was not appropriate for the bank. That painting would have been more appropriate somewhere in the back alley where are the OGs (original gangsters) hang out :D

Hmm. Thinking about it, the reason that JJ didn't go to College is because his would be College years coincided around the same time that James suddenly died. JJ chose to WORK as defacto Man Of The House to provide for the Family (The Episode he became a Gambling Bookie after being Denied Unemployment is a prime example).
