What do you guys think MeTV's schedule for January 2021 will be like?

I hope HH does, but I hope MASH doesn't. They've had that ever since they went national in 2012-and always 2 episodes at 7 & 7:30; 6 nights a week!!!

Absolutely not! They’ve overstayed their welcome for way to long hogging the same spots. They definitely need to go. If they do stay at least move them to a different time and put something else at those times.

Oh, yes! We wouldn’t want to move precious M*A*S*H and Hogan’s Heroes. Even though they’ve hogged up the 6:00pm & 6:30pm and the 9:00pm & 9:30pm timeslots for almost over a decade and for over five years now.

What do you guys think MeTV's schedule for January 2021 will be like?

I'd like to see MASH and TAGS moved to the 8-10 AM slot with LITB moved to 10-11 AM
The Invaders and the Fugitive moved to the midnight slot
A feature slot like from 8-10 pm Fridays just to showcase short lived series that never ran long enough to gain syndication (shows like Grindl and Many Happy Returns) perhaps rotating which show is featured each week.

I can't get enough of MASH so hopefully they give it its own 23-hour block every day, with the remaining hour for Hogan's Heroes. :happyface

But honestly I've been watching MeTV for 8 and a half years and MASH has always been in the same slot it is today. I don't necessarily have anything against the show but as I've said in years past, a change-up is more than welcome for that hour.

Will Thelma Harper and company still be on the schedule? I don't like how Me sacrificed the double-episode Mama's slot for the Merry MeTV programming. Just two episodes have aired in the last several weeks, with the second ("Santa Mama") airing this past evening.

Well the Saturday Morning Cartoons will debut on January 2 so we shouldn’t have to wait until the end of the month the schedule should be released sometime next week or something like that.

Instead of Carol Burnett in the 10:00pm Sunday slot, why not the best of I Love Lucy? The Gilligan's Island three hr tour is back on Sunday afternoons replacing Happy Days and L&S rock around the clock programming block. Surprise they are keeping My Three Sons, Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction on the schedule.

There will still be over 8hrs of Western shows on Saturday. Glad to see they put Collector's Call on what is probably a short hiatus.

it really amazes me how Hogan's Heroes doesn't get the boot from the 10:00 P.M. time slot because that show is crummy. Mash and The Andy Griffith Show are really overplayed at this point too. I'd love to see some different sitcoms on there like Here's Lucy, The Bob Newhart Show, or Mr. Ed.

A couple of years ago, they use to have a Sunday lineup where they played a bunch of good sitcoms starting at 10:00 PM. I think they were The Honeymooners, Cheers,The Bob Newhart Show, and Taxi. Afterwards, there would be a ton of good cop shows early in the morning like Route 66, Mr. Luky, Banacek, 77 Sunset Strip and so forth.

They really need to get rid of those westerns and also improve their sitcom lineup because it's getting kind of stale.

Unfortunately, the weeknight primetime ratings are probably good enough where they don't have to rock the boat and program something different.

I think they should cut out Wagon Train during the weekdays and replace it with Dallas.

Still happy to finally see Looney Tunes back on Saturday morning where they belong. Hoping the cartoons will help capture a younger market for METV so we will see less medicare commercials in the future.

I wish they would get a little more aggressive about pushing the Decades channel into more local markets. Where I live right now, there is a test pattern channel between Laff, GetTV and CoziTV that would be a perfect landing spot for Decades.

It’s a tough call for MeTV. They are a TV classics network without regard to genre. I see it as a well-rounded schedule, but those only looking for one genre will always be disappointed when another is scheduled. I’ve made my love for the Quinn Martin shows overnight known, but I’m also happy to watch I Love Lucy and another “never gets old” show — Leave It To Beaver.

Interesting mention in this thread of the primetime soaps. Apparently, it is extremely costly to get music clearance for many of these shows. It’s tedious and episode-by-episode. With standalone episodic shows, they can just skip the episode for broadcast, but that’s very difficult for serialized dramas (by their very nature of having a story arc week to week). Consider that at that time many of these shows began using contemporary music over simple show-owned soundtracks. It’s a recipe that makes it difficult to clear shows like Knot’s Landing, Dynasty, etc.

TV Guy
12-13-2020, 05:28 AM
Dallas hardly used any music that would be difficult to clear. It’s more about the serialized nature of the shows. Serials don’t repeat as well (i.e. audience size) as standalone shows. So the nighttime soaps have never been as popular in reruns.

Amen, Charley. Dallas is one of my favorites, and Hagman was simply amazing. It’s a crime that he never won an Emmy for that role.

