Flowers for Algeron

My mind has just went blank, but at least its a list. :)
Swimfan85 07-07-2002, 12:56 AM anyone recommend any good books?
-*Forever*- 07-07-2002, 01:23 AM To anyone who hasn't read it yet, I reccomend The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. I just started it tonight, I'm on page 34, but it's awesome so far. I've seen the movie though, so maybe it means more if you've seen it.... hmm.
vienna waits 07-07-2002, 01:27 AM The Prayer of Jabez... I'm about done.. it's short but I haven't been reading it often. Suppososly it's life changing.. haven't tried it yet though since I'm not done with it.
80sTrivia 07-07-2002, 08:42 AM Right now, I'm reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It's a fantastic book! I've been really caught up in the tale of a young girl who is assaulted and murdered and goes to her own personal version of heaven, where she's able to watch over her family as they mourn her death and try to move on with their own lives. It's lyrical and touching and I would recommend it to anyone! :)
Kay Scarpetta 07-07-2002, 11:07 AM I personally like anything by Patricia Cornwell. That's if you like mysteries....these are hardcore blood-dead body-gory mysteries. Great ones.

Montana Ponine 07-07-2002, 12:40 PM Well, I tried Little Women, but only got halfway through. It was good so far, though, and I'll probably try to finish it up some other time... If i ever go back to the library anytime soon...
I'm currently reading "The Great Gatsby" for school. It is a pretty interesting book I must admit. Next on the list is "Moby Dick,"
for school of course, and that has to be one of the largest books I've ever had to read. ugh...:(
I enjoy reading mystery books though. Particularly Mary Higgins Clark books;)

I've been on page eighteen of that book for the longest time. I don't know if I'll ever try to read it all or not, but at least I made it that far I reckon...

TALLguyinKY 07-07-2002, 06:39 PM I highly recommend the following:
"The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis
(comprised of: "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe",
"Prince Caspian",
"The Voyage of the Dawn Treader",
"The Silver Chair",
"The Horse and His Boy",
"The Magician's Nephew",
and "The Last Battle")
LWW, SC, and HHB are my 3 favorites, but they're all wonderful, beautifully written, with good elements of fantasy and spirituality mixed together flawlessly.
And "Gods in Everyman" and "Goddesses in Everywoman" by Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen.
These 2 books are pscyhology books that take each of the major Greek gods and goddesses and look at 'em as "personality profiles" if you will (a.k.a. "archetypes"), and, you people it is scary if you find a god or goddess with which you heavily identify!
I mean, I am soooooo Dionysus, it is like I'm readin' a biography about myself---awesome stuff!! Each chapter focuses on one entity, and looks at areas like:
the god's mythology
basic character makeup
person's early years (for this particular god-type)
parents
adolescence and early adulthood
work
sexuality
marriage
children
later years
psychological problems
solutions
I mean, it is just awesome, and you'll always go back to re-read parts, whether to look at "yourself", or to analyze your friends and family---great, great fun stuff!! :D

She's Come Undone. It was such a good book! I've been wanting to read it for like a year and I never had time. But I finished it like a couple of weeks ago. I seriously recommend this. It's about a girl growing up and going through bad times and good times and everything. It was really good. By Wally Lamb.
I'm going to read White Oleander this week.
Has anyone read The Perks of Being A Wallflower? I heard it's good.
LaverneShirley 07-08-2002, 10:39 PM It's technically a play, but oh well.. I'm currently reading An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde. It's really good, very interesting... although at present I am in the mood to murder Mrs. Chevely.
