View Full Version : Who Should Replace Alex Trebek?
icecream 12-09-2020, 09:59 AM Obviously no one can replace his legacy on Jeopardy! But the show is going on with guest hosts for the rest of the season starting with Ken Jennings, with a permanent host likely named at the start of next season. And Ken Jennings is definitely my first choice, we have already seen him reading entire categories since Ken was added as consulting producer. I think he would be a natural at hosting full time, but he does have so many other gigs like his regular Master Minds panelist role and ABC's version of The Chase starring the Jeopardy! goats. Brad Rutter I could maybe see hosting it, although I see him more as a mean-spirited host if Weakest Link ever got a male host again. James Holzauer I liked as a contestant, but he does not have the personality at all to pull off full time hosting. Bestie mentioned Levar Burton being a possibility, and I agree he would make for a good host. Other celebrities who I think would make natural hosts are Kelsey Grammer and Tom Hanks. If they go with a woman, my top pick would be Sarah from the clue crew. She is already known to the Jeopardy! fanbase and very pretty as well. Mike Richards the executive producer has previous game show hosting experience with GSN's revival of The Pyramid from 2012. Alex Trebek's wife Jean would be a way of literally keeping it in his family, but she might not want the spotlight like her husband had. Names that have been rumored as possible replacements are Anderson Cooper and George S from the news industry. I don't want either of them, they would both make terrible game show hosts. Keep the news and game show genres separate. Ironically I have watched Anderson's New Year's Eve shows since the totally despicable Kathy Griffin was fired from CNN. But that was more of a dislike of ABC's show, and I only turn it on a few minutes before midnight. Unlike the annoying yapping heads on ABC, CNN just has the ball quietly counting down and doesn't break for commercial right before midnight like ABC does. Then they have had a stretch of good uninterrupted songs after midnight has come, including New York, New York. But that is the only time I have any use for Anderson Cooper, no way to him on Jeopardy! :nonono:
howilu 12-09-2020, 10:31 AM One name that should be considered is Mo Rocca, who does reports on CBS Sunday Morning and is also a panelist on the NPR quiz Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. He has also hosted the National Geography Bee and to me, he would make a great candidate to replace Alex Trebek.
icecream 12-09-2020, 10:45 AM A horrifying thought I just had: lousy actor Dax Shepard has sometimes read entire categories. I can't stand him, he had better not be under consideration. As a TKAA (The Kids Are Alright) fan I naturally hate his Bless This Garbage (Mess) show, as it and Single Parent Losers screwed TKAA out of a renewal because of ABC's deal with garbage creator Liz Meriwether.
Hawkee 12-12-2020, 04:59 AM How about Bill O'Reilly? With his knowledge in news he could be considered a likeable choice for Jeopardy. Then if Bill O'Reilly wouldn't be picked how about for a female host Robin Meade because she is wonderful talented and a great country singer as well and she could host Jeopardy so good

TSMIV 12-12-2020, 11:59 AM In the current political climate, it better not be a newscaster. Too many of them have made fools of themselves, and therefore have ZERO credibility.
stevea 12-12-2020, 01:10 PM I wonder if they'll just use the guest host gigs as trials, and just pick one of those people.
RetroGuy2000 12-12-2020, 01:18 PM I've read some opinion pieces advocating for either Ken Jennings or Betty White.
Mrgman 12-13-2020, 02:04 AM jeff probst
Bonniegirl 12-13-2020, 02:19 AM Michael Lembeck or Tony Danza !:D:heart::eyes:
Zoneboy 12-13-2020, 05:37 AM jeff probst
Anyone, but him or Ryan Seacrest.
My choice would be Tom Bergeron.
NCRavensFan86 12-16-2020, 10:59 AM In order of most realistic:
Chris Harrison (I can't believe he is not hosting the primetime "WWTBAM" Kimmel is terrible!, I wish he would he keep his political views to his late night show)
Marc Summers (He has hosted 3 trivia shows besides "Double Dare." They are "Pick Your Brain", "Win Tuition" and "History IQ")
Brooke Burns (Very underrated host IMO, warm personality, only 42, could help attract a younger viewing audience, would hosting "Masterminds" and "Jeopardy" be too much for her?")
Mark L. Walburg (Loved him on Russian Roulette, would he be able to host "Antiques Roadshow" and "Jeopardy!")
Kennedy (loved her on "Friend or Foe". Her personality might be too strong for this show, could she balance work with FOX Business Channel?)
I can see Ken Jennings becoming a permanent host.
Edward216 12-16-2020, 04:08 PM Anyone, but him or Ryan Seacrest.
My choice would be Tom Bergeron.
I like Ryan Seacrest I could see him hosting Jeopardy. But between his cohosting Live with Kelly and Ryan, American Idol, and American Top 40 I don't think he'd ever have the time to do it.

Mark Walberg isn't hosting Antiques Roadshow anymore. Now all they have is a woman narrating the show, and you never see her on camera. I don't think they've ever even mentioned her name. I hate it. >:(

AMackII 12-19-2020, 02:10 PM Either George Gray, Doug Davidson, Todd Newton, Chris Harrison or Jeff Probst should takeover for Trebek
Ken Jennings, with his "smarmy core," will never properly fill Alex Trebek's Jeopardy! shoes (https://nypost.com/2020/12/16/ken-jennings-will-never-approach-alex-trebeks-jeopardy-legacy/)
"Trebek’s long reign as king of the quiz show in which a correct answer must be delivered in the form of a question is marked by a dearth of scandal or offense," says Andrea Peyser. "The Canadian transplant was sassy without being raunchy. Seemingly erudite without being a snob." That's in contrast to interim host Ken Jennings, she says. "Jennings’ weird sense of humor, if you can call it that, reveals more about the guy’s smarmy core than it does about the vast trove of trivia to which he’s devoted his days," she says, adding that his "reign as the show’s winningest contestant is clouded by a level of flippant cruelty previously unseen on a smart program that, for decades, has delivered a necessary and calming distraction during times of war, recession, social unrest and pandemic."
OH Nuts! 12-20-2020, 02:27 AM I can see Ken Jennings becoming a permanent host.
I as well - I think he’d be a good choice.
TV Guy 12-20-2020, 02:42 PM I could see Lester Holt being a good host - too bad he’s already got a gig. Meredith Vieira and Tom Bergeron would be solid choices, but the producers are almost certainly going to go younger. Mo Rocco would be fun, though he may not be traditional enough.
I still don’t think it will be Ken Jennings. He’s just not an experienced broadcaster. But we’ll see. The guest host slots are definitely going to be used for tryouts.
icecream 12-21-2020, 08:37 AM I know Chris Harrison is popular with many, but he is just too dull for me to see him as a long term host of Jeopardy! I think they could do better.

