View Full Version : Saved by the Bell reboot is open to Dustin Diamond reviving his Screech role
https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/saved-by-the-bell-revival-boss-on-dustin-diamond-cameo/
“We talk about Screech’s character and there are little Easter eggs throughout the show of what he’s doing now, and you can find some if you look for them,” showrunner Tracey Wigfield tells The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcasts. “And this season, he wasn’t tied to any of the new characters or anything. But that’s not to say it’s not open for the future, not knowing what stories will be or anything for a cameo maybe.”
Lark Voorhies did a radio interview recently and hinted that Dustin was holding out for more money.
“He wants to be paid and respected, we would [like] for him to come back on set. He’s going through his growing pains…he can get back on track. He’s going through his adult issues and all of this but I am sure he’ll be back — granted the perfect contract for him, I’m sure he would be back.”
Before his death, Dustin Diamond was in talks to reprise Screech on Peacock's Saved by the Bell reboot (https://people.com/tv/dustin-diamond-hoped-to-appear-in-season-2-of-saved-by-the-bell-reboot-before-his-death/)
"He was upset that he wasn't asked to be a part of the reboot, but he talked to one of the executive producers about possibly coming to appear on the second season and he was happy about that," the actor's longtime manager, Roger Paul, tells People. Meanwhile, Mark-Paul Gosselaar discussed Diamond's death with Tamron Hall today (https://tvline.com/2021/02/01/dustin-diamond-dead-saved-by-the-bell-screech-mark-paul-gosselaar-statement/), saying: "It’s always tough when someone passes away. I think it’s even more so when the individual is someone you know, and the age of Dustin. It was only a few weeks ago that we heard about his diagnosis, and for it to happen so quickly is shocking." Gosselaar said the Saved by the Bell cast plans to get together to remember Diamond.

irehtman 05-01-2021, 06:23 PM We already know that Screech Powers is related to the real-life abused antisemitism of deceased original SBTB creator Sam Bobrick's. Even if Diamond is already dead officially, I wouldn't kill off that Screech character, but rather than including, I would reboot that character in a different way, unlike Bobrick, in a separate sitcom, which is a non-discriminative type.
I just hope that his passing gets the acknowledgement on the show that it deserves.
God bless you and his family always!!!

Mario Lopez: Saved by the Bell is planning "something special" to honor Dustin Diamond (https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/mario-lopez-dustin-diamond-tribute-saved-by-the-bell-reboot-202249555.html)
"We're going to have our first table read in about a week or so, but we are planning (something) special" to honor the late Diamond, says Lopez. "We're ready to start up again in June and I will be in all those episodes."

Dustin's gone, but his Screech role may not be gone yet because:
1.) We need to know if Tracey Wigfield is against autistic characters, or not against, first of all.
2.) If not against, then that Screech character needs to rebooted and revived by a different new actor, which won't be connected to Sam Bobrick this time, in a different sitcom project, whose setting is not in either Bayside or Valley High School settings.
Saved by the Bell revival pays tribute to Dustin Diamond and Screech in the Season 2 premiere (https://www.etonline.com/how-saved-by-the-bell-pays-tribute-to-dustin-diamond-in-the-season-2-premiere-exclusive-175574)
The Season 2 opener featured Elizabeth Berkley Lauren's Jessie Spano, Mario Lopez's A.C. Slater, Mark-Paul Gosselaar's Zack Morris, Tiffani Thiessen's Kelly Kapowski and Lark Voorhies' Lisa Turtle gathered around their usual booth at The Max, where they recalled their favorite Screech memories (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTjQcC_mhvg). Diamond died in February of lung cancer at age 44. “He was so funny,” Jessie says before Zack leads a group toast by adding, “To Screech.” The episode then played a montage of Screech's most memorable moments. They may need to reboot his Screech character, played by a different new actor, which has no connection to both Bobrick and Wigfield version, and put in a different spin-off safely.
JO Sweet Heart 04-26-2022, 05:50 PM ^^^ If another person were to fill the role, I wouldn't be surprised if the show were to end up in the toilet. Very few people if any would praise such a decision. I most definitely would not be a member of that group. Another person playing the character, to me, would be a complete and total disrespect towards the memory of Dustin Diamond.
God bless you and his family always!!!

The show won't end up in the toilet since it's no longer connected to that deceased creator Bobrick. Another person playing the character will be safely respectable solution towards the memory of Dustin Diamond, since Bobrick died first, JO Sweet Heart, TBH, IMO.
JO Sweet Heart 04-27-2022, 08:59 AM ^^^ Most of the viewership is most likely those who grew up with the original show. I could be wrong, but I can't see a lot of people being all that happy about another person playing the character. I can't see his former cast members liking it all that much either. Even though there was the rough patch between them and him at one point, with him being gone, I believe that they would still have enough respect for him to where they wouldn't even make an effort to find another person to fill his shoes.
God bless you and them always!!!

