80sTrivia 12-22-2020, 10:10 AM Great photos! No wonder she would later be cast on The Facts of Life and would become "America's sweetheart" in the John Hughes films of the 1980s!

I wonder what it would be like if there was social media back then if she would have been America's sweetheart? Her Facts of Life social justice character carried over in real life and Molly Ringwald is not shy stating her opinion on things just like her Molly Parker charater.

Right?? Great finds!

And good for her!
RetroGuy2000 12-22-2020, 04:19 PM Awesome finds, 80s Dude! Such joyous pictures of Molly and her castmates. Looks like they had an amazing time.

Some people say that Molly looks miserable quite a bit of the time, but we saw from these pictures as well as the first season on the Facts of Life, she was a laughing and happy child.

Well, we know she had a miserable time in Season Two, because have her own words from 1986 and from more recent interviews. The question is if that miserable experience visibly affected her performance during her sole appearance that season.
I'm glad she was so happy in Annie, and glad, too, that that Golden Year and a Half happened for her on FOL. Of course, it's a rotten shame that NBC execs were apoplectic about the number of girls, and came to some weird conclusions. With some stronger scripts and some tinkering, the Molly Parker character really could have been a powerful role model for girls.
I have a question for you: You're in Toronto. Did you always live there? Did FOL air there on Canadian TV? Or were you getting FOL through US stations reaching the Toronto area? Sorry if you've answered these questions. I just don't remember what you said. I do know you watched the very first broadcasts.

The answer is easy. We get all the Buffalo station in the GTA. There is even a PBS station that is shared between Toronto and Buffalo.

I thought that was the case.
When I was a kid in a mid-sized Midwest market, we would get all sorts of signals from stations outside the city, as well as Independent stations and Public Access channels.
Then I moved to a more rural area, and we got just 3.5 channels: CBS, ABC, NBC, and the crappiest, low-quality ghosted PBS signal. I thought it was a miracle when around 1988, I turned on the TV in my bedroom and I suddenly got a low-quality Fox signal from a low-power TV station 25 miles away. In was snowy and somewhat unreliable, even with aluminum foil and twelve coat hangers hanging on the rabbit ears. But that was sudden "luxury"!
Anyway, sorry for the random aside!
'80sSitcoms 12-22-2020, 06:16 PM This would have been a good "aside" for the FOL International Fans thread. ;)
80s Dude 12-22-2020, 06:42 PM My parents had a huge antenna on their house, so it could pick up signals a log way away. We could get some Rochester NY stations (though not a as clear as the Buffalo stations) if it was turned the right way.

Dang! I'm so jealous!

Yeah, we never did get Canadian representation in the EPCOT thread!