Let’s face it, whoever they choose is going to have BIG SHOES to fill.
(R.I.P. Alex. And a final Jeopardy answer “Alex Trebek” = Who was one of the best game show hosts ever?
TV Guy 12-22-2020, 11:13 AM I can pretty much guarantee that the host of The Bachelor will not host Jeopardy. The press would eviscerate him, and Sony knows this.

She's absolutely right. Ken Jennings is a horrible disgusting man. :mad:puke:

SledgeBarone 01-02-2021, 11:19 PM My choice would be Tom Bergeron.
Tom Bergeron turned down the suggestion but suggested Levar Burton or Danica McKellar.
https://twitter.com/Tom_Bergeron/status/1335267731885547521
Danica had a distinguished academic background after she starred in the Wonder Years, and her TV show about math was entertaining, but I don't know if she has much experience interacting with civilians on television. She would make an intriguing choice, though.
Katie Couric to guest-host Jeopardy! for one week (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-01-06/katie-couric-will-guest-host-jeopardy-after-the-final-alex-trebek-episodes-air)
The longtime network news star will be one of several people who will take over the Jeopardy! hosting job on an interim basis in wake of Alex Trebek's death. Couric will be one of the first interim guest hosts after Ken Jennings, but it's not yet known when her week of shows will air.
Who will become Jeopardy!'s new host?: Steve Kornacki? Mayim Bialik? Executive producer Mike Richards!? (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-01-06/alex-trebek-jeopardy-host-replacement-ken-jennings-katie-couris)
The Los Angeles Times' Stephen Battaglio, who reported earlier today that Katie Couric will guest host for a week, says new Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune executive producer Mike Richards is among the names being bandied about to replace Alex Trebek, along with Kornacki, "who has developed a rabid cult following for his savant-like analysis of vote counts on election nights," and Bialik. As Battaglio points out, Richards has experience as a game show host (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsaDE7KGTsw). According to Richards' biography (https://jeopardyhistory.fandom.com/wiki/Mike_Richards), he hosted GSN's Divided and the revival of The Pyramid, as well as Beauty and the Geek (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcwjU7iXoo4). He was also a candidate to host The Price is Right, instead becoming the show's executive producer until 2019.
TSMIV 01-06-2021, 11:41 PM So far none of the names sound appealing. They should do a nationwide talent search and find a total unknown.
icecream 01-07-2021, 11:41 PM Vanna White is so underused on Wheel of Fortune. She is supposedly an equal co-host yet barely gets to speak. I think Vanna is smart enough to host Jeopardy, as well as anyone can after Alex. And she showed she was good with contestants when Pat Sajak was off for his surgery. Maggie Sajak could return to Wheel of Fortune, this time as her dad's permanent letter turner.
James28 01-07-2021, 11:56 PM I would most likely prefer to get somebody who was born in the late 1970s for the new host of Jeopardy!, even if it's a complete unknown. Most of the people who have been suggested in this thread so far are too old. Jeff Probst, Ryan Seacrest, and Chris Harrison would not be desirable choices for me. And on the subject of Ken Jennings, who is already slated for a guest-hosting stint this month: I'm not sure is any former Jeopardy! contestants should become permanent hosts, either.
At one point, I was even entertained with the thought of a female Alex hosting Jeopardy! (Alex is a unisex name, BTW).

To me, Ken Jennings should not become the permanent host of Jeopardy because there are rules that are true with any game show that if you know someone who works on a show you could be disqualified as a potential contestant. it has been that way since the quiz show scandals of the late 1950s. Hiring Jennings as a permanent host would likely thin out the talent pool for future Jeopardy contestants.
icecream 01-08-2021, 02:20 PM I don't see why knowing someone who works on the show should disqualify you as a contestant. As long as no one is given the answers ahead of time, it will still remain a fair game.
howilu 01-09-2021, 11:09 AM It's been that way since the quiz show scandal. it's been a standard of the network's Standards and Practices Department.
Greenbeans 01-09-2021, 01:09 PM I'd go with Levar Burton. Ken Jennings pretty much tweeted himself out of the running.
icecream 01-09-2021, 02:19 PM Has America Says been cancelled? It has been a long time since season 3 aired. If America Says is cancelled, John Michael Higgins would make a good Jeopardy! host.
SledgeBarone 01-11-2021, 04:42 PM ^^^^Not sure if America Says is still canceled. John Michael Higgins is the new principal in the Saved by the Bell reboot (which premiered on Peacock in November), so that game show may well be gone. :( However, I think America Says succeeded more due to its easy-to-play-along format than from its (mediocre) hosting, so I'd hope JMH wouldn't be the guy for Jeopardy.
Jeopardy! boss Mike Richards will use his experience working on the post-Bob Barker Price is Right in finding Alex Trebek's replacement (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/11/arts/television/jeopardy-new-host.html)
Richards ended up becoming the executive producer of The Price is Right hosted by Drew Carey after auditioning for the hosting job himself. Richards was brought on board to fix the Carey version of the show after it initially suffered in the ratings. “They were trying to make Drew host Bob’s show,” Richards recalled to The New York Times. “And I thought it was very important that Drew host Drew’s version of The Price is Right.” Carey said that Barker himself had given him similar advice during the transition. "He said, ‘Go in there and don’t try to copy me. Do the show your own way,’” Carey said in an interview. “He was right. I can’t go in and do a Bob Barker impersonation.” Carey and Richards agreed that while Barker had a self-assured, authoritative air as host, Carey’s strengths lay in his interactions with audience members and his colleagues onstage. “I’m like a guy playing along with you or helping you up onstage and being Mr. Friendly,” Carey said of his more down-to-earth approach. So, they changed the entrance. Carey was no longer introduced as the “star” of the show, but as its “host.” ALSO: Watch Ken Jennings' comments in his debut as interim Jeopardy! host (https://tvline.com/2021/01/11/jeopardy-ken-jennings-new-host-first-episode-video-poll/).