Not everyone will be happy because that another person playing character will be in more safer position to play Screech than Diamond, since Bobrick already dead first, as I told you moment ago. Besides, his former cast members are no longer connected to both Diamond and his characters and they don't have to like it along the way. But even if no matter how rough that patch is, that person will fill his shoes in a safer position than Diamond, I repeat, and finally we did already found that anti-semitic abuse scandal incident revealed in the original SBTB crewmember before both Diamond and Bobrick died, JO Sweet Heart.

Not yet, rusty spike, we still haven't finished dealing with this anti-semitism, which all started with anti-semitic abuse on both former deceased SBTB creator Sam Bobrick and former deceased actor Dustin Diamond, back when they both were each alive.
Also, there's a triangular relationship connected between Bobrick, Diamond and Screech altogether. First of all, we already know that both Dustin and Screech are no longer with these anymore:
* Mark as Zack.
* Mario as Slater.
* Tiffani as Kelly.
* Elizabeth as Jessie.
* Lark as Lisa.
* Dennis as Belding.
Then, right now, we should know that means Bobrick is also no longer with these similar anymore at the same time:
* Mark as Zack.
* Mario as Slater.
* Tiffani as Kelly.
* Elizabeth as Jessie.
* Lark as Lisa.
* Dennis as Belding.
As a matter of fact, we may need a new spin-off producer, who's neither an abused discriminative on Screech character nor related to Wigfield, to create a spin-off sitcom without either a single abused discriminative acting nor long-airing problems, in the meantime.
So, please hold that thread-closing mentioning yet until we remind you the signal.

James28 09-14-2023, 10:56 PM I know this is fiction, but (thanks to the manner of how the Screech character died never being revealed) how is it possible for somebody to die immediately after getting off the International Space Station (not including a car accident, etc.)?

EccentricGenius 09-15-2023, 09:23 PM It's a low down dirty crying shame Dustin "Screech" Diamond bought the farm before he was able to make a special guest appearance in Peacock's now-canceled SBTB reboot...at least his former castmates paid tribute to Dustin in a subsequent episode of the reboot as well as express their utmost condolences to him on social media upon learning of his untimely and unfortunate death. May he continue to rest in peace.

I enthusiastically concur, rusty spike. Now that Dustin "Screech" Diamond is long gone and obviously unable to make a special guest appearance or even a cameo in the now-canceled SBTB reboot, this thread is completely unnecessary and no longer relevant. May he continue to rest in peace.
And while I'm still on my soapbox, I honestly believe Peacock abruptly s**tcanned the SBTB reboot last year much to the surprise of both the cast and crew not so much due to declining viewership but (partly) because of Dustin's unexpected and unfortunate death, despite garnering critical acclaim as well as a small but loyal following. I could be wrong, though, and I probably am.

Actress Samantha Esteban, who played Maria Lopez, was also involved paying tribute to him, plus expressing her utmost condolences to him in social media too. Although. Samantha in real life is two years younger than Dustin that you all should know.

But you did miss the part about that the reboot crew was still too dangerously connected to antisemitism abuses which led to this cancelled reboot. Plus you didn’t noticed that deceased SBTB creator Sam Bobrick was abused by antisemitics during his real-life high school years back when he’s alive.

And what, pray tell, did antisemitism have to do with the cancellation of Peacock's SBTB reboot last year? I was simply commenting on the fact that this particular thread is no longer relevant and completely unnecessary, considering that Dustin "Screech" Diamond has been deceased for over two years and was obviously unable to make a special guest appearance or even a quick cameo in the aforementioned reboot in any shape or form.
Although Dustin and SBTB creator Sam Bobrick were both Jewish, antisemitism had absolutely nothing to do with neither of their respective deaths whatsoever. Granted, Dustin was ridiculed and ostracized by most of the public during the final two decades of his life due to his erratic and ridiculous behavior as well as his embarrassing antics, but that had nothing to do with his upbringing or religion.

I'm afraid antisemitism was also criticized as a part of the reboot's scandal that led to its additional cancellation, besides Diamond's death. Antisemitisms appraise also lots of other dangerous multi-discriminative supremacies while discriminating Jews at the same time. It would have to do with his upbringing and religion if both antisemitism and Bobrick issues were also mentioned carefully one step at a time back when both Bobrick and Diamond were back alive each. That would have cut down the ridiculing and ostracizing power of the public on his both on both erratic and ridiculous behaviors and embarrassing antics along the way, EccentricGenius.