I was watching I Dream of Jeannie the other day and it was the one with the phony Tony, whom Jeannie gives “the death of a thousand itches.” Watching Hagman portray that made me realize what a gifted physical comedian he was, too.

I thought they’d be more changes but of course this is MeTV we’re talking about, the last time they had a schedule overhaul was Fall 2017 and that was over THREE years ago, and besides expectations were too high. Obviously Matlock, M*A*S*H, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, Green Acres, Hogan’s Heroes, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, etc. are doing incredibly well viewership and ratings wise since they’ve been staying in the same timeslot and on the same channel for YEARS now. It’s nice that they’ve cut down on the westerns with cartoons, which I’ll enjoy, but there’s still a good bit of westerns left on Saturdays and I don’t know why they sacrificed an episode of The Rifleman for Have Gun, Will Travel. God, I hate that western. And taking off I Love Lucy, Happy Days, and Laverne & Shirley ALREADY? They’ve hardly been on for a YEAR. And you can’t tell me that they weren’t pulling in ratings since that dreadful Gilligan’s Island’s Three Hour Tour is back. God, I swear that’s a punishment. Something told me that mess was coming back sooner or later. It was overplayed from Fall 2018 to Summer 2020 WAY TOO MUCH already like it’s about to be again. TRUST me, we DON’T need another dose. Don’t get me wrong, I like Gilligan’s Island but only in small doses not shoved in my face every Sunday for three hours straight for an eternity.

Well I presume happy days is still on weekdays and Gilligan's Island was moved oit of weekdays to make room for cartoons. If so, it seems reasonable even if I don't care for gilligan. Anyway Happy Days is cycling ng back to the boring early years soon now that season 11 is wrapping up with the 'summer burn off' episodes.

I’m surprised they haven’t done more with Laverne & Shirley, which was such a big hit in its day. Maybe the numbers don’t justify it.

The treatment of I Love Lucy is also kind of a head scratcher. That’s been such an evergreen in syndication over the years, and the best they can do with it is an morning slot?

I’m glad the cartoons are separated out - Popeye at 7:00, Tom and Jerry at 8:00, Looney Tunes at 9:00 - on Sat morning. I was worried they would be mixed together and I only really like Looney Tunes. The weekday morning show looks like it will be a mix.

I wonder if showing the restored color episodes of I Love Lucy on Sunday night, might help bring in a new audience?

Have you seen the Tex Avery MGM toons? I ranked them up there with Looney Tunes in humor and quality. The old b&w 30's Fleischer Popeye cartoons are also really good.

stevea
12-15-2020, 09:58 AM
Tex Avery also did some early Looney Tunes. He left Termite Terrace and probably went to MGM. I think the great Chuck Jones also eventually did some MGM toons, after Warners shut their animation unit in 1963. (This reminds me of the infamous later 60s contracted out Warner cartoons, such as the awful Rudy Larriva Road Runners. I sure hope MeTV doesn't bother with them...terrible animation, canned music...ugh!)

At some point MeTV or Decades got remastered copies of I Love Lucy, which look much better than the last time MeTV showed it. I do like the idea of them showing the colorized ones on Sunday evening. There are now enough of them to cover a few months.

I said on another post, I hope they don't use the horrible cartoons Warners contracted out to DePatie/Freleng, from 1964 to 1969 (after Warners shut their animation unit down). These included the wretched Rudy Larriva Road Runner cartoons. All the toons from this period included cheap animation and canned music.

(Correction: from 1967 to 1969 they reverted to Warner/Seven Arts. These were just as bad and cheap, and included the awful Speedy/Daffy Duck cartoons.)

They [U]REALLY need to give that show a rest. Either that or cut it back to one episode a week and move it to either late night or Sunday afternoons at..let's see...2 or 2:30 would be good

Popeye, Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes cartoons with live action hosts, kind of a throwback to the hosted cartoon shows of the 50s and 60s.

Yeah, there were quite a few Warner/Seven Arts toons where they matched Speedy and Daffy. Along with the DePatie/Freleng/Larriva Road Runners they made up the bulk of these mid-to late-sixties cartoons.