Ken Jennings proved this week he should be Alex Trebek's successor as Jeopardy! host (https://www.thedailybeast.com/ken-jennings-proved-he-should-be-the-next-jeopardy-host)
Jennings was "perfectly fine" as the first interim host of the post-Trebek era, says Kevin Fallon. "For those of us reeling and skeptical in the wake of Trebek’s absence, that’s a ringing endorsement. He basically is doing an approximation of Alex. He’s not yet as articulate, nimble or effortless. He’s starting to pepper in those Trebekisms, little asides and explanations for why things were wrong. But he’s still missing the ease. How can you be authoritative and wily at once? It’s why the word singular exists, and why it’s used to describe Alex. Jennings needs to be more present. He’s nervous! It’s understandable, and there’s a learning curve that should be allowed to get over that."
icecream 01-18-2021, 01:35 AM Ben Bailey from Cash Cab would be a natural at hosting Jeopardy!
icecream 02-02-2021, 11:23 PM Ugh! Anderson Cooper, Dr. Oz, Savannah Guthrie, and some medical correspondent from CNN will be guest hosts. Keep the newscasters away from an entertainment show, and Dr. Oz come on now! Ken Jennings has been great, really no need for other guest hosts when they should be offering him the permanent job. But if Ken can't do it, I wish they would consider Sarah from the clue crew and Ben Bailey.
https://tvline.com/2021/02/02/jeopardy-anderson-cooper-dr-oz-guest-hosts/
TSMIV 02-03-2021, 06:57 PM Anderson Cooper, Dr. Oz, Savannah Guthrie, and some medical correspondent from CNN will be guest hosts.
I guess they think no conservatives watch Jeopardy! Well, they're wrong. I've watched it since 1985, but I will NOT watch the episodes hosted by these people who think I'm an idiot. I knew they would eff it up after Alex was gone.
Each celebrity Jeopardy! guest host will serve a two-week stint (https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2021/02/22/jeopardy-producer-guest-hosts-and-who-replace-alex-trebek/4538881001/)
It was previously believed that the celebrity guest-hosts would only work one or two episodes. But Mike Richards, who made his debut tonight as interim Jeopardy! guest host for the next two weeks, revealed that each will serve two-week stints. Once Richards' two weeks are up, Katie Couric will take over on March 8, followed by Dr. Mehmet Oz on March 22 and Aaron Rodgers on April 5. Dates for Anderson Cooper, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Savannah Guthrie, Bill Whitaker and Mayim Bialik have yet to be announced. Richards, a veteran game show host who said on tonight's show that he was a last-minute guest host due to Los Angeles' COVID crisis, said of his two-week stint: "In some ways it’s easier for me, because I’m an executive producer. So if I didn’t like the way (a clue) was written I could get mad at me. Once I was able to get (past) the enormity of the man who stood behind the lectern for the better part of four decades … it was very fun. But at every commercial break, as I stepped back, I would think of Alex, who he was, how great he was, and it was easy to get in your head that way. I didn’t know I was going to be doing it until three days before, and so I had not prepared myself to host in the way that I know other guest hosts are. So there was just a lot to unpack. Plus, I also only owned one suit, so there was a little bit of scrambling there. It was very fun; humbling doesn’t begin to describe the feeling. It hit me like a ton of bricks when Johnny Gilbert announced my name. That’s of course the last thing you hear when you start to walk out. … and it was overwhelming in the moment." ALSO: Jeopardy! fans are thirsting over Mike Richards on his first night as interim guest host (http://www.justjared.com/2021/02/22/jeopardy-fans-are-thirsting-over-mike-richards-the-shows-new-guest-host/).
SledgeBarone 02-23-2021, 03:09 PM Johnny Gilbert actually hosted a game show in the 1960s. He's way too old to become the permanent host, but it would be a nice touch to have him helm an episode.
The number of Jeopardy! episodes Alex Trebek hosted is uncertain (https://twitter.com/clairemcnear/status/1363975306688749577?s=11)
Jeopardy! executive producer and interim guest-host Mike Richards kicked off Monday's show by saying Trebek hosted 8,244 episodes of the iconic game show. But as the author of the recently Jeopardy! book Answers in the Form of a Question Claire McNear points out, Trebek's "first episode was Episode 1; his last was Episode 8310. but he didn't host 8,310 episodes!" ALSO: Jeopardy! fans are calling on Mike Richards to become full-time host after just one episode (https://people.com/tv/jeopardy-fans-call-for-producer-mike-richards-to-become-full-time-host/).
Mike Richards has emerged as a dark horse to take over as the new host of Jeopardy! (https://www.mic.com/p/jeopardy-executive-producer-mike-richards-just-might-be-the-one-63554834)
After a few shows, the Jeopardy! executive producer -- and veteran game show host and finalist to succeed Bob Barker on The Price is Right -- has been widely praised by many on social media who feel he's the perfect replacement for Alex Trebek. "I’ve seen most of his first two episodes, along with hazy memories of some Pyramid reruns, and might be coming around to the Richards evangelicals," says Shawn Cooke. "Charming, good-looking, and lending a sort of anonymous polish to the proceedings, he seems to honor the central tenet of the show. 'It’s about making people that are smart the most important people in the room, and I just think it’s so important to keep that going and to continue Alex’s legacy,' he said in an on-set interview. There’s the issue of swapping Trebek’s knowing deadpan for a more overtly vanilla, playful MC — which you wouldn’t expect Richards to mirror in his earliest episodes — but maybe the next iteration of Jeopardy! doesn’t really need to be about the host."
Hawkee 03-05-2021, 03:18 AM How about Jeff Goldblum? He is talented and has tons of knowledge and I can bet he would be a great host for Jeopardy. I'm surprised that Jeopardy hasn't picked him to guest host Jeopardy
Bestie
icecream 03-08-2021, 09:26 PM Not watching news I didn't know what Katie Couric sounded like. She has an annoying voice, glad she is no longer in consideration for permanent host.
Samme 03-09-2021, 12:31 AM I believe the show needs someone with a good voice, otherwise it sounds like an amateur playing host. Mike Richards has been the only good voice so far. They don't need to hurry in picking another host. Maybe they'll find a choice who has it all and almost everyone agrees is the best fit.
Katie Couric's Jeopardy! debut draws mixed reviews (https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2021/03/09/katie-couric-jeopardy-host-fans-give-her-mixed-reviews/4641396001/)
Social media reaction ranged from calling Couric "oddly comforting" to saying she has a "monotone delivery" that is "just too painful to watch." Couric is guest-hosting Jeopardy! for the next two weeks.
Katie Couric was a "nervous wreck" becoming the first female to host Jeopardy! (https://people.com/tv/katie-couric-on-being-the-first-female-jeopardy-guest-host-i-was-a-nervous-wreck/)
"I was a nervous wreck, honestly," Couric said in discussing her two-week stint as a guest-host, which began Monday night. "There are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes, things you need to figure out. It's complicated! It requires a lot of multitasking...But it was so much fun." Couric added: "I love that I'm the first woman!. They framed a little thing for me after I was on. It says, 'What iconic journalist and Stand Up to Cancer founder is the first female guest host of Jeopardy!?' And then it says, 'Who is Katie Couric?'"
Dr. Oz already has Jeopardy! fans fuming ahead of his guest-hosting debut (https://www.thewrap.com/dr-oz-jeopardy-guest-host/)
While the initial news of Dr. Mehmet Oz guest-hosting for the next two weeks generated criticism last month (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Why-is-Dr-Oz-guest-hosting-Jeopardy-To-appeal-to-conservative-viewers-NXSPBL), the reality of him hosting via a Jeopardy! promo (https://twitter.com/Jeopardy/status/1374028103224233984) released today generated renewed outrage. As Variety TV critic Daniel D'Addario put it: "Alex Trebek's final episodes gave us a moving, frank look at a real-life health crisis, endured with grace and no little difficulty. These were challenging and honest. Dr. Oz, by contrast, has suggested that drinking green tea with turmeric can prevent pancreatic cancer (https://twitter.com/DPD_/status/1374040058387390471)."
More than 500 past Jeopardy! contestants call for Dr. Oz's removal (https://ew.com/tv/jeopardy-dr-mehmet-oz-guest-host-alex-trebek/)
