In all honesty, James was threatening to spank Willona like his CHILD, which was weird since she was not a child and she wasn't his child(Although in the 1970's Parents were allowed to spank kids who weren't their kids, and then the actual parents spanked the kids too. Nowadays, Parents would sue the other Parents for spanking their kids and the other Parents would be on jail for spanking kids who are not their own. In fact, Parents are no longer legally allowed to spank their OWN Kids anymore or they can be jailed for Child Abuse.)

I kinda think James didn't like Wilona hanging around that much to begin with and when he was angry, he didn't want someone defusing the situation with jokes, especially someone who wasn't part of the Evans family.
