The producers wisely decided to move the final week past the holidays, originally Alex Trebek's final episode would have aired on Christmas. Now the weeks of December 20 and 27 are repeats, with the final new week January 4-January 8. Then Ken Jennings will guest host on January 11.

My mom told me about this and she told me that Jeopardy is trying out guest hosts to see who will be a perfect replacement for Alex Trebek and that's why Ken Jennings will guest host on January 11th. I also have heard that Levar Burton has been in the running to replace Alex but how do you think Levar Burton will do hosting Jeopardy?

Levar Burton, I haven't heard his name in quite a while. He could do very well. He is about age 63 so could have 20 years of hosting.

I really don't understand this whole thing of airing episodes that are the "best of" Alex Trebek. I mean of course I've always liked Alex but his hosting style never changed much. He was always polite, but at the beginning of Jeopardy he was polite and I'd say stiffly formal with the contestants. And then gradually over the years he became more relaxed and friendly with them and would often joke with them showing his sense of humor. I've wondered why that is but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Trebek's final Jeopardy! episode airs on January 8th. Some of the contestants noticed that the age-old rhythms were there during those final tapings, but with a lot of coronavirus precautions. “You never take your mask off except at the lectern," said contestant Nizar Abdalla. "There was no studio audience except for the pool of contestants. There were even rules about who in the crew could go backstage to talk to Alex.” Another contestant, Andrew Chaiken, noted that a lot of contestants who didn't have to fly in. “There seemed to be an unusually high number of Californians,” Chaiken said. “I think there was a preference to go with people who could drive to the studio.”

San Francisco State University professor Jim Gilligan spent 30 years trying to become a contestant on Jeopardy! Gilligan got to fulfill his dream on Oct. 27, less than two weeks before Trebek's death from pancreatic cancer. “It’s definitely a bittersweet moment,” says Gilligan, who appears on Friday's episode. "'Hey, I finally achieved one of my life’s dreams, I’m going to be on Jeopardy!, and I met Alex Trebek.’ But it was the last episode he ever taped in his life.” Gilligan adds: “It was pretty clear that he was not at 100%. He still did a great job, but he was walking a little bit more slowly. It looked like he was in pain a little bit. But if you watch the show, you’ll never be able to tell.”