A letter from "concerned former contestants" (https://medium.com/@j.contestants.letter/a-letter-from-concerned-former-contestants-to-mike-richards-executive-producer-of-jeopardy-f2f8e2e53930) to executive producer Mike Richards last month has received attention in wake of Mehmet Oz kicking off his two-week Jeopardy!-hosting guest stint. "Dr. Oz stands in opposition to everything that Jeopardy! stands for," states the letter. "Jeopardy! is a show that values facts and knowledge. Throughout his nearly two decades on television he has used his authority as a doctor to push harmful ideas onto the American public, in stark contrast with his oath to first do no harm. These ideas include promoting supplements that do nothing, legitimizing gay conversion therapy (which is banned in California, as well as 19 other states), dangerous “cures” for autism, and, most recently, the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19. None of these things is backed by any scientific fact and by promoting them he is actively putting his viewers in danger. In fact, his ideas are so dangerous that thousands of his colleagues have petitioned to have him fired from his position at Columbia Medical School. And what kind of message does this send to the LGBTQ+ and autistic contestants and viewers of Jeopardy!?"
Shake Zula 04-03-2021, 04:35 AM The ideas I liked best were Ben Bailey and Jeff Goldblum. The worst was Mo Rocca. Somebody Chris Harrison was too dull. He wouldn’t be in the running for me, but I thought dull was what we were going for? I was gonna say Steven Wright. Can you get more dull than Alex? Sure, I loved the guy, but I don’t think he made the show. I think they’re just looking in the wrong places like Ken Jennings. I, for one, would much rather have Jeopardy James. Nobody even mentioned him and he’s got Jeopardy right in the name. It wasn’t Jeopardy Alex.
I’m not trying to hate, because Alex was good for a long time and consistent. He would give you 90% or better every night. So he’s the Cal Ripken of hosts and gets the Iron Man award. But like Cal, he never really did anything special. What did he bring to the show...blah? Will Cal be mentioned in 100 years from now in the Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Cy Young, Nolan Ryan conversation? No, he gets forgotten. I think Alex is easily replaced.
He wasn’t gameshowy like a used car salesman like a Tomarkin or Wahlberg, wasn’t funny, wasn’t personable, and not dull & unforgiving like either Weakest Link host or the Inquizitor. He was kinda middle of the road, plain. I used to hate when he talked to the contestants, he was so awkward. They should’ve skipped that for more questions. It was almost like he was interviewing kids at a science fair. What do you do little girl...blah, blah, blah....good for you. I also didn’t like when there was a questionable answer he had to pause, wait for someone to say something in his ear. He wasn’t decisive. Then next round he had to add or deduct from their score. That used to make me so mad. You make the call right then & there Alex, there’s no takesies backsies, you gotta eat it. Can’t say I’ve seen too many other trivia shows where they’re not sure if the answer is correct or go changing scores after the fact.
I think the guy off the street idea isn’t bad. Would probably work. I think lots of news anchors would work, they have that same personality type of consistency and longevity.
My ideas would be:
Jim Carey
Al Franken
Kevin Nealon
Bob Saget
Jesse the Body
John Henson from Wipeout
Matt Gaetz
Kaleigh McEnany
Craig Kilborn
Craig Ferguson
Rivers Cuomo
Simon Helberg
Clark Gregg
Would it be wrong of me to say that John Henson was more important to Wipeout than Alex was to Jeopardy?
icecream 04-03-2021, 07:31 AM Good grief, now I've heard it all. Alex was plenty personable, not dull, and not at all easily replaced. He won't be forgotten by a long shot. Jeopardy is not a comedy and never was meant to be, but Alex was funny on Cheers. A smart quiz show is not at all like a sitcom, which most people wouldn't expect Jeopardy to become one. Bringing in a so-so comedian like Jim Carrey and Bob Saget would be an epic disaster and insult to the game, and a wrestler like Jesse the Body could be even worse. Jeopardy! would have been cancelled before the 21st century or even before the 90s if it had a different host who was terrible. Katie Couric and Dr. Oz were both hideous replacements who showed how much poise and skill Alex brought to the game. Katie has an annoying voice, and Dr. Oz was stiff as a corpse, so stuffy! And comparing Jeopardy to Wipeout, there's a show that is really dumb and doesn't take any intelligence at all to be part of. John Henson, now there is a who cares name who will be easily forgotten.
howilu 04-03-2021, 08:40 AM The ideas I liked best were Ben Bailey and Jeff Goldblum.
Of all the names that you mentioned, I think Mo Rocca would be a great candidate to host Jeopardy. You did mention two other dark horses, Bob Saget, who host AFV and 1 vs. 100 and the guy who played Howard Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory Simon Helberg. They should both be considered.
icecream 04-03-2021, 08:56 AM That's who Simon Helberg was. Ugh, no! I didn't like Howard on TBBT, for sure don't want Simon full time on Jeopardy. :seeya:
icecream 04-03-2021, 09:40 AM A friend's April Fools post said Gilbert Gottfried has been hired as the permanent Jeopardy! host.
Crusinforabrusin2.5 04-03-2021, 03:57 PM I hope Ken Jennings becomes the permanent host. I thought he was good compared to the other guest hosts and the most consistent of them all.
icecream 04-05-2021, 07:53 PM Aaron Rodgers has no personality whatsoever, total dullsville. Good thing he wouldn't have been permanent anyway with his Packers position. What a run of lousy hosts we have had since Ken Jennings did great and Mike Richards was good.
Dr. Oz is the lowest-rated of the first four post-Alex Trebek Jeopardy! guest-hosts (https://www.thewrap.com/jeopardy-falls-to-lowest-ratings-since-holidays-in-dr-ozs-first-week-as-guest-host/)
Mehmet Oz's viewership for his first week was down another 2% from Katie Couric's two-week stint.
LeVar Burton is now openly lobbying to host Jeopardy! (https://uproxx.com/tv/levar-burton-jeopardy-host-replace-alex-trebek-fan-petition/)
When fans of the former Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation star first pushed for him to guest-host last November, Burton reacted with grace and humility, but he didn’t seem too optimistic about its chances. “Even if nothing comes from it, I can’t tell how much how I appreciate all y’alls love and support,” Burton tweeted (https://twitter.com/levarburton/status/1326973244847624195) at the time. But now, Burton is openly lobbying for the gig, tweeting the petition (https://twitter.com/levarburton/status/1379270045478449164) Monday night with the message: “Leaving this here in the event the powers that be are listening…" Burton's tweet came on Aaron Rodgers' first night guest-hosting Jeopardy! Some on Twitter questioned why the NFL QB got to guest-host before Burton (https://twitter.com/search?q=rodgers%20levar%20burton%20jeopardy&src=typed_query). Rodgers, who made his Jeopardy! guest-hosting debut on Monday night, reiterated to The Ringer that he was serious when he said he wants to become Alex Trebek's permanent successor (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Aaron-Rodgers-spent-quot-hours-and-hours-quot-studying-Alex-Trebek-to-prepare-to-guest-host-Jeopardy-quot-I-wanted-to-absolutely-just-crush-it-quot-NXS71l). "I don’t think I’d need to give up football to do it," says the Green Bay Packers QB. "They film 46 days a year. I worked 187 this year in Green Bay. That gives me, eh—(pauses)—178 days to do Jeopardy! So I feel like I could fit 46 into that 178 and make it work. It would be a dream job for sure, and I’m not shy at all about saying I want the job. That’s how I went into it. I want an opportunity to be in the mix." Rodgers is 37 and nearing what used to be quarterback's normal retirement age. But Rodgers has said repeatedly that he hopes to play into his 40s like Tom Brady (https://www.si.com/nfl/2015/09/15/green-bay-packers-aaron-rodgers-play-40s), the reigning Super Bowl champion, who is six years his senior. Rodgers added: "I feel like I bring something different to the stage—I’m the youngest of any of the guest hosts, I’d be the youngest host of just about any major game show, I bring an audience from the NFL, and I feel like I appeal to nerdy people, too, because I was a nerd in high school and got caught in that weird phase of wanting to be a jock and an athlete and also really caring about getting good grades. And at the same time, there’s not many bigger fans of the show than me. I’ve been watching it for years and years and years. I respect the show and appreciate the history of it, and also there’s my background of stepping in for a legend and their footsteps. I feel like all that combined makes me a pretty good candidate." In an interview on Jeopardy!'s YouTube channel, Rodgers said: “When I came on the show, I saw how special this environment was. I remember thinking this would be a dream job (https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/why-aaron-rodgers-cant-pass-up-being-the-next-jeopardy-host-if-offered-full-time-gig.html) if Alex ever retired at 90 to come back and be a part of this because I love trivia so much and I love the environment. It’s not like a super-lax environment. There’s an intensity, a focus that comes with the game. I thought it would be a fun challenge.”

