The episode where Bud is supposed to watch a car for a neighbor but is not supposed to drive it, and does anyway and thinks he wreck the car and the family joins together to "trick" the neighbor into thinking his car has been in the driveway the whole time he was gone.
I can't imagine the Cleavers doing that.

Agree. Not sure how the Cleaver adults would handle it, but definitely not by trying to fool the old man.
I kinda felt sorry for him when he was talking about how run-down his house was. Also the Andersons let him go right on thinking he had forgotten he had the damage repaired.

In today's LITB episodes, Wally conspired with Beaver to fake a reason to leave dancing school if things were not going well, which ultimately Wally cancelled when he grew fond of Penny.
While Ward was not above hiding out in the garage with a change of clothes for Beaver, deliberately behind the back of Aunt Martha, who had bought him a new suit.
So, clearly there is a will to deceive. Perhaps not on the criminal level of concealing damage to personal property, but they say that even the worst police corruption usually starts out innocently where the cop sees little harm when he just blows through a red light on his way to lunch, and things evolve from there.

The short pants episode, when Ward hides in the garage with the clothes change, is kind of like the pickle episode of TAGS. Going to great lengths to not hurt a well-meaning older relative. While it is deceitful, the goal is ultimately worthy.
There are risks--suppose the "protected" person somehow finds out. The whole thing backfires, and more damage is done than if one had been forthright in the first place.
Is it worth the risk?

That's just "spin"...is it not? :grineyes::grineyes:
Afterall, Ward not only deceived Aunt Martha, but he subverted her wish to have Beaver project the Bronson image.

Good point, it's amazing the extent we will often go, to forgive a beloved hero, only to go to unconscionable length to hold a perceived villain accountable...for the same kind of sin.
