So sorry to hear of Dawn's passing, and to know it was from Covid... :(:(:(

There is so much fake information about Covid you have to do a little digging to check the facts. MA posted this about Dawn in September of 2018:

"Gilligan's Island" star Dawn Wells hopes that fans of the beloved show might help her out of a financial jam.

TMZ reports that the actress best known for playing Mary Ann on the iconic show is about $200,000 in debt, an apparent result of medical bills and investment losses.

A friend has now launched a GoFundMe so that the former TV star can move to an assisted care facility, "hopefully in the motion picture home that she likes," the GoFundMe page says.

The pal says Dawn has had some difficult health battles of late. She spent last year recovering from a major surgery that "came close to killing her," the page says, and she also broke her knee earlier this year.

According to the GoFundMe page, Dawn said, "I just don't know what happened! I thought I would be just fine, but apparently I'm not. I've found myself with no home, husband or kids. I thank God every day that I have friends and fans who care or this whole thing would be too overwhelming!"

And Tina Louise hates being associated with this show, so the idea of being the last surviving member of Gilligan's Island can't exactly make her too happy.

Do you think that Tina has actually mellowed about Gilligan’s Island over the past 20 years or so? She may have accepted the reality that it might not have lead to career progress or wealth, it was and is an amazing cultural phenomenon. It lead to more lasting fame for all of then than could have been imagined.

Then there was that Roseanne episode (https://gilligan.fandom.com/wiki/Roseanne) that featured all of the then surviving cast members. Tina was apparently, reluctant to do it, but Dawn Wells eventually talked her into it. She said when she arrived on set, the cast and crew were so overjoyed to see the Gilligan's Island cast there, and that's when it struck her that the show had meant so much to people and how fortunate she was to have been a part of it.

I thought I explained it, but I go over it in a little more detail. Dawn was a very sick woman, she had medical issues related to dementia, respiratory issues, and had been in failing health for some time as reported by the post from MA in 2018. To report as the Daily News out of New York did that "COVID takes a TV Legend" is a ridiculously inaccurate presentation of the facts. If a woman with a cold was run over by a truck, it wouldn't be reported as woman with cold dies. This does nothing but fan the flames of the Covid hysteria rather than giving fans time to remember her and her iconic performance as Mary Ann.

Thanks, doc! I was kinda worried, there, for a minute. I thought that Covid could actually kill people, but you've assured us that it has nothing to do with sepsis, organ failure, brain damage, lung damage, heart damage and exacerbating underlying health issues.

Okay, that seems like a valid point. I could also mention the fact that she didn't appear for the "Surviving Gilligan's Island" special, but somehow that doesn't seem like it would be enough.

Perhaps it was the fact that Bob Denver wrote about Tina and her fiancé waking him up during a sexual tryst in her dressing room when he was trying to take a nap in his autobiography? I don't know.

Next time try to get your facts straight before posting. Are you challenging the information concerning the health challenges Dawn had. They were reported by various sources including TMZ, AP.

I challenge you to site any statement I made that asserted COVID was hooey. Here are the facts related to the COVID survival rates from the CDC:

Age Survival Rate
0-19 99.997%
20-49 99.98%
50-69 99.5%
70+ 94.6%

Dawn was 82, she had very serious health challenges, she was residing in a health related facility anything from the common cold to a 24 hour virus could have been enough to end her life, if you want to question anything question how she was exposed in the first place.

Do yourself a favor stick to searching for "The Incredible World of Ed Norton".

That is true but her health issues were larger than that, this is from the TMZ report that MA posted:

To report as the Daily News out of New York did that "COVID takes a TV Legend" is a ridiculously inaccurate presentation of the facts.

Then, you say:

If a woman with a cold was run over by a truck, it wouldn't be reported as woman with cold dies. This does nothing but fan the flames of the Covid hysteria..

Look Quincy, you downplayed the role of Covid in Ms. Wells' sad death in your original post, likening the virus to a common cold in a false logic tautology. You're darn tootin' I'm gonna jump all over that with the /sarcasm tag! Further, your assertion that reporting a Covid death is fanning "the flames of Covid hysteria" suggests that you think it is not all that dangerous. And, considering your CDC "numbers" that you got from wherever you got them, you really do think that it is no big deal, dont'cha?

