HBO is developing a reboot of its hit vampire drama "True Blood", Deadline has confirmed. The premium cabler has been working on a new version of the series for nearly a year.
"Riverdale" creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and "NOS4A2" creator Jami O’Brien will co-write the pilot, and O’Brien also will executive produce. Original series creator Alan Ball also is attached as an executive producer.

I hope they bring back some of the original cast for the reboot.
JamesG 12-10-2020, 04:49 PM Anna Paquin Responds to "True Blood" Reboot News
by Nick Romano
December 10, 2020
One question has been percolating among Anna Paquin's fans on Twitter since yesterday: Is she going to return for the "True Blood" reboot on HBO?
The short answer, it would appear, is no. At the very least, not at this stage in development.
Paquin was one of the first of the original "True Blood" cast members to respond to the news that HBO is in the early process of rebooting the show, which was inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries books by author Charlaine Harris.
"Well, this is the first I'm hearing about this," Paquin tweeted. She then clarified she's "not mad" over the news, "just answering the question that has inundated" her Twitter feed.
Responding to Paquin, Denis O'Hare, who played vampire Russell Edgington, remarked, "Me too..."

JamesG 01-13-2021, 05:04 AM Anna Paquin is Optimistic about the "True Blood" Reboot, Even if she's Surprised it's Happening
by Allie Gemmell
Jan. 11, 2021
Collider's own Christina Radish recently had the opportunity to chat with "True Blood" star Anna Paquin.
During that conversation, we wanted to seize on the opportunity to discuss the recently announced reboot from "Riverdale" co-creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa which is currently in the works. Turns out, Paquin had some candid thoughts to share about the big news.
When we asked Paquin if she was surprised about the reboot announcement, she replied, "I don't know. No. Yes," and went on to share her initial reaction:
"[Author] Charlaine Harris didn't even know it was happening. Everybody's phones were blowing up. Cast and crew, by the way, were like, 'Oh my God, your show is getting picked back up!' and we were all like, 'Huh? What?'"
Paquin continued, sharing how she is still in touch with the "True Blood" cast and crew and describing how meaningful it is to remain connected after all this time.
In light of this reboot news, could Paquin return and reprise her role as Sookie? Well, nothing's been officially confirmed, but it doesn't seem likely.
However, she seems optimistic about the reboot, telling Collider, "So, I wish them well. I don't know if they need us for anything. Aren't we all too old now? But it's a fun world. It's a supernatural world with endless possibilities. Of course, there's room to do more and to tell more stories within that universe. We don't own it."

JamesG 02-14-2021, 01:50 PM HBO Boss Says Prospective "True Blood" Reboot must be "A Story Worth Telling"
by Michael Ausiello
February 13, 2021
HBO is indeed eyeing a return trip to Bon Temps. Confirming our exclusive report from December, HBO boss Casey Bloys says a "True Blood" reboot is “in development” at the premium cabler, although he stresses that the project is in its infancy.
“There’s no green light imminent on that,” he tells us. “I wouldn’t say it’s as far along as, say, the Game of Thrones [spinoff House of Dragon]. We definitely have a writer working on an idea for sure, but I think that it’s fair to say it’s not quite as far along as people think. It’s [not] coming on the air next year. It’s a long way away from that.”
“We’ll have to see how it comes together,” Bloys adds. “Like with any development, you want to see [if] it [is] a story worth telling. Is it engaging? Does it add to the original? And we’ll see.”

There’s been multiple versions of it. I don’t know that we’ve landed on the one. I don’t want to give you the impression that it’s anything close to [getting a green light].
