Bonniegirl 11-18-2020, 02:37 PM ;)Just wondering if Fred and Ethel should have had children, what do you think? Being their older age than the Ricardos , not a young child. But I think it would have been cool had there been a grown child not living with them anymore! Maybe a recurring character or something ! :) Chocolate Moose 11-19-2020, 12:18 PM never thought about that. would've been interesting! icecream 11-19-2020, 02:32 PM That is not needed here. I Love Lucy was perfect as is, a child even grown for Fred and Ethel just would have been strange. GentlemanJim 11-19-2020, 03:18 PM ;) Being their older age than the Ricardos , not a young child. I'm thinking it would have to be something that could play off the Ricardos, at least occasionally. Bonniegirl 11-19-2020, 03:23 PM What kind of personality would you give an adult Mertz child? A young adult, not sure what profession? In the 1950's she's either a housewife or a soon to be housewife, no real career goals. ;) I'm thinking someone who would team up with Ethel and put dear old Dad Fred in his place when he insults Ethel. Well in a funny, good natured way, have the girl have Ethel's good looks and Fred's sense of humor / personality ! ;):D GentlemanJim 11-19-2020, 03:56 PM How about an olive skinned mailman with thick black wavy hair, and an unusual aptitude for music? Nah ! GentlemanJim 11-19-2020, 04:07 PM Who, at the tender age of 16 months, belted out an 11 minute rendition of Babaloo on the side of his crib. PracTz 11-21-2020, 02:07 PM I've thought about it and. ..it's truly for the best that the Mertzes stayed childless since not only were the able to bring zero experience to the clueless Ricardos re how to raise Little Ricky, but also they more or less considered the Ricardos their de facto grown kids. Then, too, it somewhat made it more intriguing re how and WHY they stayed together despite constantly battling and putting each other down because it would have been more 'expected' for the older couple to have done so had their been a child tying them together but since there were no kids, then it added to the 'why were these two still together?' theme! Of course, on the 'Sonny and Cher' shows, those two constantly put each other down yet they supposedly showed the audience that underneath it all they loved each other by bringing their young child then called Chastity onstage with them to close their shows but they wound up splitting, getting separate shows, then doing a season together again doing put downs but still stayed split (and, in Cher's case, remarried to another man whose baby boy she brought on their Christmas episode). |
