This is your forum and so it's in your interest to speak up for yourselves when challenged, and also for others who participate on this board, if and when you believe that they have been unfairly attacked by a poster. In the 'Pledge' thread one poster, Jimbo, labeled me a bully to the young people on the board, and a friend to the Ku Klux Klan. I emphatically came to my own defense about the manipulative and atrocious accusation regarding the Ku Klux Klan. But, I was disappointed that I had to go it alone. Some squabbles are not worth entering into but there is a line, and with that accusation it was as completely crossed as is possible to do. If any of you were insulted to such a venemous degree, and I were to read it, I would have come to your defense, as I have on occasion. I would not have let it pass and I would have chastised the offender for the sake of the individual who was attacked, and for the sake of the civility needed to maintain a decorum that we can all be comfortable with.

I helped raise my two daughters. From the time that they were very young I treated them with respect and took them seriously when they voiced their opinons. I challenged them to explain their thoughts and elaborate. With sincerity, I listened and conversed and they inturn challenged me in the same way. They're grown now, and partly because of that respectful upbringing our 'father to daughters' relationship includes being very close friends and confidants. I know they would tell you all that I was in no way a bully to them. And, I'll defend myself once again, I am not a bully to the young people on this board. I simply treat you all like thinking people and challenge you to back up what you express. I'm not posting this only to defend myself, but also to bring to your attention that what goes on here, you all are responsible for. If you don't challenge someone who unfairly and maliciously invokes the Ku Klux Klan into the conversation, and then has the nerve to go on and call the person who he has insulted, a bully, you're allowing lies and manipulation to degrade this forum to what some would feel to be intollerably rancorous. So, you might want to take this opportunity to ... speak up!

Because if i even tried to defend myself, hes get mad, because in his world hes the only one whos right.

I was thinking of replying to the Pledge thread again last night, but I wanted to think of the right thing to say. Instead of putting it over there, I would like to put it here. I don't think it would really matter which topic I posted this in, because I think it could fit in any topic.

Every person on here has a brain and an opinion. I don't know about everybody else on here, but isn't it boring if you have a hundred people and they think the same way as you do? I like to have those topics like the Pledge and the God thread because of the fact that so many people post and we all have different opinions on it.

I really hate it when someone posts a reply to a post hassling the poster because they don't agree with the above opinion. I don't think Kitt is trying to brainwash anybody. I think Kitt posts all the articles because of the fact that most of the members on this board are relatively young, and when it comes to subjects like politics and such- so I think he posts those articles and things to help the people that would like to reply to something but just doesn't know much about the topic.

I can be quite a stubborn person myself. If I know exactly what my opinion is on one certain subject than I don't think anybody could change it. I still like to read the different opinions and thinking, that the person has proven a really good point and that sticks in my mind along with my opinion.

Like I've said before, I see everybody on this board as an adult. Most of the people on this board are fun loving people that usually doesn't get into too many battles. I enjoy chatting with many of you on here, so I would hate to see anybody leave because someone pissed them off in a topic or 3 or 4 topics.

I hope this sounds okay, and doesn't make anybody think I'm trying to put on airs or anything. I think I've said everything I wanted to say, and I hope this wasn't too long.

Well, see, the only thing is, kittflynn, when I do that...it doesn't seem like people understand me...ya know? You should know, because half the people who posted just said they didn't get your post...maybe they just Don't LISTEN to me...who knows...but see, i got into a "discussion" with someone once, i tried to apologize a few times, and I tried to explain myself a few times, but see, that person was just too stubborn to READ what I said...otherwise they would have had the reason for the things that they kept posting over and over and over again.I think, from now on, unless someone badmouths Mrs. G...I'll just keep my mouth shut...and my keyboard quiet...

Well kittflynn, I'm sorry if you felt that no one came to your defense in the "Pledge" thread. I thought you held your end of the argument very well, and therefore didn't need any help. Your opinions were duly noted when we traded posts about the subject, and I thought you argued your points very well.

I do like the fact that there are many threads devoted to miscellaneous subjects other than sitcoms, but perhaps the subject matter becomes a bit too personal for some folks. Feelings can get hurt and people sometimes make unfair accusations or say the wrong things.

