Gina Carano (https://www.primetimer.com/people/gina-carano) has been dropped (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/lhathc/gina_carano_star_wars_she_is_no_longer_part_of/) from “The Mandalorian” (https://www.primetimer.com/shows/star-wars-the-mandalorian) after the actress posted “abhorrent” posts on her social media (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/the-mandalorian-star-gina-carano-fired-amid-social-media-controversy).
The former MMA fighter played Cara Dune on the series for the first two seasons of the hit Disney+ show.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm (https://www.primetimer.com/subjects/lucasfilm) and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” said Lucasfilm spokesperson in a statement to TheWrap.
Carano came under fire on Wednesday as the hashtag #FireGinaCarano trended over an Instagram post (https://www.cbr.com/mandalorian-fire-gina-carano-republic-jew-comparison/) comparing being Republican today to being Jewish during Nazi Germany.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” wrote Carano.
The Mandalorian could easily go on without Gina Carano's Cara Dune (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/02/mandalorian-cara-dune-gina-carano-fired-1234616477/)
Carano's firing from the Disney+ Star Wars series over her "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts "means her Mandalorian character Cara Dune will either be recast with a new actress or written out of the show completely," says Zack Sharf. "Given that Cara Dune was a supporting character with no major story threads dangling after the season two finale, removing her from the larger Star Wars narrative is not as big of a headache as it sounds. Cara Dune is used rather sparingly in The Mandalorian, not appearing in every episode (she didn’t appear in Season 2 until the fourth episode, for instance) and most often functioning as a sidekick for Mando in episodic adventures. Take her out of any of the Season 2 episodes where she does appear, and the story would barely change at all. Cara’s utilization in The Mandalorian makes her one of the more expendable characters, so writing her out wouldn’t be a challenge and wouldn’t be too jarring."

Hawkee 02-11-2021, 03:06 AM My mom told me about this and with Gina Carano gone from The Mandalorian I can bet the show will go downhill and lose ratings. What I think will happen is that they will put WWE star Sasha Banks in her place and let Sasha's character have more screentime in The Mandalorian but I think Gina should apologize to Disney for doing this to her and most likely she will come back on The Mandalorian as a guest star

Gina Carano says "they can’t cancel us if we don’t let them" in her first comments since her firing from The Mandalorian (https://deadline.com/2021/02/gina-carano-mandalorian-ben-shapiro-hits-back-cancel-culture-1234692971/)
Carano revealed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ibQ--jnK7w) she is making (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/gina-carano-hits-back-announces-new-movie-project-with-ben-shapiro%E2%80%99s-daily-wire.4392489/) a movie with conservative pundit Ben Shapiro's The Daily Wire. Without mentioning her firing (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMandalorianTV/comments/lhbk2k/gina_carano_no_longer_a_part_of_lucasfilm/), Carano told Deadline today: "The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Hi, Bestie! I know Disney has lost me by firing her. Pedro did the same thing on twitter and he still has a job, because they liked what he posted. This has caused me to cancel my Disney+ account as I cannot support firing people because you do not agree with them politically. This cancel culture has got to stop before we become a police state where all we do is snitch on people we don't like.

Hasbro reportedly cancels Gina Carano's Cara Dune The Mandalorian action figure following her firing (https://www.thewrap.com/gina-carano-cara-dune-mandalorian-figure-canceled-hasbro)
"We have been informed by Hasbro that they have canceled production of the Star Wars: The Black Series 6” Cara Dune," read a statement from retailer Big Bad Toy Store that was posted on Twitter (https://twitter.com/TheComixKid/status/1360358717695303683). Hasbro has yet to confirm the cancelation. Lucasfilm fired Carano on Wednesday for "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts.