Aaron Rodgers has no right to be as good as he is as Jeopardy! host in his first episode (https://slate.com/culture/2021/04/aaron-rodgers-promising-debut-as-jeopardy-guest-host.html): "After a somewhat stilted intro on Monday, Rodgers shook off any rust and put in a confident shift as soon as the game got rolling," says Nick Greene. "Despite his self-effacing warning, there were no signs of him being tripped up by any categories, and he even nailed the clues that required difficult scientific pronunciations like 'streptomycin' and 'pharyngeal.' He also didn’t appear to pick his butt once during the broadcast, so it really was a successful debut."

The Celebrity Jeopardy! champion, Green Bay Packers QB and reigning NFL most valuable player makes his debut on Monday as the next two-week Jeopardy! guest-host. Before his mid-February taping, Rodgers said he devoted a copious amount of time preparing for the job. "I watched hours and hours and hours of episodes," Rodgers told ESPN on Friday. "Luckily Netflix has a few seasons, and I went back to DVR. But I had to watch from a different perspective -- from Alex's perspective. I couldn't watch it as a fan anymore. I took pages and pages and pages of notes. I wrote down every affirmative that he said to any type of clue. I wrote down how he would respond if they didn't get it right. I wrote down beat points of the show. I wrote down all the different ways he would take it to break. I wrote down the stuff that he said coming out of break. Literally, I studied for this like no other. I wanted to absolutely just crush it." The first day was a practice session with the staff, and Rodgers said he could tell right way that "they weren't ready for me." "I know they didn't expect what I was about to bring, but I was just so prepared," Rodgers said. "I was so ready. So we get into the first game, the first run-through, there's 30 questions in a Jeopardy! round, and after the first 15 questions, we go to break. They say it in your earpiece, 'Take it to break.' So I take it to break, and there was a pause, and I think everyone was like, 'Whoa, OK, this guy kind of knows what he's doing here.' One of the head producers said as much. She was like, 'I'm just so appreciative of your approach.' And my whole thing was I felt like the best way to honor Alex's memory was to be so dialed in and so ready, and that's the approach I took. So I was ready to rock and roll."

