Did they even mention Michael in My Son The Lover? It’s sort of interesting that Jimmie Walker wasn’t in the very last episode of Good Times with James. And you forgot that neither Florida or James appeared in the Season 3 episode J.J. In Trouble.

OR

Michael got “sent in his room” like he always does when the family has to TCB and pulled a FM Judy on the family that episode

J.J. was pretty much the only standout character that whole Season 5 James was gone Florida married Carl and relocated to Arizona although I don’t consider her a standout character and Wilona…let’s just say was “matured” for Penny lol

I get what ya saying, but I don’t get what ya saying. Although Penny was a unnecessary addition, even without Penny, Season 5 of Good Times still wouldn’t have been too good without Esther Rolle. She was the only one who carried the show after John Amos got fired and left. By the time she came back in Season 6, it was a little too late to save the show. The damage was already done. The only way Season 5 would’ve been good without Penny and without Florida was if J.J.’s friends and Mrs. Bookman appeared more.

Most of Thelma’s boyfriends were either random guys or jerks. Larry was okay but I HATED the addition of Keith. Damn, he was annoying with all his imitations and impersonations. He wasn’t bad at them but he them ALL THE TIME. Thelma should’ve finished or went to college instead of wasting her time and life with Keith. She probably only dated him for about a week and got engaged and later married to him lol Thelma did not need a boyfriend. Don’t give Michael a girlfriend either. I agree with you when you say they needed to give J.J. a girlfriend though. And someone attractive for a change lol the only attractive woman and girls dated was Diana, Clarissa, Henrietta, Debbi Morgan, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Jo Ann I guess. I also disagree when you say eliminate Wilona. Next to J.J., she was the only comedic relief for the show at the time. They could’ve kept her like she was from Seasons 1-4 and have her check on the gang and stuff. Feature J.J.’s friends more, give J.J. a girlfriend, and feature Mrs. Bookman more.

Not only was Florida not around but NONE of the Evanses even hinted at worrying about 'What will Mama say when she finds out about Keith's boozing and slapping Thelma around and will he survive Mama evicting Keith from this place with her name on the lease- out the 12th story window?!'

I kind of get that the writers may have wanted to see if Thelma might be able to 'handle' the whole 'unemployed, increasingly boozing husband slapping her' deal on her own but it was a bit much none of them brought up what FLORIDA's reactions might have been had she BEEN there!

Yep I noticed that as well once Esther Rolle returned and Ben Powers was added there was no room for Penny. At least when we DID see Penny, she was more likeable and mature than she was in Season 5, like an average preteen. The chasing J.J. routine got tiring and stale after a while Penny was too old for that sh*t I could see a five or a six or a seven year old having a “crush” on J.J. but not no damn ten or eleven year old.

If I was a female and had a crush on a grown man when I was 11 years old, my mama would’ve hit me with the broomstick SO hard. But anyways, yeah Penny and Michael were closer in age they were around the same age bracket Michael was about fourteen fifteen sixteen so it made more sense for Penny to have a crush on Michael instead why would Penny want to have a crush on a grown man who was childish and immature and goofy and “funny” at that?
