View Full Version : Have a happy (Facts of Life) Thanksgiving!
RetroGuy2000 11-26-2020, 02:32 PM Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! :turkey:
And to celebrate, here is a special Eastland Thanksgiving song, set in November 1980, inspired by Mindy's real-life comment at the first November 1980 table read, "Where'd everybody go?":
(Sung to the tune of "Where is Mr. Turkey?")
"Where is everybody?"
Where is Miss Mahoney?
I thought she's in the lab
I guess she's in the classroom
Her hair is looking drab
Sobbing, sobbing, sobbing
I can hear her say,
"My role on this show's cancelled
Before Thanksgiving Day!"
Where is Mr. Bradley?
I really do not know
I hear he's just been fired
And now he's off the show
Calling to his agent
He says he's been made 'free'
So now he'll have to star in
A film called S.O.B.!
Where are all the Lost Girls?
Where did the students go?
Molly, Cindy, Sue Ann,
And Nance replaced by Jo
Locked down in the basement
They'll have their dinner there
They'll be allowed back upstairs
If they don't bother Blair.
And now the show has Howard
A chef who's very tall
His role won't last much longer
Not much past early Fall
Working in the kitchen
But rarely heard or seen
It won't take long for Howard
To exit Eastland's scene
So very many people
Were written off the show
In order to expand roles
Of Nat, Tootie, and Jo
And keep the giant line count
For Lisa Whelchel's Blair
With Warren Littlefield counting
They didn't stand a prayer!
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

You 're absolutely right Retro: we don't celebrate Thanksgiving at all in the UK so i didn't have any turkey lol! (I am kind of vegetarian though, so i hardly eat any meat anyway)

I applaud anyone who can go veggie (or even kind of veggie). My body, however, requires a little more protein, so I need some meat.
My least favorite kind of meat is ham.

Haha I still have turkey, but not alot. Sometimes I have ham.

Oh wow we're opposites, I love ham!

I like pate! Sausage is good but I'm more of a bacon guy.

Pate isn't a very common Thanksgiving dish. I do like sausage, but, like Lorimar, I'm more of a bacon guy.
valentina warner 11-29-2020, 06:14 PM You guys would be in heaven in the UK: British people love bacon! (but i guess so do Americans, or?)

Lol yep Americans are big on bacon. They even started using it for desserts now.

'80sSitcoms 12-01-2020, 06:59 PM I've converted to turkey bacon!
🦃🥓
And Retro I love that you wrote a new traditional Thanksgiving carol, but I'm afraid I have never heard of this "Where is Mr. Turkey?" I'll have to go listen to a recording of it on YouTube first and then I'll be able to appreciate the "Facts"-ing of it!

Yeah, unfortunately, Thanksgiving is just not known for its carols. This version (https://www.facebook.com/olphtoledo.org/videos/278631456404370/) isn't too different than the version I learned as a kid, although they repeat the line "I guess he's in the baryard", which we never did.
The version I learned had these lyrics:
Where is Mr. Turkey?
I thought he was at play
I guess he's in the barnyard
Behind a stack of hay
"Gobble, gobble, gobble,"
I can hear him say,
"I'm not coming out 'till after
Thanksgiving Day!"
Where is Mr. Turkey?
I thought he was with you
I guess he's in the barnyard
Let's make him into stew!
...Etc.

Jeez, who wrote that song?? Lock, Shock, and Barrell??
RUN, Mr. Turkey, RUN!!! (faster than that Sue Ann!!)

'80sSitcoms 12-02-2020, 07:44 PM I mean, it really does sound like some kind of creepy "Children of the Corn" thing or something---innocent-looking children with child voices singing in unison, but heartless and out to off a turkey and eat him!
(not just "a turkey" or "the turkey", but specifically "Mr. Turkey"---they know this one specifically by name and have it in for him on a whim! YIKES!!)
#horrorholidays

That's why it had to be "Facts"-ified!
