In the very first episode to air, Lucy and Ethel want to go to the Copa Cabana for the Mertzes' wedding anniversary. Meanwhile Fred & Ricky want to go to the fights.

Lucy & Ethel pretend that they can get dates. This concerns Ricky & Fred and they talk about getting dates for themselves to go to the Copa to keep an eye on Lucy & Ethel.

If they were going to all that trouble to go to the nightclub to keep an eye on their wives, why didn't they simply give in and decide to go to the nightclub for Fred & Ethel's anniversary in the first place???
