View Full Version : Signature ettiquette!
The signature situation is starting to become ridiculous (ok it has been for months, but now I'm taking action). I don't want to have to disable them entirely or enforce a signature length rule, so please try and follow the below guidelines:
1) 1 or 2 photos at the most.. some of you have alot more then that.. not everybody is fortunate enough to have a dsl line or cable modem.. there are lots of 56k people out there so please be considerate
2) if the photo(s) you have in your signature is large, try and reduce it in height/width and file size in Paint Shop Pro or another one of those programs
3) try and keep your signature to 10-15 lines or less (I emphasize the word less).. if you have to scroll more then half a page of a signature that is crazy.. plus if you just have a one line reply and a huge signature that makes no sense
4) probably the most important thing you can do: POST YOUR SIGNATURE one time per topic.. it doesn't need to be posted 4-5 times in the same topic
5) you can go to the user cp/edit options and set it so your signature doesn't display every post.. so you can just make the checkmark for the first time you are posting a topic or reply
Feel free to add to this list for other suggestions to keep this under control.

From a 56K user, THANK YOU!!!
I like the creativity in the signatures, but you're right. When there is just a "yeah, I agree" type line and then 1/2 page of signature, it gets a little old. Plus, trying to wait for all the things to download takes some time.
I like the idea of having a signature just once in a post. That way, the reader can see it, but it just doesn't need to be seen over and over and over and over...
Thanks again! :D
ABlairican Pie 07-07-2002, 04:39 PM I agree about signatures. One of the reasons why I don't get so much into the Continuation posts is that it gets so confusing with
long signatures and pictures, some of these things are very hard to read or pay attention to--especially every time someone makes
a post. I'm talking about the VERRRRRY long signatures and HUGE pictures.
MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 07-07-2002, 11:43 PM Is mine too long?
Nancy McKeon is my idol!! 07-08-2002, 10:22 AM Is mine too long?

I'd say it like this...
if you are unsure if it is too long, then it probably is...
ABlairican Pie 07-08-2002, 01:14 PM Lizzie's isn't, and some people's aren't, some quotes and photos are okay, but I know SOME people (not saying who...) who
have verrrrrrrrry long signatures that take up over half a page.

You'll be happy to see I trimmed mine down. It's even shorter than yours! :D

Hmmm... so is it a contest now to see who can fit the most in the smallest space? :D

 LOL no. I was just kidding. ;)
jayman75 07-08-2002, 06:55 PM Right....
I can take my signature to 5 lines...
(semi-Let's Make A Deal-type thing)

-*Forever*- 07-09-2002, 12:37 PM Mine looks tremendously large compared to some of yours, but I really love mine and Mossopp has assured me that it's fine... waiting for TJ's approval tho. Mine fits inside the guidelines, but my pic makes it seem very large. However, it took awhile to find the pic, I resized it so it's a little smaller.... I hope it's ok. What do y'all think?
I think its ok, just don't go asking me to change your name to Sharon Osbourne! ;)

 Actually, I have absolutely no intention of changing my name @ all... which is weird, cos I normally do! I guess I really like this one n wanna stick with it, which is good!
ABlairican Pie 07-09-2002, 03:11 PM Why do I have a feeling that more people are fans of the Osbournes show than of the man's music??
Trivia quiz:
1. Name Ozzy's first band.
2. Name any one of their songs.
3. Name the very talented guitar player of his first solo band in the 80's.
4. Name the guitarist who replaced him after his tragic death.
5. Name any one of Ozzy's songs as a solo artist.
6. Name Ozzy's current guitarist.
Let's see how many REAL Ozzy fans are out there...
ABlairican Pie 07-09-2002, 03:21 PM Btw, since I don't have cable yet (I don't even have a t.v.!!), can anyone tell me if or when "the Osbournes" will be on in summer reruns on MTV??
Also, do you think we should have an "Osbournes"-like t.v. show
with Lisa and her family called "The Caubles"??
Can you imagine the merchandising for that...

I'm bumping this back up because it needs to be reviewed again. There are people who need to look at this, especially numbers 4 & 5. I have a 56K modem, but there are times when it takes 30 seconds to load all the graphics and such.
PLEASE!!!!! Look this over!!!!!!!!
TVJunkie101 10-14-2002, 10:40 AM I also have a 56k modem, and it does take a while for some signatures to load; most I've seen are fine, but a few just go on and on with quote after quote, tons of pictures, etc.
Czas na Zywiec 10-14-2002, 11:29 AM Heh, heh. I surely hope you're not talking about me. ;)
