Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet said they were told if they made Clarice for CBS, they could do whatever they want. “They have not given us one note,” says Kurtzman at the TV press tour, adding that they avoided mimicking the acclaimed drama Hannibal. After three different iterations of the Lecter story, Kurtzman felt it was time to focus on Clarice. “She hasn’t spoken in 30 years and we think it’s time for her to speak now,” says Kurtzman. “We didn’t want to tread territory that’s been done so well by so many others.”
