Congratulations to the Ringwalds! That's a long time to stay together.

...And a little funny that producers decided to end the Parkers' marriage back in 1980.

I always rated "Molly's Holiday" in my personal top 20 of the entire series. It gave a realistic and honest view of a divorce through the eyes of an 11/12 year old, unlike the original script. There was no happy ending with the parents getting back together or being best friends. It also showed what kind of actress Molly Ringwald could be back then being the feature in the primary plot.

As for which character's parents to choose for the divorced story, who else was there to choose? Blair's mother already has been through 3 divorces and Lisa's real parents were splitting up (thus the wiping of tears after her prep talk to Molly). Cindy's parents were already divorced and it sounded like she was raised by her father (a storyline that could have been used for a few shows). Sue Anne's parents were presented as being happily married and Sue Ann came from the traditional American family. Natalie was adopted and that was enough of a storyline. Tootie? Perhaps as we never seen her parents together. Nancy O.'s family background got Nancied. She was originally a scholarship student (before that went to Sue Ann), but how many teen girls from poorer backgrounds would have been so much into ballet and Barshinkov?

"Molly's Holiday" was one of my least favorite of S1, but I do agree that the final product is much more realistic than the script that had Angela and Mrs. Parker becoming friends.

Oh, Molly definitely needed her own script, for sure. But, for the record, the mention of Cindy's parents being split up occurs in this episode, so it wouldn't have been a problem for Cindy to have had this episode... I mean, it wouldn't have spoiled existing continuity.

I am, however, glad Molly had her own episode, and she does a good job (she's definitely less clunky without the "women's lib" dialog). I wish we had gotten to know Molly a little more in future seasons.

In "Rough Housing" Cindy mentions to Mrs. Garrett that it was her father was the one who taught her about the birds and the bees. That is why I gathered that her mother wasn't in her life much. We heard about her father in "Rough Housing", "Adoption", and "Molly's Holiday", but no mention of her mother.

Yeah, it's possible that her mom wasn't even around. But we never hear anything official on the status of the Websters' marriage until "Molly's Holiday".

Bob Ringwald was born in November 1940, so he's just turned 80. That's also something to celebrate!

According to Molly's Instagram timeline. Her parents got married a day after her father's 20th birthday.

Someone on Instagram said this on the picture of Molly's parents kissing one another. \\

"your mom is saying live long and prosper with her hands "

That sounds like a quote from Molly reading her body language book on "Like Mother, Like Daughter".

My least favourite episode in season 1 is 'Dieting' lol!

'Molly's holiday' on the other hand, showed us how much the girls cared about MOLLY, by interacting in her family's life and giving her tips about her parent's divorce: up until then, MOLLY didn't really have a best friend, she was sort of hanging with the gang with her camera/radio, and giving speech about woman's right etc... but this episode brings her closer to the 'Eastland' girls!

Yeah, it definitely is missing the sparks flying that are seen in "Running" and "Rough Housing".

Great points about Molly getting some attention from the other girls, in this episode. Sadly, it would be the only time ("Lay off, Margo" doesn't count!).

We do have a thread of the pairing up with the girls as to who was the best friend somewhere in this forum. It was Tootie/Natalie, Blair/SueAnn (best frienemies), and Molly/Cindy. The one left out was Nancy O., but since she was so into Roger, I don't think she really cared.

I don't quite see it that way: to me 'Adoption' was an episode about friendship, and how the girls support NATALIE when they find out she is an adopted child; BLAIR especially does everything in her power to help her out, and by doing so she gets a reprimand from MRS G (although in the end our 'feisty red haired' is on her side).
We also get to see more heated argument between SUE ANN vs BLAIR, when she tells her to mind her own business and leave NATALIE alone.
MOLLY also plays an important part, by telling NATALIE about a program she watched on the telly on how it took a woman most of her life to finally find her biological parents, that she was one of the lucky ones and that you have to be at least 18 years old to search for them.
And lastly, in the end we get a parcel from the WARNER'S industry delivered at 'Eastland' and MR BRADLEY almost has a fit when he sees what's in it lol!
So i hardly think that was a boring episode guys!!!!

Always good to get a different perspective, Valentina. And that "passion fashion" moment is very memorable and distinctive, for sure!

It's also true that the back-and-forth between Sue Ann and Blair is interesting. Also interesting is that, even though this is months before the Cast Purge, we still only get four perspectives on adoption: Sue Ann's, Blair's, Molly's, and Natalie's.

I think Adoption had Molly's second most lines in an episode of the season after Molly's Holiday, of course.

It truly is. They've been married their entire adult lives.