Or, he's the well liked and respected star of an extremely popular show, and she is a barely recurring cast member who can barely act her way out of a paper bag. Cara Dune could be easily recast, or they could just rework her lines and give them to other characters. I'd personally like to see more of Timothy Olyphant, Amy Sedaris, and Ming-Na Wen. You know, real actors.
Gina Carano says she learned of her Mandalorian firing from social media, reveals she was pulled from Season 2 press after refusing to post studio apology (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/02/disney-gina-carano-mandalorian-press-refused-apology-1234617200/)
In an interview with former New York Times writer Bari Weiss' Substack (https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/gina-carano-and-crowd-sourced-mccarthyism), Carano says she learned of last week's firing from Lucasfilm from social media. Carano also revealed that Lucasfilm asked her to release a company-written apology statement after her transgender pronoun controversy last fall. “Earlier on last year before The Mandalorian came out, they wanted me to use their exact wording for an apology over pronoun usage,” Carano said, according to Indiewire. “I declined and offered a statement in my own words. I made clear I wanted nothing to do with mocking the transgender community, and was just drawing attention to the abuse of the mob in forcing people to put pronouns in their bio.” She says her refusal resulted in her being yanked from Season 2 press. “That was heartbreaking, but I didn’t want to take away from the hard work of everyone who worked on the project, so I said ok,” Carano added. “That was the last time I was contacted about any type of public statement or apology from Lucasfilm. I found out through social media, like everyone else, that I had been fired.” ALSO: Hasbro confirms it has scrapped Carano's Cara Dune Star Wars action figure (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/hasbros-gina-carano-star-wars-figures-scrapped).
Gina Carano's Cara Dune Mandalorian character may or may not be recast (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/behind-disneys-firing-of-mandalorian-star-gina-carano)
The Hollywood Reporter details the behind-the-scenes controversy that led to Carano's firing for her controversial social media posts last week. "Insiders say Cara Dune wasn’t part of the Star Wars series next up, a Boba Fett spinoff, but expect that the character will be recast down the road, for both story and merchandising reasons," says The Hollywood Reporter. "A source at Lucasfilm says that a recasting is not expected, however." The Hollywood Reporter says that in the months leading up to Disney's investor day presentation on Dec. 10, Carano's agents at UTA were negotiating for her to receive a "sizable bump" to star in her own Star Wars spinoff series. She was making between $25,000 to $50,000 per episode of The Mandalorian. But the Carano-led spinoff was never announced when Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed 10 new Star Wars shows. After her firing, UTA dropped Carano. "The decision to banish Carano from the Disney kingdom went higher than Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and was made by Lucasfilm executives," reports The Hollywood Reporter. "Carano, sources say, had repeatedly been warned by those around her about her social media behavior, with the actress even noting publicly in September that her Mandalorian co-star Pedro Pascal, who has a trans sibling, educated her about the use of pronouns after a social media flare-up."
Disney+ says Gina Carano's The Mandalorian Cara Dune character won't be recast (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/02/lucasfilm-recast-gina-carano-cara-dune-mandalorian-1234617377)
A Disney spokesperson tells Indiewire Cara Dune won't be recast after The Hollywood Reporter said that insiders expected the character to be recast (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Gina-Caranos-Cara-Dune-Mandalorian-character-may-or-may-not-be-recast-a0Sd46) "down the road, for both story and merchandising reasons."
Gina Carano accuses Disney+ and Lucasfilm of "bullying," says she felt "head-hunted" before her Mandalorian firing (https://deadline.com/2021/02/gina-carano-interview-details-mandalorian-exit-ben-shapiro-daily-wire-1234697380/)
The former Cara Dune actress has given her first on-camera interview since last week's firing to conservative Ben Shapiro's The Ben Shapiro Show after signing a movie deal with him. “You know how boxers head-hunt sometimes and forget to go for the body?" says Carano in the interview, which will be released on Sunday, previewed to Deadline. "I feel like Disney or Lucasfilm or whoever it is, just certain people at that company…I feel like I’ve been being head-hunted (…) and you can feel it. Just a couple of weeks ago, Lucasfilm asked an artist that they employ to erase my character and put a different character in place, and he proudly announces this on Twitter, and erases my character and puts another character in place. All the fans of Cara Dune were just outraged. They were like ‘Why didn’t you add the character? Why did you have to take off the character? Is there something wrong? Is Gina getting fired?”
Gina Carano describes herself as "not a hateful person," says Disney accidentally sent her a revealing email before her Mandalorian firing (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/02/gina-carano-ben-shapiro-disney-email-1234618350/)
Carano gave her first post-firing interview to The Ben Shapiro Show a week after announcing she was collaborating with Shapiro on a movie. "’ve got every single big publication saying she’s comparing conservatives and Republicans to this and that’s not really what I was doing… I have love for everyone; I’m not a hateful person," she said of the posts that ultimately led to her firing. Carano says she also was tipped off via an email that Disney was following the #FireGinaCarano movement. “They accidentally sent me an email, which was very enlightening, so I knew. I knew they were paying attention," she said. "I know there were some people who went to bat for me, but I know that they didn’t win out at the end."
Bill Burr rails against cancel culture in reacting to his Mandalorian colleague Gina Carano's firing (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/03/bill-burr-gina-carano-mandalorian-firing-1234620604/)
“It’s a weird time….Unless she did some truly horrible s*** or said overtly racist s***,” Burr said about Carano on The Bill Bert Podcast, according to Indiewire. “I don’t know. I think there is just too many channels. And then you gotta do sensational s***…I don’t know what the f*** it is. I’m on that f***ing show. Now, I gotta watch what the f*** I say.” Burr added: “She was an absolute sweetheart. Super nice f***ing person. And you know whatever and somehow someone will take this video and they’ll make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure…It’s how it is out there. It’s f***ing crazy times. People just waiting, laying in the weeds.”
Disney CEO Bob Chapek defends Gina Carano's firing from Star Wars: The Mandalorian, saying it was about values and not politics (https://deadline.com/2021/03/disney-ceo-bob-chapek-gina-carano-mandalorian-pedro-pascal-disney-plus-1234710139/)
Chapek said today during a shareholders meeting he doesn’t “really see Disney as characterizing itself as left-leaning or right-leaning” after a stockholder accused the company of having a double standard following Carano's firing last month over controversial social media posts. According to Deadline, Chapek didn’t speak to the Carano incident directly but said Disney stands “for values that are universal: respect, decency, integrity and inclusion and we seek to have the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world we live in. And I think that’s a world we should all live in harmony and peace.”

