The creator of zombie comedy drama Santa Clarita Diet says he'd love to make another season to give fans closure after the popular series was cancelled by Netflix last year.

In an exclusive interview with LADbible, Victor Fresco was asked whether he'd like to finish the series and give fans closure to the Hammond family journey.

He said: "That's something I think we all would want to do if everyone was available. Emotionally, everyone on the show would love to do some kind of closure.

"We thought it would be fun to do a season with Joel and Sheila in the same boat - what that would look like. I feel like this would be better for us and better for our fans too."

Fresco already has ideas of where he'd take the show if it were to continue:

He said: "We had Abby and Eric's relationship which was turning into something interesting at the end of the series. To see Abby now as a hunter of the undead since both her parents are now undead."

Season three ended on a huge cliffhanger as Sheila bit Joel, seemingly to save her husband's life. When he awoke, the screen cut to black. Fresco had some interesting plans for Timothy Olyphant's newly undead character.

He explained: "Joel could have a different attitude [to Sheila], we would want him to be a little bit different in how he approaches things. It will be interesting to see him with that unleashed and what he turns into. So not just who he kills and how he kills but what kind of person he becomes."

While Drew Barrymore's character survives on the fresh taste of human flesh, in real life the actor follows a strict vegan diet.

Fresco explained how the effects team showed key attention to detail in making the 'body parts' look realistic.

He said: "They used gelo molds for organs; that can be a kidney or a liver. And then they use a gummy bear material that had to stretch out like tendons.

"They also crushed beet paste that looked like it could be flesh. Different things depending on what she was eating at the time."

All three seasons of Santa Clarita Diet are available to watch on Netflix for your binge watching pleasure.