Then you ask:

Are you challenging the information concerning the health challenges Dawn had. They were reported by various sources including TMZ, AP.

Well, Dr. Zorba, TMZ reported, and I quote:

"Her rep says Dawn died from COVID Wednesday."

It's on their site:
https://www.tmz.com/2020/12/30/gilligans-island-star-dawn-wells-played-mary-ann-dead-dies-82-covid-19/

That is the health challenge that, ultimately, took Ms. Wells' life. Looks, to me, like you are challenging the reporting from (in this case and example) TMZ. Can we get more accurate than a direct quote from Ms. Wells' representative?

You failed to acknowledge the deadly consequence of the virus as it pertained to Ms. Wells, ignoring even the possibility of a co-morbidity, even though it was stated by Ms. Wells' rep that the virus was the cause of death. Your "facts", your CDC percentages do not apply and mean nothing to me as, in this case, the real fact is backed up by your precious TMZ.

So to that end, in your medical opinion, would you argue that TMZ is inaccurate in their reporting, just like you say the Daily News was?!

No one could have stopped the virus from coming into the United States.
COVID often (but not always) strikes people who already have health problems, as Dawn did. We really don’t know how much longer she would have lived if her health was as bad as the tabloids had reported. Dementia is irreversible.

Great advice, Doc! I wish I could find that show. Do you know where we can find a copy of "Incredible World of Ed Norton"? My pal Frank has tried every which way of Sunday to get the Gleason family to release that show.

The nasty tone of your post makes it difficult to take it seriously. The CDC numbers are CDC numbers and they are good news, the survival rates are outstanding. My point, stories related to the passing of Dawn should not play up the COVID angle, she was very ill.

Well, fair enough. But, get ready-- the media is doing it again, now with Larry King. And it will keep happening.

An appreciation of Dawn Wells: Gilligan's Island star's death leaves a small but not insignificant hole in the collective pop consciousness (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-12-30/dawn-wells-gilligans-island-mary-ann-appreciation)

Wells, who died (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/dawn-wells-dead-mary-ann-gilligans-island-was-82-1149549) last week of a COVID-19-related illness, was able to infuse Mary Ann with a memorable persona (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/30/arts/television/dawn-wells-dead.html) despite her scant back story that left her out of the original opening credits. "I watched a lot of Gilligan’s Island in my time, though my specific memories are few," says Robert Lloyd. "A bit with hammocks, somebody in an ape suit, and there must have been an episode where a rock band landed on the island, right? But my impressions of creator Sherwood Schwartz’s tropical 'Godot' remain strong. I know, at least, that I am a Mary Ann person, just as I am for the Beatles and Beatle Paul: the down-to-earth, relatable choice, more approachable, less wild. (No one ever adds Mrs. Howell into the question, or for that matter asks 'Gilligan or the Professor?' That’s a subject for another time we will never get around to.) Hollywood glamour is all right, but Ginger, one suspects, would grow bored and boring after a while. Mary Ann might ask you about yourself, where you came from, how you were doing, even if it were just to be polite. And politeness matters. With her Dorothy Gale-from-Kansas togs and pigtails, she was a pinup of a particularly wholesome sort (and Wells herself was a former Miss Nevada). But still waters run deep, or so we might imagine of her. Nothing ran very deep on the show itself." ALSO: Wells was always considerate of superfans, as she demonstrated on a 2019 episode of Netflix's Love on the Spectrum (https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/dawn-wells-dead-gilligans-island-love-on-the-spectrum-1234877123/).

It would also be good if they aired her playing other characters on other shows to the tribute.

It's just going to be Gilligan's Island only.

I felt like my tummy was hurting when I first saw this news. My first thoughts were: "NOOOOOOOOO! Dawn Wells cannot die of COVID-19! She shouldn't even have been suffering from COVID-19 in the first place! Why couldn't it have been from cancer or MS instead?".:crying:

If Ms. Wells was trying to adhere to the anti-COVID guidelines as much as possible, how could she still have contracted the Nightmare Virus? I just wish we had more answers on this, and I should just be very angry at this point.

I was fearing that we aren't going to get out of this pandemic without at least ONE main-cast member of a long-running TV series dying from this virus (I know Gilligan's Island wasn't a long-runner, but still...).

:rip: Dawn Wells, one of the best hotties of classic U.S. television.
