Looks weird today but back then $5 had the buying power of $26. So that was a lot for a 11 year old boy

"Thelma I just got $5.00!!!!:lol::lol:

OH Nuts!

And they were so poor, so that made the $5 an even bigger deal!

Yep! I remember as a kid 5 dollars was a lot ! Getting birthday cards from relatives with money in it, some put 1 dollar, some put 2, that was usual, and even that was cool back than .But I remember sometimes getting a 5 dollar bill and it was like I hit the lottery !:D

Me too. The following show my age:

I remember when Burger King Whoppers were 39 cents, French fries 15 cents, gasoline 23 cents a gallon, movies for kids 35 cents, local bus fare 25 cents.

On this very website, a GT Fan said that $5 in 1974 could buy you a Chinese Meal and a Movie Ticket plus popcorn and a drink and you would still have sone change left! :eek::crazy::happyface

I definitely remember thinking that if I had four dollars in pennies in my Mickey Mouse bank, I was rich! :lol:

:) Nowadays, a Movie Ticket, Popcorn, drink, and a Chinese Meal would be roughly $18 for IMAX night, roughly $9 for large Popcorn, roughly $7 for large Coke, roughly $13 for Chinese Meal. So, roughly $47 for what cost less than $5 in 1974!:eek::crazy:
