So far this season, Saturday Night Live has booked older rock acts Jack White (as a last-minute replacement for country singer Morgan Wallen), The Strokes and, this weekend, The Foo Fighters. Why couldn't SNL book younger acts like Ariana Grande or Sam Smith? Sources tell Variety that rock acts are easier to prep for and that they may be more appealing during these hectic times. “Jack White, the Strokes and the Foo Fighters turn up, plug in and play — there’s maybe an hour or two of prep," said one source. "For Ariana or even a Sam Smith, there’s going to be hair and makeup and maybe some big concept to execute — that’s hours of prep and a lot more people involved, and those big productions are much harder to pull off in a pandemic.”

When it comes to rock music and rock groups Saturday Night Live is always best known to book older rock stars and groups mainly because they have a new cd to promote or just perform singles from their current album. But I agree that young singers and newer music groups should be performing on Saturday Night Live instead of older rock groups like Foo Fighters REM No Doubt Coldplay and many other rock groups. But the actual main reason why Saturday Night Live books rock singers and rap artists like 50 Cent and Missy Elliott is simply to give the show a ratings boost and to get the singers and groups more money. But if SNL could give singers like Lorde and Billie Ellish and even country singers and country groups a chance to perform it would give them even more huge ratings in TV