Disney+'s Running Wild with Bear Gryllis reportedly won't air its already-filmed Gina Carano episode (https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2564722/a-gina-carano-tv-appearance-was-reportedly-removed-from-disney-schedule-after-her-mandalorian-firing)
Carano had posted about filming (https://twitter.com/ginacarano/status/1345464699182202880) with Grylls before her firing from The Mandalorian. But her episode isn't part of Running Wild's TV guide. Disney+ has yet to comment.
Lucy Lawless says the fan campaign for her to replace Gina Carano on The Mandalorian hurt her chances of joining a different Star Wars project (https://www.indiewire.com/2021/09/lucy-lawless-mandalorian-fan-campaign-replace-gina-carano-backfired-1234668366/)
Lawless tells Metro UK (https://metro.co.uk/2021/09/27/lucy-lawless-on-fans-wanting-her-to-replace-gina-carano-in-mandalorian-1532509) she was already in talks for another Star Wars project before Carano's firing. “Well to be honest with you, I was already in discussions about something on — it wasn’t The Mandalorian — something Star Wars-affiliated,’ Lawless said. “(The fan campaign) might have hurt me in some way, because then (Lucasfilm) couldn’t hire me because it would seem to be pandering to…I’m just guessing here, I don’t know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?”
Bill Burr recalls how shaving his head bald jump-started his standup career, denounces Gina Carano's "f***ing bizarre" firing from The Mandalorian (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/bill-burr-interview-career-snl-gina-carano-1235134000/)
In a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Burr says his career hit a standstill when he was 37. So he decided to make two key changes: 1) Stop working clean and 2) Shave his head. “There’s a pressure: Hollywood likes hair, so you’ve got to look this way or that way,” he says. “That’s when I said, ‘You know what? F*** all of this. If I’m going, I’m going to go down swinging, and I might as well swing the way I want to.'" He adds: “I buzzed my head and I looked like the a**hole that I was. That’s when I became OK with me. All of a sudden, I started getting cooler opportunities.” Meanwhile, Burr was asked if Carano's firing from The Mandalorian for promoting Donald Trump's debunked 2020 election fraud claims and seemingly mocked transgender pronouns was fair. “No,” he says. “I thought it was funny that the liberals proved her point. They just use outrage because they don’t like your politics. As someone who considers himself liberal, it’s disappointing to see the left become how the right used to be when they went after the Dixie Chicks after they criticized George W. Bush. There’s not a lot of people like that — most are just trying not to get in trouble — but there’s this small collection of lunatics — either on the right or the left, at any given moment – that cause hysteria. And now there’s so many (media outlets) that want eyeballs, they make money off advertising, that they give attention to these crazy fringe people." Burr adds: "The whole thing with Gina: You can’t chime in when the ****’s happening, because then you cause static for other people on the (show). That somebody’s opinion — or their political beliefs — makes people try to destroy their ability to make a living, it’s f***ing bizarre to me.”