Perhaps to avoid any more slanderous remarks, we should stick to the subject matter that this message board was designed for.

It is Televison, right?

I always thought it was for everyday Chit Chat. Anything can be discussed at any time by anyone. Not just TV.

I usually do come to the defense of people being unfairly attacked- when I know of it. I'm afraid I never read what Jimbo said to you.

Well, I do hope that there are more tolerant people on these boards so we don't have to stand up for ourselves often. But you know, Kitt has a point and I found nothing wrong with what he said. No one needs to be made to feel bad just because they have a different opinion. I think the political and religion type topics are healthy for good debate. No slander allowed.

Well the General Board leans more towards TV and this is for Off Topic posts. So we're actually staying On Topic by being Off Topic. Get it? Hope I didn't confuse you. LOL

This board is for anything but tv... there was even a post about not posting Sitcom related topics here a few days ago by TJ.

Amen! It's summer. My brain has been on vacation since Spring Break. I have trouble comprehending two syllable words, yet along FOUR syllable words that aren't even spoken in my language...or don't seem to be anyway? It's all just so confusing. I only have five more weeks to be legally dumb...let me enjoy it.

Kitt, I discontinued reading the Pledge post after the first day because it just became too much for me to keep up with. I wasn't aware someone had personally attacked you. If I had known I would have done my best to defend you-even if it would have been with only with one syllabel words. I read some of your posts about the topic and I know you were just standing up for what you believe. I'm sorry you felt you were personally attacked and if it happens again I'll do my best to use all the one syllabel words in my vocabulary and defend your rights to state your opinion.

Kitt--I'm sorry you felt abandoned. What astonishes me are those who hit below the belt even after you stated that you felt that nobody defended you (and you know who you are).
I say hip hip hurray for Kitt, really. :)
ps--I guess the old adage about religion and politics being hot topics is true. With the Pledge issue, it combined the two, which made for an extremely volatile discussion.
I also enjoyed the article that you posted. Thank you.

Well, that was a gamut of replies. For JoJoJo, that means, 'a wide variety'- lol. Some of you all sure are ornery cusses. Especially that one that said no over 20 somethngs allowed. Geez, that's a tough rule, don't you think? Anyway, if this was a real life meeting place instead of a message board, and words weren't the only tool to a guy could use stop someone from lying about them, I would have just done what I know Amanda would've advised me to do, which would have been to just kick Jimbo's ass, and let it go at that. lol

Kitt: I hope you haven't left 'cause of this. I haven't been here for a few days. Anyway, I completely agree that defending your opinions is important, no matter what the situation is. But some people's retorts to your opinions aren't worth your time, such as this case. Did you make an anti-semetic remark? I don't think you did, so obviously this person doesn't know what they're talking about. Sometimes, for whatever reasons, people would rather name call than to state valid reasons why they disagree with you. (Usually, 'cause they can't think of any other way to express it) It's best to just ignore them, rather than fan their flames. In some cases, people just post crap to anger others 'cause that's how they get their kicks. Whatever.
I don't quite know what the rules are here on personal attacks such as name calling, but it's in my forum experience that it is best to email a moderator with your concern rather than fight back.
Also, consider the source of the remark. JoJoJoł's right. A lot of people here are teenagers. Does that mean us older folk can't express our views? Of course not! Just try to think of the mentality of the poster in question. Not everyone is as politically savvy as we are. ;) (I find I agree with you on a lot of issues, BTW. Just thought I'd let you know.)
Just relax and try not to let things said here get you stressed. It's really not worth it. :)

Kitt, that is absolutely horrible what Jimbo said to you! I didn't see it or surely I would have come screaming to your defense (I've been away from the boards...away from the Internet all together, actually, for about 2 weeks now....) I mean it's one thing to call someone a liberal jerk, or an a-hole or something equally unpleasant, but it is a whole 'nother ballgame to accuse someone of cohorting with white supremists.

But we all know that Jimbo would rather use baseless personal attacks than logical discussion any old day. So be it, it only makes him look silly. And I, like JanLady, also can't fathom the people who feel the need to kick you when you are down. Whatever happened to "if you can't say something nice, don't say nuthin' at all". Some people here need to go watch Bambi. ;)