Aaron Rodgers would definitely take the Jeopardy! job if offered, says hosting is almost like playing in the NFL (https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2021/04/02/jeopardy-aaron-rodgers-guest-hosts-suiting-up-alex-trebek/4849978001/): "Hell yeah, I would," he tells USA Today. "Look, it’s my second-brain job. I love the show and have a deep, deep affection for it. Not only is it a nostalgic connection to my childhood, but it’s a really special show to me and I had a great time with everybody that works there." Asked if he thought hosting would be harder than he thought it would be, Rodgers responded: "Of course. I do appreciate the practice games that we went through with some of the writers and researchers. But once the game started, there were definitely some nerves standing in the side stage and hearing my introduction and knowing I was going to walk from behind the board and have to take control of this game for the entire day. It was pretty special; nerve-wracking, but it was like an (NFL) game, almost, where you’re just kind of waiting for those introductions to run out of the tunnel."

icecream 04-13-2021, 01:50 PM I just sent the message below to Jeopardy's Facebook page. If you think Aaron Rodgers becoming permanent would be a horrible move, by all means let them know so they have more negative feedback on him. Katie Couric and Dr. Oz weren't good either, but at least they aren't in contention. (I know this from a former poster here who is good friends with someone on the Jeopardy! staff.)
"Aaron Rodgers has been a horrible, lackluster host, and my mom agrees. He has no personality whatsoever and a totally boring voice. Please don't make Aaron the permanent host like he has been lobbying for, that would ruin what was once a good game show. At first I wasn't going to say anything assuming his NFL job kept him from being a permanent host. But I got concerned when I heard you were willing to work around his NFL schedule to put the tapings where it was convenient for him. If this total dullard is made permanent that will be a lousy decision."
Early in February I had sent them a message about how good Ken Jennings was and making him permanent would be a great move. Also, I left out in the message to Jeopardy! what my mom said about Aaron sounding like Floyd the Barber from Andy Griffith.
James28 04-15-2021, 11:09 PM Right now, a petition (https://www.change.org/p/sony-pictures-entertainment-levar-burton-should-be-the-next-host-of-jeopardy) is going around to have LeVar Burton be selected as the new host of Jeopardy!, and it's already up to 200,000 signatures.
While I wouldn't have any problem with Mr. Burton being added to the post-Trebek guest host rotation on Jeopardy!, the problem with him being chosen as its permanent host is... he is outside of the age range that I want (he's 64).

Aaron Rodgers isn't the first NFL player to host a famous game show (https://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/50730)
Rodgers guest-hosting Jeopardy! has a precedent as far as NFL players-turned-game show hosts go. In 1989, Pat Sajak left the daytime version of Wheel of Fortune to host The Pat Sajak Show on CBS. He was replaced by former San Diego Chargers kicker Rolf Benirschke (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bak_pv7nuk). "Unlike Rodgers, an avid fan and former celebrity contestant on Jeopardy!, Benirschke had no previous experience or even an affinity for the game show he hosted," explains ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "He just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It started with an appearance on a local morning show in Los Angeles, where Benirschke went on behalf of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (he suffered from ulcerative colitis during his playing career). He joked that the two things you never want to do in TV are follow kids and follow animals. Sure enough, the first guests were from a children’s theater group performing Les Miserables, and the second was a man who was promoting what would be the 'pet of the 1990s -- rabbits.'....Little did Benirschke know but TV executive and Wheel of Fortune creator Merv Griffin happened to catch the segment. Griffin called him a few days later and wanted to know if Benirschke was interested in auditioning for a new game show." Benirschke's stint didn't last long, as NBC canceled Wheel of Fortune after 14 years. The show resurfaced on CBS with new host Bob Goen. Benirschke hasn't watched Rodgers' stint on Jeopardy!, but they know each other from belonging to the same San Diego golf club. “Here’s the thing: He’s a bright guy, and I think he enjoys that,” Benirschke said of Rodgers. “It gets to show the world that football players aren’t just football players. There are some really bright guys in the league that do other things.” ALSO: Jimmy Kimmel teases next week's Jeopardy! guest-host Anderson Cooper by playing his Jeopardy! fails (https://www.thewrap.com/jeopardy-anderson-cooper-guest-host-power-players-wrong-answers-cheech-marin/).

Jennings was responding to an Adam McKay tweet (https://twitter.com/GhostPanther/status/1382472405403136002) praising the Green Bay Packers QB's two-week stint as guest-host. "I know we’re in the midst of a murderous pandemic, the collapse of the livable atmosphere & an extreme white nationalist party dismantling US democracy but... Aaron Rogers is freakishly good at hosting Jeopardy," McKay tweeted. After Jennings tweeted that "It doesn't seem fair!" in response, McKay tweeted to Jennings: "Wife and I think you’re the best guest host so far but you haven’t been body slammed by 280 lb man missiles for 2 decades. So it’s all relative."

(https://www.vice.com/en/article/4avgem/let-levar-burton-host-jeopardy-alex-trebek): “Oh my god, I never dreamed it would get this kind of response,” says Joshua Sanders, who first shared the petition in the Facebook group "Star Trek S***posting." “But of course he’s the best option. I literally can’t think of anybody who would do a better job than him. For kids who grew up in the 80s and 90s, LeVar Burton probably did more to encourage them to learn how to read than their own parents did. I was about 13 when Star Trek: The Next Generation came on, and he was the smart guy character. He was my hero, and the one I wanted to be like, you know?”
Willbo 04-16-2021, 05:46 PM Definitely not Aaron Rodgers, Katie Couric or Dr. Oz.

