What could I possibly say about Caroll O'Connor's portrayal of Archie Bunker that hasn't been said all these years.
Archie Bunker was and will always be a commodity in American television. Although his bite was far less harmful than his bark,
the character of Archie Bunker was in a word remarkable. Somehow his mind twisted everything that he possibly could register only to spew it out. He was insulting, loud, abusive and abrubt. What made all of this tolerant, if at all, what that he was ignorant. The fact that he would mistakenly pronounce a word or Richard Nixon's middle name would make viewers take a step back before getting angry and say...oh, I get it know, he's just stupid. Although he wasn't as dumbfounded as a Chrissy Snow, he did mix many things up which made for great comedy.
Archie and Edith could never ever be portrayed by anyone else. Ever. The world lost a legend.
