View Full Version : Molly Parker would be very pround of Molly Ringwald.
80s Dude 01-08-2021, 01:54 PM Molly Parker would love this Instagram post by Molly Ringwald where Molly R. used the term "She-ro" to describe a female hero.

RetroGuy2000 01-08-2021, 01:57 PM "Good girl!" I mean, woman!
'80sSitcoms 01-08-2021, 02:32 PM She also shared a "poster meme" of the republicans who still challenged the election after Wednesday's events. Molly Parker indeed!
I wonder if Molly Ringwald already had inclinations of her political views when she was playing Molly Parker, or if the character of Molly Parker influenced her, or if perhaps it was simply a coincidence.

I think she had them back. Then she talked in interviews in the mid 80s about her parents telling her to stand up for beliefs. While she never mentioned anything about Joan Biaz outside of the show, she is a fan of Bob Dylan. An unsual interest for a teenage girl back then. She also talked about not wanting to be dependant on a man to provide for her then.
She would not be the only one on Facts of Life to have their character designed after their interests and personality. Nancy O. inherited lots of Felice's interests and characteristics. The high IQ, the interest in ballet and Baryshnikov. Julie Anne was a tomboy as was Cindy. Lisa said Mindy was the one of the Core Four to be like her character.

Unfortunatetly the Baryshnikov thing was a big waste for a Nancy interest. It was only in a teaser, the dialogue was given to Blair, Nancy didn't even get a line (surprise, surprise), and the focus was on a group of girls, not on Nancy being the one to have "the big Baryshnikov crush".
They could have written a whole storyline about that, since the writers picked up on Nancy being boycrazy. But, alas, they went to Blair and Sue Ann scripts.
RetroGuy2000 01-08-2021, 03:24 PM Yeah, imagine bringing up someone like Baryshnikov, as part of your interests, and then seeing another girl get those lines!
At least Felice did get to meet Baryshnikov... and his sweater.

Right?? But I guess she was used to it by then!

That is maybe the best FOL "backstage story" from all 9 years! The way she tells it!!

I don't think you could ever get used to it.
Producer: Now, Felice. Tell me a little bit more about your interests. We want to work real-life interests into these characters.
Felice: Well, okay. I like to ride horseback, I like Emily Dickinson, and most of all I love Baryshnikov.
Producer: These are great! We'll be working them into Blair's scripts shortly.
Felice:

Yes, it's a great story. I like her self-deprecating humor when she realizes she's... stolen someone's sweater!
(Oh, do you think that's why she was Nancied? She got in trouble for theft?)

Well, I was being outlandish with that conclusion, hence my "!", lol.

I'd like to change "Producer" to "Pretending to Care Producer", lol.

Yes! And show she remembers the juvenile intensity of her feelings, and realizing how "crazy" she was when she slept with it and she knew it was "crazy"!
(Oh, do you think that's why she was Nancied? She got in trouble for theft?)
Oh wow...folks, we have a whole new FOL theory now!
IF so, perhaps she was kind of ostracized by the producers, in an unspoken way... :lookaroun

Felice did say she went to the producers to ask what happened to her character. Maybe she was one of the girls that one guy said was whining about her role.
As for the other characters, the only one who was semi-developed from The Girls School was Blair. They changed her from smoking because Lisa objected to that while still retaining her high society snobbishness. Nancy O. went from wanting to be an actress to wanting to be a psychiatrist. Sue Ann went from being dumb blonde to wholesome naive farm girl.
None of the other characters had no development in the girls school. Molly was a fast talker, but was not the Greta Thunberg of the day yet plus to be some of the nerd of things were her hobbies in real life.
Tootie didn't become a gossiping money obsessed capitalist. Of course we had no Cindy, Natalie, Mr. Bradley, Miss Mahoney yet. I still think they thought about having Jennifer as the somewhat plus size girl before discovering Mindy.
Lorimar Television 01-08-2021, 05:53 PM That’s our Molly we know and love!
Impressions 01-10-2021, 11:57 AM Molly was literally like her character in FOL. So this doesn't surprise me.