Ken Jennings should get it. It's beyond ridiculous now.
I couldn't watch Katie Couric for more than 5 seconds.
Aaron Rogers is awful.
I hate Anderson Cooper and would never watch him.
I heard that successful contestant Buzzy Cohen is getting a shot but I didn't like him when he was a contestant.
The only reason people are signing a petition for Levar Burton is because he's black; and most come right out and say it.
Ironically the second best person so far is the Executive Producer who had no experience.
They are so intent on giving the whole world a chance that by the time they settle on Jennings people will be out of the habit of watching the show.
Joe Buck to guest-host Jeopardy!: Why does the show keep picking "random" people who've been on TV? (https://mashable.com/article/jeopardy-guest-hosts-dr-oz-aaron-rodgers-joe-buck/)
This morning, the New York Post reported that Fox Sports' Buck will get a tryout (https://nypost.com/2021/04/17/joe-buck-will-take-a-turn-as-jeopardy-guest-host/) as a Jeopardy! guest-host this summer, a move that won't impact his schedule as the voice of Fox's Major League Baseball and NFL games. With Buck's selection, "the trend of ill-fitting hosts continues," says Anna Iovine. "Rather than opt for experienced game show hosts or well-known edu-tainment personalities, the guest hosts have been a roundtable of talk show hosts, a football superstar, and a TV doctor who's spewed so much quackery that the American Medical Association is wary of him." Iovine points out that the Jeopardy! guest-hosting roster started off great with Ken Jennings and executive producer Mike Richards. "So why has the show gone in the opposite direction?" she asks, adding: "For whatever reason, however, the show has turned away from internal talent and has looked outward — and outward to people who don't align with the show's message or gameplay," such as Dr. Oz. "While Oz's tenure is blessedly over," she says, "there are more odd-seeming guests on the horizon: CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, actor Mayim Bialik, broadcaster Savannah Guthrie. I'm not saying any of these people will be poor hosts, but they appear to be a random assortment of people who've been on TV. A Jeopardy! host, in my opinion as a regular viewer, should be someone who is excited to learn and just as excited for the audience to learn as well. Vice said it best: For the love of god, let LeVar Burton host Jeopardy! (https://www.vice.com/en/article/4avgem/let-levar-burton-host-jeopardy-alex-trebek) Barring that, the next permanent Jeopardy! host should be someone with Burton's passion for education. No host will replace Alex Trebek, but we deserve better. We deserve a host that will carry his legacy with pride, and see Jeopardy! into the future. No more people plucked from sports, and certainly no more quack doctors. I myself would love if the next Jeopardy! host were LeVar Burton, but even if it's not, please: someone with at least a touch of Trebek's hosting magic."
icecream 04-19-2021, 08:33 PM For the first time in the last four hosts, Jeopardy! is finally worth watching a second night of with Anderson Cooper, he pleasantly surprised me. Anderson also is the closest resemblance to Alex Trebek with his white hair.
howilu 04-21-2021, 09:42 AM I have watched Anderson Cooper's first two episodes and to me, he really does a great job as host. He keeps the game moving and interacts well with the contestants, especially when he talks with them after the first commercial break. He should be in the upper echelon of candidates to be the new permanent host. But first, I'm looking forward to watching the episodes with Mayim Bialik and Joe Buck. Could they also be in the running?
icecream 04-21-2021, 03:33 PM A permanent host will be chosen by the time the new season starts in September, which means it would probably be taped two months before. Joe Buck isn't hosting until July, I doubt he is a serious contender. Plus he has a lot of haters. I am sure Joe will be better than the other sports host, awful Aaron Rodgers. But that is a low bar to pass.
JamesG 04-21-2021, 03:51 PM Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton & George Stephanopoulos among "Jeopardy!" Season 37’s Final Guest Hosts
by Alexandra Del Rosario

"Jeopardy!" has unveiled the final group of season 37 guest hosts, with Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton and George Stephanopoulous among the TV personalities set to lead the popular trivia game show.

Zoneboy 04-21-2021, 06:03 PM Of the guest hosts so far I prefer Ken Jennings or Mike Richards to succeed Alex Trebek. Aaron Rodgers wasn't great, but he was better than Katie Couric and Dr. Oz. I'm no fan of Joe Buck so I doubt I'll watch his episodes.
Zoneboy 04-21-2021, 06:13 PM Tom Bergeron turned down the suggestion but suggested Levar Burton or Danica McKellar.

Thanks for that, I had no idea it had been suggested to him, but I'm totally anti-twitter so it's no wonder.
TSMIV 04-21-2021, 06:51 PM Absolutely not on Anderson Cooper. He's a lying liar who lies.
Why is there so much hate for Joe Buck? At least he's got a voice for it. Ken was ok, but his voice is really not strong enough.
Edward216 04-24-2021, 07:36 PM I'm so hoping LeVar Burton is named the new permanent host. If not I won't be watching Jeopoardy again.

There's no way to know who will make a good Jeopardy! host (https://tv.avclub.com/there-s-no-way-to-know-who-will-make-a-good-jeopardy-h-1846767788)
The half-dozen guest-hosts have shown that it’s anyone’s guess as to who is going to be able to fill Alex Trebek's shoes effectively. "Some people that seemed like they should be a slam dunk—even in terms of basics, like ease with the camera—have stumbled, while others who appeared to be strange choices turned out to be inspired," says Alex McLevy. "It’s why (LeVar) Burton’s curriculum vitae might not end up mattering much, no matter how good a fit it looks on paper. The skills these guest hosts have brought from other TV shows, or even wholly other careers, don’t necessarily translate into making for a good Jeopardy! host. And while it would be easy to say that the je nais se quoi required is akin to 'Be as much like Alex Trebek as possible,' that isn’t true. The best replacements thus far have managed to square their personalities with the demands of the job, not subsume them in a clunky attempt to be something they’re not."
icecream 05-03-2021, 08:32 PM After one night anyway, Bill Whitaker is exactly middle of the road for me out of the seven guest hosts so far. He is no match for Ken Jennings, Anderson Cooper, and Mike Richards. But he is also easily better than Aaron Rodgers, Dr. Oz, and Katie Couric. Bill is also a much better choice for first black host than Katie Couric was for first female host.
Crusinforabrusin2.5 05-03-2021, 08:52 PM I'm so hoping LeVar Burton is named the new permanent host. If not I won't be watching Jeopoardy again.

