Some background (https://www.sagaftra.org/about/our-history/1980s#:~:text=Strike%3A%20SAG%2FAFTRA%20TV%2D,strike%2C%20and%20the%20Guild's%205th.):
Strike: SAG/AFTRA TV-Theatrical Strike (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hollywood_strikes) begins July 21 for SAG (https://www.csmonitor.com/1980/0724/072454.html) and June 22 for AFTRA over contract terms including profit participation for performers in Pay-TV, video disc and video cassettes. It is AFTRA’s third national strike (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9u0vlZFjq8kJ:https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1980/09/18/breakthrough-on-key-issue-in-actors-strike/0eb17019-9a96-4d4d-93c5-347d2abe94d9/+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us), and the Guild’s 5th.
If I have my facts straight, SAG-AFTRA were separate at that time. Soaps have always used AFTRA actors so it was probably a SAG strike. Also, most soaps were based in New York, but the actors strike was in Los Angeles.
