Since I'm back ringing the bell for The Salvation Army, I thought of having a story about a bell ringer who is only seen after Thanksgiving and by Christmas...he's gone.

He never talks about the good deeds since boasting means nothing, but he lets people know that kindness goes a long way.

Any ideas or is that good enough?

Depends on how long you want your story to be, but it seems like an interesting idea. Hearing the bell ringing sound during the holidays made things more festive, and I thought the malls made a mistake by banning you guys from them.

Good idea. Tell about all the different people the bell ringer has met. Why he became a bell ringer. Seeing the children's faces as they give.

I too miss hearing the bell ringers. Sad the some stores have stopped them.

I don't want it to be long. He does his work semi-quietly and on Christmas, he says "I'm going to help the ones that don't get gifts for Christmas. Santa is busy now but I check on the ones who have nothing".

I think writing a Christmas story is a wonderful idea and if you ever get it written you could submit it to a publishing company and you can be paid a lot of money for it. Here is a Christmas story idea you could try. It is a story set in Victorian England and features a little English boy trying to get into the Christmas spirit but doesn't seem to show Christmas spirit because the boy's mother has fallen ill and his grandmother spends most of her time taking care of the boy's mother and all that the boy wishes for is that he could have a joyful Christmas and for his mother to get well so that he can be happy again. So while doing errands for his mother with his grandmother the boy runs into a bell ringer and when they first meet the boy tells the bell ringer all that has happened and he wishes that everything would be normal for Christmas and when they say goodbye the bell ringer gives the boy his bell and says "if you ever need my help just give the bell a ring and i'll be right there". So the night before Christmas it happens that the boy's mother becomes very sick and he cries for help so he tries to summon for a doctor but the doctor isn't there so he grabs his bell and rings it and the bell ringer comes and tries his best to cure the boy's mother until a miracle happens when the boy's mother suddenly is smiling and laughing and the boy thanks the bell ringer but he is nowhere to be seen so the boy goes to bed and wakes up on Christmas to find a note that says "Because of your kindness you have done a great deed" and the note is signed Father Christmas and the bell was a gift for the boy. And the title of the story would be called The Miracle Bell. And believe me The Miracle Bell would be a hit Christmas book for children because of it's kind message
Hope you like this idea and good luck with your story

Darn...beat to the punch! I'll see if these books are free then I'll give you my results.

I also have a story based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and it's called Modern Christmas Carol. This time, it's about a guy who lost The Christmas Spirit since he has no life outside of work...he even wants to work on Christmas Day!
