I was playing video games and I found a video game version of a board game called Othello and i'm curious to know more about Othello and how it's played? I know that Othello was also the name of a character from a Shakespeare play and I never knew there was a board game with this name. Is Othello played like checkers or backgammon or is it like Connect Four?

If you have an older version of Microsoft Windows, you might already know how to play it; the game "Reversi" used to come with Windows, and it's identical to Othello.

It's played with 64 coins that are black on one side and white on the other. The game is played on an 8x8 grid starting with 2 coins showing black and 2 showing white in the middle of the board, with the rest of the coins split between the black player and the white player. You alternate turns trying to surround as many of the other team's coins as you can with your played coin. The ones surrounded are then flipped over. This keeps going until all of the coins are played, and the player with the most coins showing their color at the end wins.

The main strategy is to try to control the four corner squares, since those are impossible to flip. If you have those, it's difficult (though not impossible) for the other player to prevail.