Why do you want him to be the permanent host? He's out of the age range and because of that Ken Jennings would be a better fit
Archie8 05-03-2021, 09:17 PM There was one individual I was surprised did not get an invite to host Jeopardy!
Meredith Vieira
She was a host on the daytime version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and is currently hosting 25 Words or Less
Maybe I missed a story that she was asked but passed due to her husband being legally blind and having MS.
I just thought the show might have wanted to give her a shot since she has done game shows.
icecream 05-03-2021, 09:18 PM Why do you want him to be the permanent host? He's out of the age range and because of that Ken Jennings would be a better fitEd certainly isn't alone in that. Levar Burton has a huge fanbase who has been campaigning for him to be the new host. I agree Ken Jennings would be the best choice, but just because someone is older doesn't mean they can't do it. Older within reason of course. I think Johnny Gilbert would make an excellent host but with his really advanced age no way would that have been considered.
Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards confirms a permanent host will be in place when Season 38 begins taping this summer (https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/jeopardy-expected-name-alex-trebeks-170848904.html)
Richards says a new host will be named before Season 38 begins taping in late July or early August. “It’s going to come down to the heads of Sony (Entertainment) to make that decision, ultimately, and it’ll come down to testing,” Richards told The Wall Street Journal’s podcast The Journal, according to Yahoo! Entertainment. “They’ve been a part of it. They know what’s going on in the studio. They’re watching the feed, the tapings. It’s very extensive. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of, as far as testing in its size and scope.” He added that Sony is doing extensive research before making a final pick. “You want to make an informed decision,” Richards said. “In the end, we’re a pretty cerebral group, the Jeopardy! team. We want to go at this with real analytics and real testing and not just go, ‘Hey, how about this guy?’ which is kind of how a lot of these decisions have been made historically.”
Bill Whitaker on the hoopla surrounded by guest-hosting Jeopardy!: "I had no idea that this was going to be this wild and crazy" (https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2021/05/03/bill-whitaker-jeopardy-guest-host-60-minutes/)
“I have been really blown away by the coverage this all gets," says the 60 Minutes correspondent, who begins his two-week stint today, in an interview with The Washington Post. "I truly did think, silly me, that I was going to be a Jeopardy! guest host and carry on with my life as usual. But these hosts: They’re gossiped about, they’re tweeted about, they’re in People magazine, the Hollywood Reporter. I’m going, ‘Oh my God, I had no idea that this was going to be this wild and crazy.’” Whitaker admits there was a learning curve to hosting Jeopardy! “I work in television news, which is a totally different animal. I’m used to talking to one camera,” he said. “Here, you had, I think, four cameras — one swoops in from the side, you talk to that one at the end of one commercial, and then swoops to another one you have to talk to after a commercial, and then the contestants are over on the other side. The thing that I was most surprised about was just how fast-paced it is.”
Jeopardy! would be crazy to pick Aaron Rodgers as permanent host after all his NFL drama (https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/aaron-rodgers-jeopardy-host-packers-replacement-01f4smeys27e)
The reigning NFL most valuable player's reported feud with the Green Bay Packers (https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2021/4/30/22412383/aaron-rodgers-green-bay-packers-trade-buzz-nfl-draft) should be a warning for Jeopardy! bosses, says Stephen Douglas. "Quarterbacks are not to be trusted," he says. "Jeopardy! would be smart to keep that in mind. Who knows how long in Rodgers' tenure with the show before he starts asking when Pat Sajak is going to retire. How long until he shows up on Entertainment Tonight to talk about how he's always been a huge fan of Supermarket Sweep? How will Jeopardy! producers feel when he starts retweeting Family Feud highlights with an eyes emoji? How often will CBS have to put out a statement saying, 'Drew Carey is the current host of The Price is Right. We have no further comment at this time.' And we haven't even gotten to the stories about tensions between Rodgers and Johnny Gilbert that originate from 'someone close to Gilbert's camp.'" ALSO: Rodgers' feud complicates the NFL's scheduling of a game between him and his MVP predecessor Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs (https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/05/03/aaron-rodgers-drama-complicates-2021-schedule/).
Jeopardy! boss prefers the next host do the job full-time -- does that rule out Aaron Rodgers? (https://www.wsj.com/articles/aaron-rodgers-packers-trade-jeopardy-broncos-raiders-11620043044)
Executive producer Mike Richards told The Wall Street Journal's The Journal podcast he would prefer the next Jeopardy! host to do the job full-time and not as a side gig (https://twitter.com/jasongay/status/1389192306641842183). “I would prefer it is someone who is dedicated to the show, completely,” said Richards, while acknowledging the decision will be up to a larger group. Richards' comments would seemingly rule out Aaron Rodgers, who has said he could juggle hosting Jeopardy! and playing QB in the NFL (https://www.theringer.com/tv/2021/4/5/22368705/aaron-rodgers-jeopardy-guest-host-q-and-a). It would also possibly rule out many of the other guest-hosts, who already have full-time jobs. ALSO: Aaron Rodgers wore a "Turd Ferguson" name tag at the Kentucky Derby (https://uproxx.com/sports/aaron-rodgers-jeopardy-turd-ferguson-name-tag-kentucky-derby/).
SledgeBarone 05-14-2021, 02:30 PM I caught a snippet of an episode with Levar Burton as the emcee. Levar has more than enough credentials in show business, educational TV, and game shows (he was a semi-regular on Pyramid in the 70s and 80s) to be a legitimate contender, but he seemed stiff and not very energetic in his hosting.
My assumption is that Mike Richards will name himself the host for next season. It's always lame when a manager looks to hire somebody for a high-profile position but eventually hires himself, because you know that's what he always wanted to do. The talent pool of game show hosts is much shallower than in the 1970s-80s, so in this case it might be a reasonable choice.

While Mike is the top boss on the Jeopardy! set, from what I have heard it will be Sony making the final decision.
Ranking the eight Jeopardy! guest-hosts so far (https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/ranking-jeopardy-guest-hosts/)
Mike Richards, Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen are Den of Geek's Top 3 choices of the eight guest-hosts so far, while Aaron Rodgers is No. 5. ALSO: Jeopardy! pledges to contribute to Brayden Smith's memorial fund as it honors the late five-time champion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgDPFqiMgxU).
icecream 05-22-2021, 12:37 AM I have really liked Buzzy Cohen and would be fine with him as a permanent host. He might be second only to Ken Jennings of the guest hosts so far, with Anderson Cooper and Mike Richards following in 3rd and 4th.
icecream 06-14-2021, 07:53 PM Savannah Guthrie is pretty to look at. But her hosting leaves a lot to be desired, especially after the really strong month of Buzzy Cohen and Mayim Bialik that just finished.
Coffeecup 06-17-2021, 11:32 AM Ice Cream, Awful to say, but I agree with you about Savannah. I don't watch much morning news/talk shows but I do feel she is out of place on this show. I do feel it is nice to give different people a chance and she may feel this isn't her cup of tea anyway. I do wonder if chosen would she have give up her morning news program? Whats the status on hosting two shows?
icecream 06-23-2021, 10:03 AM Danica McKellar was just mentioned on Jeopardy! in a Wonder Years clue. A few here thought she should have been one of the hosts considered. Danica sure would have been a better female pick than the really lackluster hosts from Today, Katie Couric and Savannah Guthrie.
icecream 07-21-2021, 07:44 PM Robin Roberts is a good host. It is too bad we didn't get two weeks of her instead of the awful ladies from Today, Dr. Oz, and Aaron Rodgers.