7AM-10AM Saved By The Bell
10AM-12pm The Flintstones
12pm-2pm The Brady Bunch
2pm-5pm Gilligan’s Island
5pm-6pm Mama’s Family

There are so many programs out there. Where Is My Three Sons & The Donna Reed Show & Lassie & I Love Lucy & Leave It To Beaver & Eight Is Enough and more!!! I even remember something called the Me TV Showcase. I may not always liked the showcase Every Week but there were Showcase I did enjoy. Come on Me TV please add to your programming. Actually, Fall 2017, with the addition of The Lucy Show, T.J. Hooker, Touched By An Angel, Hawaii Five-O, Cannon, The Facts Of Life, and more. As if that makes it any better. The fact that MeTV hasn’t had a shakeup in over three years defines the definition of repetition and tiresome.

I would love to see a shake up BUT I don’t see one Happenning.

They just added Happy Days and Toon In with me to the Weekday schedule recently.

They added a Cartoon block to Saturday Mornings.

They just recently added a 3 Hour Tour Marathon of Gilligan’s Island Sunday’s.

In Spring of 2021 they are adding Columbo 90 minute episodes with The Best Od Ed Sullivan on Sunday’s.

The one question I do have is for the longest time on Me TV Gomer Pyle always aired at 5AM Saturday Mornings but when Jim Nabors passed his show move to 9pm WeekNights and apparently very successful. My question is why they don’t shake things up and try Leave It To Beaver and other shows in other time slots?

Welcome space1999. Like others have mentioned it would be great to see some moving around. For some reason, they never run Green Acres in the mornings, they never run Beaver or My Three Sons later in the day. At least AntennaTV has played some of their morning & afternoon shows in later slots on weekends.

Apparently, seems like the MeTV schedule is heavily weighed on ratings. The reason why shows like Hogan's Heroes, MASH, Andy Griffith etc.. never ever leave the primetime lineup is because of that. I found a interesting podcast interview with MeTV's vice chairman Neal Sabin that addresses the history of MeTV and the current state of their tv shows.

Even if Metv can't bother to add new shows, the least they could do is shuffle the schedule around a bit. It gets a little stale with Andy Griffith and Hogan's Heroes especially.Perhaps you can move Hogan's Heroes to 7PM. Then you can take one episode of Andy Griffith and put it on at 6:30 right after The Flintstones. The 7:30PM would be a Mash episode. Then at 8PM, Andy Griffith would follow and then at 8:30, Mash. And then finally at 10:00, Hogan's Heroes would air first and then at 10:30 Happy Days .

I’m starting to doubt that M*A*S*H, The Andy Griffith Show, Hogan’s Heroes, and other shows are still getting high ratings after being overexposed and overstaying it’s welcome for half a decade and in M*A*S*H’s case for an entire decade. Something seems suspicious about that. At this point I think it’s just laziness and not wanting to fork over the money for new shows.

I agree with you 1000 percent!

Although currently Me TV’s ratings are beating cable network TVLAND. If Me TV would move Andy Griffith Show to example 10pm and than if it doesn’t work there Me TV will be scrambling to try to find a show to replace it. If they don’t find anything they might have to put an original there or a more Modern program that might bring ratings.

I believe some people are just now getting Me TV. To them

Monday’s-Friday’s
5pm-6pm Adam-12
6pm The Flintstones
6:30pm Happy Days
7pm-8pm MASH

10pm-11pm Hogans Hero’s
11pm Carol Burnett
11:30pm-12:30AM Perry Mason
12:30AM Twilight Zone
1AM-2AM Alfred Hitchcock Presents
2AM-3AM Mannix
3AM-4AM Cannon
4AM-5AM Barnaby Jones

Saturday’s
10AM-6pm Westerns
8pm-7AM Sci-Fi Saturday Nights

Sunday’s
7AM-10AM Saved By The Bell
10AM-11:30AM The Flintstones
11:30AM The Jetsons
12pm-2pm The Brady Bunch Brunch
2pm-5pm Gilligan’s Island 3 Hour Tour
5pm-6pm Mama’s Family
6pm-7pm The Love Boat
7pm-8pm MASH
8pm-10pm Columbo

This schedule to NEW Viewers of Me TV it will seem like a dream especially if those people have been relying on nick@niTe & TVLAND for there Classic Programming needs.

Hawaii Five-O was on ME TV 5 years ago in the 5p.m. slot. If a show does really great ratings #'s on MeTV, it usually gets locked into that time slot for a decade, that is unless the show is owned by Sony or Universal and is shared with Cozi or Get-TV.

Actually Hawaii Five-O is a bad example, the series was on METV a couple of years back in the slot now occupied by Adam 12, it didn't do well and it was cancelled.

WKRP was mentioned in an earlier post by someone, that show was on 9:30 weeknights, it was replaced by Green Acres. Again, it didn't do well that's why it was taken off.
